Smashed Windows, Graffiti, Splattered Paint: Massive Clean Up Effort in London After Night of Violent Mayhem

Smashed Windows, Graffiti, Splattered Paint: Massive Clean Up Effort in London After Night of Violent Mayhem

A night of mayhem descended on the streets of London yesterday, after hundreds of anarchists and anti-capitalists stormed the streets, overtaking Trafalgar square. Some of the protesters even threw missiles from the square.

Now, a massive clean up effort is underway.

Yesterday, after paint and flares were thrown at buildings, after windows were smashed, and after anti-government messages were scribbled all over the pavement and famous icons, the city was left in disarray this morning.

Sky News reports on the daunting clean-up effort:

The windows and doors of banks were smashed and paint was daubed in the walls.

Anarchist symbols and anti-Government messages were also scrawled on the pavement.

By early on Sunday graffiti was being jet-washed from the front of the luxury food store Fortnum and Mason, where protestors had broken in and staged a demonstration.

Nearly all of the windows were smashed at the Ritz Hotel and the famous sign at the front was splattered in yellow paint. Staff were helping to clean windows and scrub floors.

The Daily Mail reports that several banks were also vandalized:

Paint, fireworks and flares were thrown at buildings, while the outnumbered police were attacked with large pieces of wood.

Branches of HSBC, RBS, Santander and Topshop were among those to have their windows smashed.

The police often had to step aside as the activists continued their destruction late into the evening.

    Very unfortunate that anarchists took the opportunity and did damage, but for the most part the demonstration was peaceful, and the fact that people demonstrated against unjust governmental measures is a wonderful example of how democracy works.

      Out of half a million people, a couple of hundred were violent idiots. That’s 0.04%. 99.96% were peaceful, law-abiding citizens making their voice heard in protest at a minority government running roughshod over the poorest in society while refusing to close loopholes that allow the richest and corporations to avoid paying the taxes they owe to the people who helped put them into their privileged position.

    The pictures and story seems like the classic post-nuclear movies of the 70s.

    I’m so grateful to live where I live, in relative solitude and self-dependence. Living in Mayberry, NC during the era of the 60′swe enjoy a small town, unlocked doors, and the most excitement here lately is someone’s pig that started terrorizing the neighboring woods and rooting up the pastures.

    From the Mt. Airy news “PILOT MOUNTAIN – They mystery of a pig on the loose in Pilot Mountain has finally come to a conclusion.

    The pig in question was shot and killed by an area resident.

    According to Pilot Mountain Police Chief Darryl Bottoms, the pig was killed on Monday by an Academy Street resident, who has “processed” the pig.

    The animal had been on the loose in the Pilot Mountain area for about five weeks and had been tearing up yards in the community.

      LOL! A few months ago here in Mid-Missouri there was a run-away goat. After three weeks of near misses he was apprehended. He was incarcerated at the local Humane Society. When it was about time for the goat to be euthanized a local radio station held a fund raiser, bailed him out and he is living happily (fenced in) on a local farm.

    Anarchists…..These people have been around since the demonstrations at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in the 60′s. They show up at all the World Government meeting and now riot all over the world with union thugs. They have uniforms, and mask their face, destroy property and injure police and cause terror in cities. Why is there no universal law that will show their faces to the world, to identify them, to keep them in jail somewhere? How do they get bailed out of jail? Who is organizing them? Who pays them to travel around and do this? Are they just rich kids that hate their parents and have no soul? In the U.S. if one person does something wrong we get a whole new law that affects all of us. One person puts a bomb in his shoe and gets on a plane – now we all have to take our shoes off! Bull Crap! I think there should be an investigation into these anarchist groups, They keep showing up everywhere, who are they, who funds them, how many of them are there?

      Guerrino_P – To try to say that these anarchists are similar to the Tea Party is so ludicrous that is does nothing but emphasize the idiotic reasoning of the far left. Since it is obvious that you haven’t the slightest idea of what you speak let me help clarify things for you. I will try to keep it simple so that it won’t confuse you.
      The people in London are protesting because of budget cuts in the U.K. The Tea Party’s main point of contention is excessive government spending. One group is rioting because the government is cutting back on give-aways while the other (who has never rioted or been violent) is protesting and trying to end government give-aways. I can’t make it any plainer then that. I am sure that a child in the 3rd grade can understand that but since it may be too complicated for you feel free to ask someone else to help you understand it. Maybe there are some grade schoolers in your area you can ask.

      One way to deal with riots is for local officials to announce that there will be no police presence. Local residents and shop owners will be expected to defend their property, rights and lives by exercising their 2nd amendment rights.

      This has happened in our cities already. Look at the damage done to the statehouse in Wisconsin. The beautiful marble was stained by coffee and food, chipped and ruined by adhesives used by union protesters during their 2-week takeover of the building. They may not have sprayed graffiti, but the results are the same. Also, those union thugs that took over the lobbies of several banks in the last week were frightening and out-of-control. Thugs are thugs, no matter which continent they are on.

      I think we have seen the beginning salvo in Wisconsin and Illinois. These are the same anarchists who’s goal is to over throw capitalism and bring about totalitarianism throughout the world. Workers of the world unite! is not a slogan, it’s a way of life. You can see Communism is making a comeback.

      Name once that anyone from the Tea Party has been violent. Thing is you can’t, and do you know why? Because the Tea Party is not like SEIU, Unions, Anarchists, Socialists, Communists or anything of the such. They are patriots and will continue to rise up peacefully when we can see that unconstitutional acts are being preformed by the government.

      For the problem going on in London the police had better start using rubber bullets, tasers, or something. as these people are out of control. The mess that they are causing and the property they are destroying is an absolute crime. Plus they are definitely as messy and rowdy as the union members here in America.

      I drive a truck for a grocery company here in California. This scares me as I also believe it will happen soon. If I ever have my path blocked by rioters, I don’t intend to stop. Blow horn, hammer down. I’m not allowed to carry a weapon but I probably could get away with having a can of wasp spray.

      Oh it’s coming here. The entitlement rich society promised by the progressives to the masses to which the progressive morons can’t deliver will cause a large backlash here. Check out Detroit, New Orleans, and some of these other welfare rich areas. They want theirs and they don’t care who is in the way for them to get it. This is what happens when there is a total breakdown in family values,personal responsibility, and political correctness.

      this would never happen in south Georgia, U.S. we even had a G-8 summit with no violence, because backing up our Police are thousands of armed citizens just waitin on the governor to ask for cleanup help.

      It looks like CHICAGO when the gangs mark.. I have seen worse and more.. What they need to do is SHOOT the little @ss holes.. when they get violent.. destroy property.. and act like they were DRUG up rather than BROUGHT up..by their parents..
