NEW YORK (The Blaze/AP) — Passengers on a JetBlue plane were stranded on the tarmac in Connecticut for more than seven hours Saturday after snowstorms on the East Coast required the flight be diverted.
A passenger on the plane diverted to Bradley International Airport said they had no food, water or working bathrooms for the last few hours of the ordeal.
The plane left Florida at 10 a.m. Saturday and landed in Connecticut around 1:30 p.m., where it sat motionless for hours. Passengers began dialing 911 when they weren’t given adequate explanations for why they were stuck.
“At the three-hour mark they told us by law they had to let us off the plane. They were waiting for a tug to take us to a gate. We heard that same message at the four-hour mark, and continuing until state troopers boarded the plane for a medical emergency,” Robert, a passenger who did not want to give his last name, told NBC Connecticut.
He added, “I’ll never fly JetBlue again, and I’ll never fly through Connecticut again.”
Fed-up, frustrated passengers took to social media sites, including Twitter, to vent their outrage. One Twitter user, Andrew Carter, kept up a running account as the hours crawled by.

According to the station, a paraplegic on the flight had a medical issue about seven hours after the plane landed, at which point police and firefighters came aboard to provide medical assistance, leading to the passengers disembarking.
A JetBlue spokeswoman, Victoria Lucia, confirmed in an emailed statement that six of its planes, carrying a total of about 700 passengers, were diverted to Hartford as a result of a “confluence of events” including infrastructure issues at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark International Airport.
She noted that a total of 17 other flights were also diverted to the airport.
Lucia said that intermittent power outages at the airport made refueling and deplaning difficult. She declined to specify how long planes sat on the tarmac, but said passengers would be reimbursed.
Kate Hani, executive editor of consumer advocacy site FlyersRights.org, said she got calls from passengers and family members on at least three stranded flights at Bradley International that were stranded on the tarmac for up to 10 hours.
JetBlue of New York also made headlines in 2007 when snow and ice storms stranded its planes for nearly 11 hours at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.
A regulation that went into effect last year fines airlines for holding domestic flights on the tarmac for more than three hours. This year, the rule was extended to apply to international flights that are held on the tarmac for more than four hours.
Passengers do not get a cut of the fines, however.
Connecticut Gov. Daniel Malloy called Saturday’s snowfall a “historic storm” and said cots were mobilized to accommodate passengers forced to sleep in the airport overnight.

Brainwashed much? Drinking the liberal cool-aid? Your Socialist nirvana is a Steven Spielberg fantasy. There is a reason it has never worked, and it’s not because “it hasn’t been done right yet”, as other bleeding heart liberals attest. It hasn‘t happened because it by nature reduces man’s desire to better himself and he falls inline to be ruled by those who seize control. In essence it turns man into a whining, useless sack of sh^t. What lofty goals you have…

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 6:48pm@rose – off your meds again, huh?
Capitalism has NOTHING to do with this! Nor does Ronald Regan, though you would LOVE to blame everything, including your mental issues, on anyone but yourself – especially a conservative.
The airlines USED to not allow passengers to disembark, in an effort to maintain on-time stats, fuel efficiency, etc. Now, they are required to allow passengers off. Jet Blue was ATTEMPTING to do exactly that. However, the AIRPORT must also be able to accommodate them with tugs, gates, etc. In a winter storm, that is not so easy. Jet Blue was ATTEMPTING to allow the passengers off the plane. The airport has no financial motive (no capitalist motive) to delay. So, it was clearly a logistics issue.
PLUS, they were not without food and water for 11.5 hours! It was the last few hours. Geez. You’ve never been without food or water or a bathroom for a few hours? Consider this Mooshelle’s contribution to the slimming of America – a forced diet for a few hours. Big whoop.
Oh, BTW – on-time statistics are a FEDERAL REGULATION. The airlines suffer financially if they do not have good on-time statistics. Those statistics are a federal requirement. Without the federal requirement, airlines simply do their best to get you there on time. With the federal laws of on-time stats, they must do everything to make that stats look good – the stats take precedence over the paying customer. (HARDLY “DE-REGULATION” to blame – more like GOVERNMENT!)

The state should have been involved right away instead of sitting around waiting until this thing got worse before deciding what to do. When in doubt, side with common sense and human dignity. Well legally you have to give 3 hours
I could have beat that with medical issues
For fliers, Make sure it is medical, don’t fake it, but if you have even the slight chest pain
Call it up and declare an emergency
slight medical and even chest pains could mean death at the end.
So ven if you got cellphone. call it out.
EMS will respond to the plane.
Don’t fake it tho, it may not allow EMS to respond to anybody who may die.
But EMS says if you have even a slight pain, call 911 they will know and EMS crews who respond will know.
Ambulance crews don’t give a **** of the costs, all they want to do is save your life, PERIOD
The bill, deal with it later.
BLAZERS ARE MY FRIEND AND SO IS GLENN BECK
This post is for you

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 3:52pmTwo ways to “solve” this problem – one, as happened, someone gets sick and requires medics. The other is to stand up and blow the emergency door – that’ll get everyone off really fast. The airlines do not give a rat’s patoot about the laws. We got stuck in the same airport due to the ABE airport being weathered in, and were stuck in an Allegiant plane for hours. That was before I refused to ever fly on another commercial flight. I’d like to thank the TSA for making that possible.

The overelming question is why do the passengers that suffered not get the money? The government has no skin in the game
I know for myself after three hours I’d be freaking out, because of being closed in. I’m surprised someone does not pop an emergency exit. After all that is what they call unlawfull restraint

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 4:31pmOh, the passengers get compensated…probably $100 off their next JetBlue flight. Whoopee! The airlines don’t care about the passengers at all, because they know that “the people” have to fly. Oh, yes, they do! People will put up with any inconvenience, including sexual assault, $50 carry-on charges, $5 Cokes, and $15 blankets, just to get on these planes, and they know it. Have fun, people…this is not going to stop.

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 3:50pmThey can care less about the law— and those twitter messages show little outrage — the airline will continue to do as they please — sickening.

Posted on October 30, 2011 at 3:52pmThere is no excuse for trapping people in a metal tube and denying them food, water and access to bathrooms. My guess is that the airport is the issue rather than the airline, but even when airports are closed, they maintain bare bone operations and should be able to allow passengers off a plane.
