There is a time and place for everything, It should be taught but the most graphic part of it should be part of later history / social studies classes at the High school level. No sooner than 8th grade, Before that it should just highlight the over all facts, i.e Bin Laded Planned an attack that killed thousands of Americans on 9/11/2001

By BIGGEST peat peeve with people today is that no one is allowing kids to be kids, people think they need to be taught all of the bad things in life in Preschool, never giving children the chance to at least enjoy a few years of life before the harsh reality’s of the real world descend upon them.

When I was a kid (before High School) I did not have to worry about who the President was, what the economy was like, what terrorism was and how it effected me, No I was worried about learning basic Math, English, and Pre 1900 History etc, as well as Baseball, Basketball, Football, and Hanging out with Friends.

Kids Need time to be Kids

I disagree. I believe that treating kids as inferiors, as if they are incapable of dealing with graphic concepts or complex mathematics, is wrong. In fact, we see the product of this prolonged forced indolence in public schools. “Teenagers” used to be called “young adults”. However, at one point, a combination of progressives and workers interested in job security came up with the concept of the “teenager” as a sort of second-class adult incapable of full-adult responsibilities. They did so to keep young adults out of the job market, because they didn’t want younger workers taking their jobs for less.

I’m a college student. I can honestly say, there is absolutely no difference between my current mental ability now and my mental ability 10 years ago (junior high). There is, yes, a difference in my experiences. I am wiser now due to experience than I was then. However, I am just as capable mentally as I was then (in fact, in some ways, I was MORE capable then, because I didn’t have so many stresses to occupy my time and thought).

Sequestering children in a world of total safety, free of trauma, only sets them up to be entirely unprepared for the real world. Yes, we do need to prepare children to be adults. The purpose of childhood is not to be pain- and worry-free. It is not for having a decade or so of bliss and constant vacation, without responsibility. It is to learn how to be an adult, and do so in a safe environment with good p

Tiger cubs play at hunting. Puppies play at chasing prey. Children “play” at being adults. Its not the real deal, but they still need to learn how to do it, and insulating them from the knowledge of evil and pain in the world does them no favors.

Have to agree with Trooper — surprised at some of those reactions; but realize they’re mostly repeating what their parents/grandparents have said….like the one who said they tried with “words, but that doesn’t work”. ha!!! Yes, they’re a little too young to fully understand about it all & they seemed not to understand about why they hate us. Hope more parents will not only educate themselves but their children too bc they form opinions at this very early age that usually stick with them for the rest of their lives. Those twins were funny – lesson on complexity & diversity of people — they’re identical twins but had different ways of looking at it.

Its actually pretty simple, the reason why they hate and wish to destroy us. Neither the American people nor these kids has been told why. It is because we do not worship Allah. It is Islam’s ultimate goal to fight (Jihad) to bring the entire world under the control and influence of Islam. Not to convert everyone, but to kill those that stand in the way of this Islamic domination, and to subjugate all non-muslims (Kuffar).

If you told these kids the truth, that Bin Laden and others want to kill us all because we are not Muslim, and that its their goal for Islam to control the world, they would understand immediately. It is not a difficult concept.

In fact, most concepts that are described as difficult are not actually difficult. They are merely uncomfortable for people to think about. It is uncomfortable for people to consider that Islam motivates people to kill us if they have a preconceived notion (as many liberals do) that all religions are equally good and righteous. They are not, and this is evidenced by the vast and extensive history of Islamic-originated violence.

And as long as you don’t talk down to them, using baby talk and dumbing things down. The whole point of raising a child is to teach them. If you say something they don’t understand, they can ask you what it means, and that’s a teachable moment.

Even as a baby, my parents spoke to me like an adult. They never used baby talk. It apparently took me a long time to start talking, but when I did, I very quickly spoke in full sentences with an impressive vocabulary (this is all from what my folks have told me).

When you talk to your kids differently from how you talk to adults, it makes an impression on them that they’re somehow less capable than adults, and that inhibits their motivation to ask questions and learn. It also discourages them from trying to act more mature, because they perceive that they are held to a lower standard.

      But I digress…

Children don’t understand death as a grownup does. No one understands death unless you have been in battle and seen it close at hand, or a accident and seen victims at the scene. But to ask children how they feel about it is just wrong until they are old enough to really understand what you’re asking them. But this is just my opinion. Now if they ask you about it, that is different.

I think you’re wrong here. Every kid who has lost a pet understands death. That first death of a family pet for a child is as significant as the loss of a relative as an adult. As adults, we get used to losing pets, and the sting fades. But most certainly, children understand death. They may not be equipped to verbalize it or deal with it the way adults can, but they most certainly comprehend the finality of death.

(Note, I’m talking about children age 6 and up. Toddlers don’t comprehend death, because they’ve only just become self-aware. And not all children really comprehend it, but certainly those whose parents have raised them well do)

This is one part of the story most of us missed upon; to us in America and a lot of other places, the UBL was a terrorist, the ‘enemy numero uno’, or a fellow to emulate, depending on the views we each held at the time.

To his kids, he was still their father, just one most people wanted to eliminate.

THEY, lost a father; and justice was delivered upon him for his (UBL) crimes. May they learn from those lessons taught and make the good and right choices in their lives ahead.

My apologies, I wrote the post wrong, for some reason I was writing of UBL’s kids; for those here in America, I would just explain it to them as my nephew heard it from me when the first gulf war had begun…he was four at the time, and listening to the news of unfolding events, he asked me what was going on; I explained simply…a very bad man on the other side of the ocean needs to be stopped, and our soldiers are doing so. I also told him he is safe here at home from Saddam at the time.

Let’s face it though there are only so many Tomahawk missiles at 750K a clip which we can use to kill a few Taliwhackers and their camels before it begins to become a question of “Cost Efficiency??” You know even though the FED is devaluing the Dollar at break neck speed sooner or later we will have to pay our bills??

Having said that let’s remember that the Sovereign nation of Iraq did not attack us. Nor did they attack us in 1991. There’s an endless supply of bogeymen. A dime a dozen; however, remember America allied with perhaps the most vile monster to ever walk the earth in WW2. My beef is that today our leaders/Neo-Cons are randomly creating bogeymen which are no threat to the US and all it does is create more hatred for us and runs up our debt. Yet many benefit as a result of these policies at the expense of the average American. Furthermore, this policy is not the History of America. Americans would have not stood for this only a generation or two ago but now through the use of 24/7 Propaganda these policies have become standard operation procedure. We are being played on the grounds of Patriotism…
