SNL: Jesus Asks Tim Tebow to ‘Take it Down a Notch’

Saturday Night Live Jesus Asks Tim Tebow to Take it Down a Notch | Tim Tebow SNL

NBC

After yet another amazing last-minute victory for the Denver Broncos, Jesus stopped by the team locker room on Saturday Night Live to tell quarterback Tim Tebow he needs to start playing better earlier in the games.

His other request? That Tebow, famous for getting on one knee and kneeling in prayer during a game, “take it down a notch” with regard to his outward displays of faith.

“Here’s the thing, if we’re going to keep doing this, you guys gotta meet me out halfway out there. I mean, let’s face it. It’s not a good week if every week I, the son of God, have to come in, drop everything and bail out the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter, OK? I’m a busy guy,” Jesus, played by Jason Sudeikis, implored.

Tebow, played by Taran Killam, excitedly told Jesus he prays to him before every game, but Jesus wasn’t having it.

“Here’s something else you should do before every game: Stretch. Get the arm all warm, you know? Read the playbook, do you read the playbook?” he asked.

“The Holy Bible is my playbook,” Tebow said.

“OK, that’s great, that’s great but you need to read the regular playbook,” Jesus said. “You know who you should be thanking? Your kicker, OK? You don’t win unless this guy gets a 59 yarder. I’m serious man, Matt Prater, I pray to you brother.”

“Wow, you pray to me? I didn’t know that,” Prater said from the locker room bench.

“That‘s because I’m not in everyone’s face about it,” Jesus said, with a knowing look at Tebow.

As he wrapped up his visit, Jesus said the team’s on their own next week — he has a “big birthday,” after all — and winced when he heard they’d be playing the New England Patriots.

“If I’m the son of God, Tim Brady‘s gotta be the guy’s nephew,” he said.

As he left, he added, “Mormonism? All true. Every single word. All right, peace.”

SNL, the jesters of the progressive kingdom, always marginalize and isolate those that the left don’t want you to listen to.

Isn’t it curious that leftists are made fun of by exaggerating positives? Job Interviewing 101… when responding to a “bad trait” question, turn a positive into a negative. Sometimes I am too much a perfectionist, sometimes i take work home with me, sometimes i work too long of hours blah blah blah… Or lets joke how I am the smartest man in the world and the frustration of dealing with the unintelligent masses

MLS is correct about progs to a tee. I thought the skit was funny personally. I kinda agree with their assertion that some people take it too far. My relationship with God and Jesus is a personal, private matter to me. I don‘t believe that God or Jesus take anybody’s side in contests. That is BS. That is some sort of mental disease to think that one is so much more adored by God and Jesus that they actually intervene on his behalf. He does need to tone it down. I despise politicians that attempt to latch themselves to the sports hero of the day. Be wary of those that proclaim to be closer to Jesus than the rest of us.

Honestly, I thought it was a well done skit. Seemed to me it was thoughtful and took a very controversial topic and put a little perspective on it. When I was “holy or’ than now”, I recall reflecting inside about how God most certainly didn’t care about football or who won or not. I recall feeling that competitions such as in the NFL were meaningless acts created by man only to promote pride and ego. I am so glad I fell from grace, honestly. It wasn’t until I gained enough wisdom that I understood what even the most simple of animals always knew. The life that has been pressed upon me is only an illusion, that which has been created by the never ending and echoing “knowledge” of flesh. It was through the teaching of the Toltec’s which changed the hold I allowed the world to have on me. Dating back to initial sin as Eve bought into the lie of Satan and partook of the fruit from the tree of “knowledge”, believing, “ye shall be as Gods”, to know good and bad(Gen 3). So man has forever since acted upon this earth, living as Gods, knowing good and bad, judging others and laying out the protocol supposedly designed as a path of salvation but ultimately is only set up to empower men and ensure obedience through fear and conditional love. So lost is man, forgetting, Christ has died so we can break the chains of death so man can partake of the tree of “life”. Knowledge is not power, but only wisdom is. Faith vs Fear,Who is your master? To Which kingdom do you pledge your

SNL is a PERFECT example of what is wrong with ‘media’ today.

There is virtually NO skill as comedians among the cast. Without a laugh track, they and cue cards they fall flat on their faces.

The only material they can come up with lacks creativity, enthusiasm, originality, approach and execution. And delves into politics as though they have some meaningful unique perspective. Which this clearly demonstrates, they do not.

Tastelessness in the corner stone of SNL. And THAT should be indication of their lack of creative skill.

IMHBLO, SNL is an empty shell of its former glory days. A sad reminder that just having a venue can not substitute for talent. It can not recover any of the respect it once had as a cutting edge creative and entertaining program whose cast was a well oiled machine of comedic genius.,

RULER4YOU . . . You’re so VERY adult. Very WRONfG, but very adult. SNL doesn’t use a laugh track. And it seems every week they do stuff that makes it into the American discussion. And for some people like you nothing will ever measure up to the glory days of yore. That, of course, is nothing more than a mirage for the terminally nostalgic. Nice try though. Keep on sounding adult. It fools a lot of morons here.

Really I am thinking that this poster Br@dley wants to fight with any one, and every one. He is a lost soul destined for hell and he hates with a passion because he can not measure up to any one or any thing. But, Jesus does not ask a man to measure up, only to believe in Him, repent, and turn to follow obediantly. Be baptized in His name as a testimony of your belief in Him. Let the world know you have faith in Jesus that He will perfect you and prepare a table for you in the presence of your enemies.

For me Br@dley registers in as an enemy of all decent men and women. Especially of those proclaiming salvation through Jesus.

Nostalgia? I’ll take the classic SNL humor of John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Chevy Chase, George Coe, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Michael O’Donoghue, Gilda Radner and other members of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players over what passes for humor these days. And show me the comedic successors to Monty Python, Carry On, Benny Hill, and the Fireside Theater. The current crop can get laughs only when they make fun of sincere belief, or sprinkle their conversation with the F word. (Apparently, an “effin chicken” is funnier than just “a chicken.”)

Tebow is giving the glory for winning to Jesus, as all Christians should do. The hard part is thanking Jesus for the strength and courage to accept a loss, to lean on him in the valley as well as the mountaintop.

I am certain that when the Broncos lose, and sooner or later they will, Mr. Tebow will still be praising Jesus and find a way to give all the glory to God.

Exactly. If every Christian in America took it up a notch (both in public and in private) we would be well on our way to recovery/restoration, both within and without, micro and macro.

Generally, only godless leftists have a problem with this. If every Christian in America put a big crucifix on their car with the message ‘the power of Christ compels you’, it would have a profoundly postive impact. Millions of godless leftist progressive-marxist types would magically and mysteriously be pulled towards the Lord.

@palerider – celebs have been giving thanks to God for decades in public. Rappers, athletes, actors, pols, have all used God as a means to draw attention to themselves and attempt to gain favor with the public.
If you go to any highschool football game in this country you can see dozens of players and often entire teams bowing to give prayer. As if God cares about an athletic event. This is just more egocentric “Christians” who believe God wants to micromanage every small detail.

Good points, Obamamustgo! It seems like Christians unashamed of their faith are constantly being told, “Be quiet. Keep it to yourself. Tone it down.” LOL Meanwhile, others are free to openly pray when they wish, or to bash Christianity as they wish. HYPOCRITES may be found in the Church at times, but there sure are a lot more of them OUTSIDE it than in, IMO!

That’s right. Keep telling us to “tone it down” and we’ll just TURN IT UP! LOL :-)

Part of our very faith is to BE open with it. If that makes some feel uncomfortable, well, some discomfort is simply a part of life.

Those who do: PLEASE stop telling us Christians to “sit down and shut up.” You say we’re annoying for speaking out about our faith, or displaying nativity scenes or whatnot at Christmas–well in the mortal words of Steve Martin (a REAL comedian) “Well excuuuuuse me (us)!” YOU are annoying for your continuous whining and complaining about it!

Usually, I‘m a little upset when someone takes Jesus and puts words in his mouth or implies that he’d support a certain political cause. In this case, it was intended tongue-in-cheek and, taking it that way, I do find it kind of amusing. I do wish Tebow would “take it down a notch” in implying that God takes a personal interest in the outcome of his games. If it was just gratefulness at being blessed with speed, strength, and accuracy, and the outlet to use it all, I’d be quite satisfied. Prayer is getting in touch with the mind and heart of God as much or more than it is getting God in touch with our wants and needs (of which God is already keenly aware).

I guess you have listened to a few too many of his critics on that particular issue and not actually listened to Tim himself, thanking Jesus 24/7 is just what he does no matter what, he WILL lose a game at some point and you WILL hear him thank Jesus immediately after the loss as well. When did Tebow ever say that God takes a personal outcome in his games ? Could it be possible that he prays to be protected from injury on the field ?

Could it also be possible that Tebow thanks God every game because He is thankful for being on the field never mind winning ?

In this day of Jesus bashing and sin running wild. Maybe it is possible that God is just trying to open up are eyes to faith and himself and he understands that many people with little faith including non believers might open their eyes, IF they see someone like Tebow do the impossible ? like win a super bowl ? especially when all the pundits said it was impossible. Yes Jesus most likely does not care about the football games. But he does care about people having faith in him and maybe this is the one way to make non believers believers again.

Are people uneasy about Tim Tebow’s talk about Jesus, because they are actually questioning the direction that their lives are headed? Im not a very religious person, but Iam very spiritual and see nothing wrong with his actions. Question- How come muslims can pray multiple times to mecca during their work day and an uproar occurs if their employer tells them to get back to work. No workee,No payee. Seems to me like there is angenda to stifle Christianity in America. Let’s ask the racist, muslim, communist on Pennsylvania Ave. One of the 1# rules of the Communist Manifesto is to crush religion. islam is not a religion, just a twisted misguided cult. Kind of like liberalism. Merry CHRISTmas or Happy Hanauka to all! muslims-you get coal and ugly women. Go Tim. I respect your courage.

You know, I‘m a Christian and I’m all about “yeah, it’s cool, make a joke.” People always making fun of Christians; I laugh sometimes too. Yet, nobody wants to make fun of Islam because if you do; you are suddenly a bigot. You become an intolerant extremist…. it makes no sense to me.

I’ll be anxiously awaiting the SNL skit of Mohammad telling his followers, to “take it down a notch” on their “Killing all the Jews” mantra ..! Oh….And make sure it’s during Ramadan when it’s aired .
Talk about a funny skit …I’ll just bet the Muslims will be rolling with laughter .( end sarcasm)

Why is Christianity such a threat to the left? If forgiveness, a higher power (than the U.S. government), and moral standards seem dangerous to the left, we have to wonder what the left’s intentions are. http://tinyurl.com/7pzbbvy

      1ME2AO,
Of course not! The cowardly crew at SNL would NEVER mock the disciples of Allah!
That would take courage! They have none.
SNL writers are no different than those writing for Stewart and Colbert.
They write for an audience of mindless sheeple(apologys to real sheep worldwide).

Sheeple writers appealing to a sheeple audience. A vicious cycle, NON?

I agree with a previous poster. I too was disgusted by the FOX weekend crew of Dave, Allison, and Clayton chortling over the SNL Tebow segment.
Better they should have wondered out loud …, if Tebow was a muslim would SNL mock him for raising his derriere to heaven 5 times a day?

Tim is a witness to His greatness. Mock and laugh all you want. Tim will worship win or lose. He will give God the glory even in a loss. But Lord it sure is fun to see the media try to explain it all…It’s so funny to see them stumble over their thoughts and words. Maybe soon they will see the unbelieveable and really start to see that Christ is calling them through Tim to be their Savior….We can only hope.

I hope they lose anyway. God shouldn’t favor any NFL team. NFL is a bunch of facists. The least God can do for their sales is the best. NOBODY CARES about stupid NFL anymore. If you do your full of it! Tebow is to good for the losers in NFL who screw anything that moves and are more drugged up than inner city vagrants. DOWN WITH NFL!!!
