Slow-Mo Video: This Is What Happens When You Microwave a Light Bulb and a Watermelon

Who wouldn’t want to watch a slow-mo video of what happens to things like a light bulb, bar of soap, lime when you microwave them for a long enough time period? The answer: everybody.

Moes Southwest Grill Ad Shows Microwave Explosions in Slow Mo

Believe it or not, this is what happens when you microwave a champagne bottle.

This is probably what the marketing team from Moe’s Southwest Grill — a fast-food Tex-Mex chain — thought when coming up with their new ad.

Released just this week on YouTube, the video already has more than 70,000 views. Check out all the slow-mo glory:

I think if you watch the aluminum foil being microwaved, right at :34 you can see a small blue glowing ball come up off of the arcing foil. Possibly a small little bit of Ball Lightning produced right there due to the arcing. Hard to say due to the super slo mo, but maybe. I’ve seen that type of thing before when carbon points powered by banks and banks of wet cells are brought together. cool.

Worked with a guy who spent 20 years in the airforce. I don’t know if he was yanking my chain, but here’s a short simple version of a story he told me.
Maitenance crew turns off the radar and climbs up in the dome to service it. Another guy doesn’t get the memo, turns the radar on, maitenance crew goes pop.

A carpenter who worked on our home told me a similar story of something like that happening when he was in the military. Not sure if it was radar or really strong radio waves, but the result was similar.

Slow news day? Who cares! It is called entertainment, always a nice interlude amidst the “head exploding” stories. Why waste time telling everyone that you actually took the energy to reply to a story you don’t care about?

How many more clowns will post “slow news day” or “I don’t care”?

Microwaves do ruin everything, including your health, even if you’re not eating tv dinners. Why the hell would you want to heat your food with radiation?

What do you think you’re heating it with in an oven genius? Infra red (oven heat) is radiation as sure as microwaves are. Only the frequency is different. Microwaves are not radioactive. They simply get the atoms real excited.

The colloquial “nuke it” for heating in microwave is not literal. The “nuked” food won’t become glowing green in dark. It is quite excited (though rarely exciting).

Microwave ovens use microwave (tiny wavelength) radio frequency bounced back and forth very quickly that produces friction inside the object you are cooking thus heating it. Things cooked in a microwave are heated from the middle-outward because the clash of microwaves occurs in the center of the oven. 35 years of being time tested (and mother approved) has made microwave ovens a safe alternative to cooking over campfires (NOT mother approved)

So go ahead, don’t be afraid. Heat yourself up a big bowl of chili with onions and cheddar cheese and see for yourself today!

Good topic, alot better than the one headlined here. The posters of the Blaze should start hijacking the stories. Take stupid stories, like this one and instead of dozens of arcain comments, we interject a subject that the MSN is ignoring.

On your topic, I think that the administration ignoring this could come back to bite him, if the media decided to do thier job and start investigating wrong doing no matter where they find it.

Beck may be waiting to see how the ruling comes out. This is not new news, it’s actually been around since Obama first campaigned, but it’s a first in the courts. Frankly, I’m appalled that our vetting process is so blatantly lacking. Clearly the man is a fraud unto himself & the American public. How will the DNC overcome this egg-on-face debacle, I wonder. A fraudulent birth certificate & Social Security number… Makes one want to puke.

I’ve microwaved a few things in my day, and I must say that the most dangerous thing I’ve ever microwaved was a glass of water. If you have a glass that’s smooth enough on the inside, you can microwave it up to temperatures far exceeding the boiling point without it boiling. Then one little disturbance, and the water will vaporize with explosive force. Very dangerous.

“Microwave ovens are foebidden in many countries”

False myth. The USSR is said to have banned them for a short time, but no country today has a blanket ban on microwave ovens (I’m sure some countries likely have regulations, and smaller towns or cities might have ordinances). Also, the Soviets did so due to supposed damage to those nearby and exposed to the radiation, not for destroying nutrients in food.
