So How Did Hank Williams Jr‘s Appearance on ’The View’ Go?

What makes Hank Williams Jr. must-see-TV is that he’s unpredictable. That’s probably part of the reason Fox had him on in the first place — and it paid off for the network. That’s also what made his appearance Tuesday on “The View” so addicting.

Williams chose “The View” for his first TV appearance since making an analogy involving Hitler and Obama. And while it was disjointed, awkward, and brash, it was entertaining.

Business Insider described it this way:

[T]he bewildered co-hosts were treated to a rant that was part history lesson, part vocabulary lesson, and no part apology.

Kind of like sitting on the porch with an ornery grandpa after his fourth Old Milwaukee.

HuffPo called it a “wild interview,” saying:

Williams gave “The View” some rather colorful responses about the controversy that seemed to do everything but answer the co-hosts’ questions directly. He even quoted Harry Truman about not kicking cow turds on a hot day. This caused Whoopi Goldberg to gaze skyward in a gesture of complete befuddlement. Joy Behar joked, “We used to say that in Brooklyn all the time!”

The following segment turns out to be a delightful piece of television programming of disparate sensibilities combined to discuss hyperbole, responsibility and the very definition of “meaning” itself (Jacques Derrida would be so proud!)

Sure, Williams probably left some to be desired. His answers to some of the questions were confusing and even contained a reference to a “cow turd.” But hey, he’s Bocephus. And in the end he reiterated that he didn’t compare Obama to Hitler, that he’s the one that decided to pull his song from ESPN, and really loves free speech.

    I still do not make the connection that Hank meant that PBO was the H!tl3r counterpart in the analogy….I thought he meant Boehner to be the H!tl3r counterpart in the analogy….Oh, I am not allowed to interpret the analogy the way I want to? Oh, that is right, the media has to tell me how to interpret things because I am not smart enough to think on my own.

      Even if he did compare Obama to Adolf, it is desedved. People just need to reiterate that his policies are eerily similar to the Austrian artist. After all, it is national socialism, which is what Obama espouses. In the beginning, the nazi platform did not include wiping a race off the map (before Mein Kampf). The comparison:

      National healthcare in Germany…..Check

      Took over German banks…..Check

      Took over an automobile company (VW)…..Check

      Aligned himself with equivelant of Wall St (steel, piano, coal magnates)……Check

      Raged against interest slavery (occupy Wall St + Obama)…..Check

      Created a citizen militia (Obama desired to)………Check

      Increased government spending….Check

      I’m still waiting for Obama to create government run vacation resorts to fill out the list.

      we watch megan kelly..sometimes….the beginning of o’reiley..

      we watched a few programs a couple of weeks after beck left…then the 5 with that dip liberal on there, slouchy, smart ass liberal beckel..we decided we had better things to do.

      JR is honest, down to earth a little raw..but, he stands by america..the view is a joke, we don’t watch it anymore either…TV is becoming limited these days.
      and….seems cain was the butt of all the jokes last night. yeah..gotta have a scape goat to look away from your failures in the campaign.
      christie has done nothing but been a loud mouth…i don’t understand what people see in him…i can make up my own mind about romney without him telling me how great he is..
      ESPN…unfortunately…they will not suffer from their decisions…americans are mind numbed sports fanatics..too bad they don’t take politics and policies as seriously.

      Just like H!tler set aside the German Constitution, Obama constantly sets aside the American Constitution. As a matter of fact, there’s another article in the Blaze that’s entitled, “Executive Dictatorship: Obama Instructs Advisers to Push Through Stimulus Projects Without Pesky ‘Congressional Authorization’” that details how Obama, once again, is subverting the Constitution.

      Obama ignores federal judges (e.g., drilling moratorium, Obamacare being ruled unconstitutional), he bends and twists the rules when he can’t get legislation passed (e.g., using reconciliation to pass Obamacare), he won’t protect America’s borders and sues states for trying to protect their citizens from being overwhelmed by illegal aliens, he started a war in Libya and thumbed his nose at the Constitutional requirement that he obtain Congressional approval, he gave money to the auto industry that was specifically legislated for the financial industry, he sold thousands of guns to criminals in Mexico who used those guns to murder Americans, and the list goes on and on and on. So why exactly do people object to the Hitler Obama comparison? Are we supposed to reserve such comparisons until Obama sets the Constitution completely aside after a “crisis” and then starts rounding up domestic terrorists (i.e., Tea Party types who have been identified as terrorists in PSAs by the Obama Administration)?

    Thankfully I kicked the cable TV monkey off my back in the 90′s; that’s right, just use an antenna; so I don’t have to ever worry about ESPN, FOX, MSNBC, et.al, or the cost of feeding that senseless addiction every month. Never turn the tube on until evening sometime after the evening news, so I don’t have to worry about The View, soap opera weepies or anything else. Get the news from AM radio and dailup internet. And no, I don‘t feel that I’m living an incomplete life no matter what Verizon, Dish Network, or whomever might think. A journey towards personal freedom just might start with canceling that cable contract.

I ditched or as GB would say kicked myself out of the system in February for different reasons–the dish I used would not advertise for GB on Fox and yesterday I saw an ad on this or GBTV site.       I agree. And while I do have most of the devices that palmettopalflorida claims not to, it’s awfully nice to read a good book every now and then with some decent, relaxing and uplifting music in the background. My Kindle offers the reading and iTunes offers a wide array of radio stations from which to choose. I believe we’re turning into a nation of over-educated yet under-motivated adolescents leading us down a dirt road to obscurity.     What did you expect from Hank? His job is to entertain and make you buy his songs. As far as his gross language, Whoopi says worse on a regular basis. I have never figured out the main point of the view. I watched it a couple of times and came away with question marks poised in the air above me. I don’t think there is a complete brain cell between any of the hostesses. Maybe when they invited him, they kicked a hot one!

      I am sure you are as aware of these facts as anyone on this site. If you support what is happening to this country then I would suggest that you are part of the problem as well.

      I am sure facts and stats mean little to people like yourself. Personally I do not go to sites that I know spew hate and viotril like Media Matters, Huff Post, etc. I would ever suggest that you get paid to espouse your disgust for the people on this site.

      Guess what, we appreciate you coming here and supporthing this site. The more comments the better for revenue. So even if you do support the people that wants to over throw the U.S.of A. your contributions to this site for increasing the number of posts is most welcome.

      I agree. I won’t even watch the clip on here. The View is vile to me that I just can’t stomach to watch any of it. Joy Behar makes me want to vomit so I absolutely REFUSE to give that show one second of my time. Its the BEST way I know to show my abhorrence to this type of “entertainment” is to completely boycott them, while not giving one dime to their sponsors. By the same token in my home I REFUSE to watch any program with Susan Sarandon, Johnny Depp and now Morgan Freeman. I really enjoyed his show on the Discovery channel too. Oh well, you can’t open your mouth and spout racist garbage without any repercussions. I certainly hope and pray that more American’s will use their TV/movie voices by doing the same thing. It wouldn’t take very long and these folks will keep their mouths shut and do what they do best, their TRADE, instead of running their mouths. They would lose more money then they could count and then figure out why, maybe, anyway. God bless all. “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess”
