SNL Sketch: Michael Steele Explains His Love for ‘Tea-to-the-Party’

The sad thing about this is that if they understood the Tea Party, even a little, if they understood the perspective and what potential it holds for minorities, for African Americans, that little skit could have been really, really funny. They definitely left money on the comedic table, so to speak.

Consider Snoop Dog and Willy Nelson; they could have appeared as Mr. Steele’s converts and understudies, enlightened to Steele’s perspectives on capitalism, how it all relates to dealing the marijuana; that black America, people on big busses, on the streets and in the “hood,” it’s all very much a capitalist society that wants to stay that way; wants the government out . . . sees the big government as competition.

Take Anthony Weiner, he shows up demanding his right to take part of Mr. Dog’s and Mr. Nelson’s commerce, tax their exchange; because he’s the party that hates rich black people, rich white people, all da peoples that want to make da money and buy shiny new thangs, like gold chains and sum bling-bling on da fingas, new gun, new greel, traveling utopia busses and dat sorta thaang.

But nooo . . . SNL continues to leave all dat money on da table; coulda been real funny seein’ Snoop n’ Willie slappn’ da Weinna round out on da porch.

Pure irony . . . Pure liberal contradictions . . . And would be funny too if it wasn’t all so serious. But “Black America,” know that we all have much more in common than what liberalism will ever allow you to know . . . But it’s up to you to figure it all out. I’m sure we’ll laugh really hard together when you do . . . but hurry it up; it’s getting depressing out here: SNL can’t even write a good skit about us anymore . . .

I thought this skit was racist to the core. SNL was must see TV for me for a long time, especially their election editions, the skits were funny, on topic, and always a little biting. Especially Dana Carvey playing Perot and Bush 41, with Darrel Hammond as Clinton, but since the mid nineties, SNL has just gone nuts, maybe it’s the culture of NBC or my tastes have changed. I haven’t watched the show live (or TIVO) for over 10 years. This skit is just one reason, this portrayal using hundred year old stereotypes to demean a successful black man is just plain mean and despicable.

The Dems have pushed the notion that ‘diversity’ is helped through the notion of black unity. As a result, fifty years after civil rights, we now have a nation where there are token blacks in Congress representing black interests rather than Americans who happen to be black representing all Americans in broader Senate and governor positions. America went as far as electing a largely unknown and inexperienced black president who promised there would be one America. To those of us who want to look beyond color, that meant bringing the black community into the mainstream while leaving group identity politics behind. To those of us who wanted to continue diversity and group identity rights, it meant even more government intervention and never ending, always increasing redistribution. Instead of the election of a black president leading to a color blind society, it has just opened the door to call anyone who doesn’t support Obama policies a racist. We should have learned when Bill and Hillary and their supporters were called racists in the primary. We should have learned when McCain, the GOP, and the tea party were called racists in the general election. Instead we bought into hope and change and now are stuck with four years of being called racists by fools who don’t seem to care what upside down policies have done to the black community. They don’t seem to care that they are setting the table for the next generation of black children to reject the American dream in exchange for the false hope that big government will save them from the evil white man. When will this division end?

A splendid dissertation Barackem. Unfortunately, I don’t see where it has much to do with the topic at hand. Oh, and the black grown up in the White House tends to negate your supposition that a generation of black children will reject the American dream….due to salvation from the evil white man.

The sooner the racist hollering crybabies grow up the better.Racism is simply put, hatred of someone for stereotypical reasons. To me it shows the immaturity of those using it.Although, It is simple to dicern, and call it what it is,it seems counterproductive to even use the term anymore because of its evolved misused usage.I think we need to start calling what it is ,and that is hatred.Until people stop walking around in “glass shoes”and get over their self percieved greatness because of what they think they are things will not change.People have always looked down their noses at others because of some sterotypical fashion that they or society have percieved. We should not buy into it ,and let them be ashamed. We should be able to poke fun at all of the idiosynchrosies of mankind without people taking it personal. It is when it becomes downright hatred is when it needs to be curtailed. It is not about black, white ,yellow, green ,whatever,it is about fellow human beings.

Not the point. M. Steele did the job, in my opinion there were problems with him. None of which were based on the color of his skin. Only a conservative would be subject to such race based lampooning. All the leftist mainstream needs to do is nod approvingly, like you are doing right now,and its magically OK. Got news for you Daze, it ain’t OK. It is juvenile and racist. While SNL is completely irrelavent, they still do have an audience, mushy headed as they are and public airwaves are not the place for racist rants.

Many Blazers, including me, condemn Rev. Al for characterizing Rush Limbaugh’s broadcasts as racist. Yet we become indignant at a late night comedy routine and call it racist. We condemn the use of race for political reasons, then we opine that Mr. Steele was elected simply because of his race.

Rev. Al’s attempts to silence any views not consistent with his progressive, racially charged agenda is something to be watched closely. Especially since he has chosen to use a regulatory body that can and will do whatever it wants to do and is not accountable to the electorate.

A comedy skit on SNL hardly rises to that level, does it? Let‘s be careful that we don’t advocate the outlawing of fun.

I don’t think I would say people are indignant. When the left talks about republicans the race card is almost always played even though the repubs have been the champions of minorities. The dems have done nothing for the minorities in this country but keep them shackled to the government.
The discussion here is fueled by charges of racism by the left, against us, when they are indeed more apt to stereotype blacks in an unfortunate light.

There is a huge difference between us and Rev Sharpton. We aren’t in charge of or have a voice in any regulatory body.

It is worth writing letters to SNL complaining about how the skit offended us. Cowardly companies make all of their decisions based upon the complaints they receive rather than what’s right.

It seems like it is worth while to point them out every time they act like hypocrites. When objective people see the exchange they will see them as the two faced people they are.

@ NickDeringer – You are right. I though Steele was the right person for the job, since he had the press exposure from Fox news and other media outlets, but after learning more about Ken Blackwell, he was the more qualified candidate by far. He would have handled the situation better with Rush, the Tea Party, and squared off with RINO‘s and the Dem’s very well compared to what Steele has done. I hope he runs again and is chosen this time.

The philosophy is you tell a lie long enough people will begin to believe it. Especially all the sheeple. Chaos by design. Part of the Van Jones, George Soros destruction of a nation plan. Remember! The Founders was a very small group of men. Washington’s army was a small group of soldiers. All things considered (as a percentage of the population) there are not going to a lot of people in this country that “GET IT” until it is too late. Then…it will be too late.

I used to watch this show when I was a kid and I didn’t see political biased humor back then (maybe because I was a kid) but I don’t think back then they did the propaganda crap they are doing now!!! I remember “Mr Bill”, the one guy that did the “basa ball bin berry guud to me” skit, Steve Martin and his “what the hell is that” and my favorite was the news with Chevy Chase (can’t believe what a ******* he turned into) and Roseanne Roseanna Danna!!!!!! . I think that news skit is what got me interested in current event as I am now!! THANK GOD I didn’t get wrapped up in that crap and became a constitutionalists! I have tryed to watch the show and it is really so “dumb” that it is unbearable to watch… Sorry SNL… you suck!
