SNL Brings All the GOP Candidates Back for a Sing-Along

SNL Brings All the GOP Candidates Back for a Sing Along

NBC

With the race for the Republican presidential nomination looking wrapped up, Saturday Night Live brought all the candidates back for a farewell sing-along and some reminiscing about the past few months.

Starting with Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney and Andy Samberg as the just-departed Rick Santorum, the two complimented one another on their respective campaigns and celebrated their achievements — Santorum ordering a chocolate milk and Romney ordering a napkin.

Singing a rendition of Green Day’s “Time of Your Life,” Romney handed the waitress her tip in a sealed envelope for her husband (”he’ll know best what to do with it”) while Santorum shouted after her, “Don’t spend it on birth control!”

It was then on to Bill Hader as Rick Perry — who lamented “taking a deuce every time I opened my darn mouth” — Kristen Wiig as Michele Bachmann, Keenan Thompson as Herman Cain and even a quick appearance by Bobby Moynihan as Newt Gingrich, who stopped into steal some bar nuts. (Ron Paul was not featured in the clip, presumably because cast member Paul Brittain left the show in January.)

They obviously left Paul out because of how difficult it is to make fun of him. Perry, Bachmann, and Cain were easy targets; Cain never appeared in any primary and Perry and Bachmann both dropped out after Iowa because it was obvious their runs were dead in the water. Huntsman dropped out after New Hampshire.

Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul were THE primary candidates. So it’s just funny that Paul left out. Leaving out Huntsman is understandable because I don’t think he was ever above 1%.

You’re right about it being tough to satirize Ron Paul. To get a send up on SNL you must say or do something stupid & not be Liberal. That & they have no one intelligent enough to do a believable Ron Paul impression.

Who do these comedians think they are! SNL has been on the air for decades and the network just keeps on selling millions of dollars in advertising based on the so-called “humor” of these copycat imitators who are just reading lines written by others and just dressing and speaking like respectable politicians.
These fools have never done an original thing in their lives, yet they are all wealthy and famous! IMHO, that is the real joke about 30 Rockefeller Center.

Were is the separation between the Democrat script writers and the political forum called electioneering. I fail to see any difference between an “attack ad” and the SNL infomercial in support of the local Democrat candidate. Should NBC and other satire Bill Maher type programs be equally charged as extensions of political advertising? There seems to be little difference in the focus of how far Democrats will go to sell their product to the voters.
Its obvious the White House, or the Democratic National Party can’t make certain types of statements . But they sure as hell can use their surrogates at NBC or Bill Maher to make verbal comments that all good liberal Democrats would love to do, Live its Saturday Night.

If you make fun of one side of the political aisle 99% of the time, and the other side only 1% of the time, you’re NOT comedians, you’re partisan hacks.

Oh, and these leftists are so brave: they are speaking Truth to the out of power. So brave!

I know, I know, Obama is too “cool” to make fun of. That’s just their way of saying, we’re afraid of making fun of him because the thought police will call us racists.

If you’re upset by this, you’re giving far too much credit to their viewing audience. I’d be willing to bet that only a handful of people actually understood what they were mocking, since most SNL viewers have more interest in drugs, alcohol, sex and parties than politics.

The premise of SNL and sitcoms is to take a non-story and make it into something humorous. It‘s much easier to poke fun at ’good people’ than evil, therefore Republicans and Conservatives will always be an easy target for them. I don’t take it personally, and neither should you.

Not leftist? Like when they made jokes about Ford, Reagan, G Bush, and GW Bush? At what point were they not leftists? Just because the actors are now old doesn‘t mean they weren’t liberals, and still are. The only SNL player who was a conservative is the partial ****** Victoria Jackson, and she readily admits, she became the conservative conspiracy champ because it made her money.

It‘s always been slapstick sarcasm and is just as political as when it came out in the 70’s. I was never a fan of the show, but I’d hear people talking about it and try to watch some of the more popular skits which usually opened the show.

Remember watching Chevy Chase stumble around making Gerald Ford look like a complete idiotic klutz? Or when Eddie Murphy did his Jesse Jackson skits during his presidential run? Remember all the fun they made of Bill Clinton eating burgers and fries? Or Dana Carvey doing Bush’s thousand points of light?

SNL skit: Church Lady is having an “isn’t that special” dialogue with Jeremiah Wright.

The topic gravitates to family…. and roosting chickens’ home-comin recipies.
She asks Wright: Are you Fred Sanford’s nephew?
You look & talk like him.
Why, he used to yell to your aunt Elizabeth, “I’m comin”
      In walks Barack Obama.
Seeing Jeremiah Wright, he tries to sneek back out withuot being noticed..
      Church Lady jumps up,
      runs off stage
and comes back –dragging Barack by the arm.

Jeremiah says: Hello Mr. President… I’m still here; as me.

      Church Lady expresses specialness;
and how excited she is to witness the family reunion of Reverend Wright and his nephew.

Barack acts as though he did not hear Church Lady.
Church Lady repeats her excitement…. and still, Barack seems to have not heard her.
Church Lady re-repeats in a louder voice.
Barack, smiles and co(ks his head a bit.
Then, in a low vioce, he calmly asks: Why are you yelling Church Lady?

Church Lady replies: You said you never heard a word your uncle said in twenty years, so I thought yuo must be hard of hearing.

Barack again smiles and says: Church Lady, Ya, y, ya, You kinda remind me of my grandmother.
Church Lady asks: Oh, was she special too?

      >Barack replies: No — “My grandmother was a typical white woman”.
