SNL: The Real Bill OReilly Shows Up

Fox News‘ Bill O’Reilly made an appearance on Saturday Night Live’s “What Up With That,” a recurring talk show sketch where the host, played by Kenan Thompson, routinely breaks into song and dance.

Thompson billed the segment as the show’s “President’s Day episode,” and O’Reilly was on hand to spread some knowledge about Abraham Lincoln, the subject of his latest book. O‘Reilly couldn’t get more than a few words out, having to contend with the sketch’s regular silliness. Still, he was a good sport, even tapping his feet along with the music.

    For those of who who are unfamiliar with SNL, the entire point of the sketch is that the guests cannot get a word in edgewise because of the ridiculous antics of the host. That is what is supposed to make it funny. Get a sense of humor people.

      AGREED 100%. Sometimes we need to step back from the political noise and just let something like these sketches be the moderately funny things that they are. The thing that makes Republicans better people is that we can laugh at ourselves.

      I haven’t watched SNL regularly since I was a teen in the 1970s. As I got older it got over the top for me. However, I did enjoy this skit.

      Yes, it was Damn funny, for those who liked Beavis and Butt-Head. Especially how Kenan Thompson joked about how the White House took his weed, after O’Reilly gave that drug rant on the “Today Show” as well as “Fox and Friends” and his show over a few nights. Do any of you think that their intent was to not ridicule him beyond the norm of SNL ?

      Since the 70s SNL is a little older than me I have to say that during the era of Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, David Spade, and Adam Sandler it was pretty funny. After those guys left it started going downhill.

      A long time ago, SNL was funny. Great talent. Belushi and the samurai. Church lady. They merely teased hypocrytical whoever. Now, SNL is focused on an agenda and it’s not funny. The liberal left talk radio attempt failed because nobody really believes that garbage. Yet so many are uninformed and voted for Obamma with no clue what he’s all about. Now we have a glimpse. Only hard core 70+ lifelong supporters of the democrats are going to vote for Obamma again. And that’s because they only get their news from ABC,CBS or NBC…or whatever version of the new york times newspaper that still publishes in their city or town.

      SNL stopped being funny and started to be more about leftwing idology after the eddie murphy years…I never missed a show during those years but after that I statrted to see a message a steady projection I started watching less and less until one day I stopped haven‘t seen the show since the early 90’s. And to all you people who say lighten here’s a joke
      what do you call a black kid on a bike….a theif.
      Yes racist and discrimatory in it’s message and would probably offend a black person.
      Well SNL does that against conservatives,and Republicans EVERY WEEK. And you have the nerve to say lighten up.

      Actually, it started before the first of those guys left.

      The beginning of the end of SNL being funny was when Dana Carvey and Mike Myers left. The bulk of the Carvey/Myers skits were spent trying to make each other laugh and Carvey almost always won.

      Sandler was more of a buffoon in his SNL days and actually got funnier in his movies. I never liked David Spade that much and Farley was utterly hilarious, but God bless Phil Hartman- he was very funny going all the way back to Captain Carl in the The Pee Wee Herman Show (and later, Pee Wee’s Playhouse).

      Are any of us really paying close attention to O’Reilly? The man’s a fool. His guests are usually graceful and try not to openly disagree with him (It is his show) but you can tell they quite often believe he is wrong. Furthermore, he never gives ANYONE the chance to actually speak a whole thought on a subject. Even when he says “I’ll give you the last word,” he doesn’t. He still intrudes, interrupts, or gives his opinion anyway. C’mon people. Be critical of this fraud.

    Loosen up yall, my gosh, that was funny as helll. I loved the look on O’reillys face, it was priceless. You dont get the chance but every now and then to see Bill let his guard down. And knowing he did it for book sales that will go to the wounded warriors makes it all that much better. You do know that all procedes go to the wounded warriors dont you. Of course you do!

      Life is a balancing act…everyone has to mix a little fun, in with all the serious stuff.
      O’Reilly already serves, as master over the ratings war-
      his appearance, probably boosted SNL ratings out of the root cellar.

      He should have donned, a Lincoln stovepipe hat
      and shoved it over the model’s head, so he could have been the prettiest one there.

      The fluffy guy, in the red, Richard Simmons, track suit,
      dancing in front of “Kenny G”
      with ALL that energy,
      needs to be the opener, for the next Republican debate.

      sometimes, the most “Unfunny” things
      turn out to be…the funniest.

      You know, it’s not funny, whenever, you see someone fall-
      but, you still laugh your azz off, anyways…….Rubbernecking Comedy !

      Never watch SNL, don’t know any of the characters,
      except, for that “Thelma Rude-dolf” chick-
      she seems to be burnin’ the candle at both ends,
      her face is all over the place
      and it’s kinda too bad.
      She, really, gives Renee’ Zellweger a run for the money,
      when it comes to “sourpuss chicks”, who looked like they suck on lemons 24/7.

      There used to be a whole lot of “likeable” SNL characters….NO longer.

    I switched from his show to Fox Business Network to watch Judge Napalitano. I cannot believe the difference, but now they are getting rid of Judge Napalitano. I think it’s b/c he’s the only one in news telling us the truth!

      Dude, lighten up. It’s a comedy show! “What Up With That” is a regular SNL segment that always turns out the same way. The host invites someone of intellectual substance (e.g., O’Reilly) and does the song and dance instead of letting them talk seriously. O’Reilly actually got more in than any of the other guests the routine has had on. Bill did just fine.

    Bill OReilly is a smart businessman and knew how to play along with the What’s up with that” script. He will sell a few more books, create a few new viewers for the Factor. Those new readers and viewers will be exposed to some truths that have not been available in their past. It’s a win-win.

      It isn‘t Bill’s anger you see. He’s just not dropping his guard to become the next YouTube-gaff sensation. He knows he’s not on “safe” turf. On his own program Bill wore a goofy hat, I recall, for a laugh with pal Glenn Beck. He knows how to laugh at himself.

    Bill O’Reilly and SNL Whatta combination.
    O‘Reilly has become a joke and SNL is as funny as Bill O’Reilly giving us his take on
    world events.
    Neither are worth watching.

    Bill is doing PR to soften his tough guy image with an audience that doesn‘t tend to watch the O’Reilly Factor on Fox News. The SNL skit worked for him because he’s a pro — and because he willfully didn’t gawk at all of the lovely cleavage on the set. The guy’s got manners, a keen intellect and self-respect.

      O‘Reilly wouldn’t have given SNL the time of day unless he thought it was funny (despite the obvious Democratic bias). He also has a healthy enough ego to admire the show’s gentle mocking (prodding, stroking) of him in previous shows — as a mutual admiration society of sorts. He’s a sucker for trying to win over audiences that might dislike him as a Fox News commentator.

      You think this was a Lion’s Den??? More like Pu**ie’s pillow perch. It‘s a comedy show in case you didn’t realize. O’Reily is trying to promote himself as being hip and having a sense of humor. He’s as stiff as a board and utterly bafoonish. He’s not fooling anyone. The skit was funny because it was complete chaotic nonsense. So is O’Reily. Nonsense.
