OAKLAND — If the universe started with a big bang, Saturday’s non-rapture qualifies as a big whimper — or maybe just a big bust.
Though the tremendous earthquake and ascension into heaven of the faithful predicted by Doomsday prophet Harold Camping did not happen, there were lessons to be learned from the most-hyped non-event since Y2K.
“For those who were invested in this prediction, their world did end Saturday,” said Rev. Jeremy Nickel, the minister at Fremont’s Mission Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation. “They thought they were going to heaven, and they didn’t. They may have donated all their money. They’re going to be in a world of hurt.”

Members of churches near Oakland, Calif. based Family Radio, are pouring out in droves, offering comfort and spiritual support to the dejected followers of false Doomsday prophet Harold Camping, who has predicted that the World will end on May 21, 2011.
Family Radio President Camping, relying on Bible verses from Genesis 7:4 (“Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth”) and 2 Peter 3:8 (“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”), has come up with May 21, 2011 as the day when 200 million people will Rapture and the rest left behind will perish in a series of natural disasters, including violent earthquakes which would make Japan’s recent earthquake “look like a Sunday school picnic in comparison.” The world will be completely destroyed on October 21, 2011.
However, when no earthquake of magnitude greater than the one that struck Japan (9.0) took place on May 21, 2011, it soon became clear that Camping’s prediction was false and his followers became devastated.
For atheists, this could be an “I told you so” moment.
But that would be too easy. Almost too easy, anyway.
Instead of gloating, some atheists hoisted beers and called the latest failed prediction of Family Radio’s Harold Camping a lesson in human behavior.
“We know he’s not the first or the last who’s going to do this,” said Mike Gillis, a host and producer of the Seattle-area radio show Ask An Atheist on KLAY 1180 AM.
Gillis is one of a handful of atheists who planned a “rapture party” at Dorky’s Arcade in Tacoma. About 80 people RSVPed to the event on Facebook, saying they’d come listen to music and wait for confirmation that there wasn’t any rapture.
“I’m down,” one Facebook fan joked on the event listing. “But just until the looting starts.”

(5) For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches. (6) They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them. (7) In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion

There now, what have we learned from the Bible? Well, Judas hanged himself
Report Post »so I suppose we should go hang ourselves. You see Jesus said to do the same.

the Holy Scriptures, right?
Absolutely ridiculous!! But this is absolutely no different than what Harold Camping
has done with his ludicrous predictions so GROSSLY taken out of context. If we want
to waste our time we can make up number solutions based on words, chapters, verses
calendars, etc. etc. to make up any scenario we wanted to propagate. The same for
picking and choosing Bible verses to develop our own HERESIES from misinterpretation
and ignoring contextual accuracy.
Unfortunately it’s a giant discussing pity so many fell for it hook, line, and sinker!
Read your Bible, if you do not have one, get one find out the truth, it’s not that
hard to understand. Start with the Gospel of John and go from there.

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 3:15amMost people did find the prediction to be ridiculous. But after such an incredible amount of revenue went into advertising it, many were left unnerved. Even crazies with signs proclaiming the end gives some pause to reflect on the possibility of it.
We usually brush those predictions or declarations aside with ease. The sheer scope of the advertising that went into this shoved into our faces a bit, not to mention all the news and media coverage it has gotten.

Posted on May 23, 2011 at 9:27amClassicalLiberal,
You describe “classical religion” – man’s attempt to make himself “right w/ God“ or ”attone for his own sins”. Jesus Christ abolished religion. He declared (the Bible declares from start to finish) that it is God that makes man “right” w/ Himself. Starting in Genesis 3 after the fall when God declares war on Satan (the serpent) when He declares that seed (son) of the serpent would bruise the heel of the seed of the woman (1st reference to the Messiah & gives hint at virgin birth as ordinarily the seed comes from the male) but he would bruise the serpent’s head. Gen 3:15
God said the soul that sins shall die, & the wages of sin is death, & w/out the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Ezekiel 18:20, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 9:22 – & the entire levitical sacrificial system) Man lives under a death sentence from his failings.
Those that love Him (God), love Him because He first loved us (1st letter of John 4:19). And God showed His love toward mankind in that while we (mankind) were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8). Man cannot make himself right w/ God for w/out faith you cannot please Him (Heb 11:16). You are saved by failth in Jesus Christ the Messiah (Ephesians 2:8, John 3:16), and faith comes by hearing/reading the Word of God. Romans 10:17

Do you even know what you’re saying? I’m a Catholic, and I literally don’t know of even one person who bought into this crap. The world-wide Christian community thought that this guy was a nutjob, from the word go. Now, let’s talk about Muslims. It’s apparent that all the Muslims that you know, are the non-compliant type of Muslim. They don’t pray five times a day. They claim to be Muslims, but they are really “fallen away” Muslims.
I would hope that you know that being a Muslim, is not the same as being of any particular race. Although, you are probably unaware of this fact.
While there are millions of Muslims in the world, Christians still outnumber them, almost two to one. The Christian religion is the largest religious belief on Earth. Most of the Christians in the World just laughed at this guy’s “prediction”.

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 12:04pmFor those of you who keep saying read your bibles, read your bibles: Here are some bible references proving the Book of Mormon is part of the gospel and signs of the Second Coming.
The Lord told the Nephites of another sign: the Book of Mormon would come to their descendants (see 3 Nephi 21). In Old Testament times the prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel foresaw the coming of the Book of Mormon (see Isaiah 29:4–18; Ezekiel 37:16–20). These prophecies are now being fulfilled. The Book of Mormon has been brought forth and is being taken to all the world.
The Lord said, “Light shall break forth among them that sit in darkness, and it shall be the fulness of my gospel” (D&C 45:28). Prophets of old foretold the Restoration of the gospel. The Apostle John saw that the gospel would be restored by an angel (see Revelation 14:6–7). In fulfillment of this prophecy, the angel Moroni and other heavenly visitors brought the gospel of Jesus Christ to Joseph Smith.
The Lord said that when His coming was near, the Lamanites (the native americans) would become a righteous and respected people. He said, “Before the great day of the Lord shall come, … the Lamanites shall blossom as the rose” (D&C 49:24). Great numbers of Lehi’s descendants are now receiving the blessings of the gospel.

As in… “Seek Him while you can still find Him” because there will come a time when “they will seek Me (God speaking) and I will hide my face from them.”

This train is moving along at high-speed now.
With the ineptitude of our own gov. and the rest of the world coming un-hinged.. to me that equates to the train reaching that point where applying the brakes will no longer help.
Jesus said, “When you see all these things begin to occur.. Look up!, for your redemption draweth nigh.”
For the Lord shall descend from Heaven with a shout, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then!, WE WHO ARE ALIVE AND LEFT (living) “AT HIS COMING,” shall be caught up (the Rapture) with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.
What if it happens on Rosh Hashana, next year?, less than two months before the election.

I’m paying attention to the other signs and seeing how closely we are around Rosh Hashana, next year.
What “IF” we were Raptured around Aug.-Sept. of next year? Just sayin..
That’s RIGHT BEFORE the election.
How many of us really believe that our so-called leader is going up?
What are the odds that ‘if’ he doesn’t “accompany” us.. that he declares a state of emergency and enacts a boat-load of executive orders, suspending the Constitution (formally this time, not funny!), and just tells the people remaining that, “This is too serious to be having an election at this time. I‘m just going to continue on as President until we ’get a handle on this new turn of events.’”?!
Good luck with that if you miss the REAL rapture. Yikes!

Interesting stuff there. To be honest though, it won’t happen like that. We can not estimate the day of his coming.
Also, a slight error there. Your math is based off of the idea that 1 god day = 1000 years on earth. However that should not be taken as exact. For example, in the bible the number 40 appears alot, 40 days and 40 nights etc. That is not to be taken as EXACTLY 40 days, as it was more like saying a really long time. So in the same essence, 1 god day does NOT equal exactly 1000 years on earth, that was just a really big number to choose from. Instead it really means that is is incomprehensible to the human mind. That is not to say however that the coming of the lord is not nigh. Because it is. We just won’t be able to figure it out exactly. People have been trying to use math to figure the coming of christ since the earliest days of the church.

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 7:47amI am a Christian, and NEVER believed this bloated ego of a man for one nano-second! If one reads the Bible, and knows it’s message, how could believe that false prophet? To paraphrase:
Jesus said, no one, but God Himslef will know the day or the hour of my second coming!
Jesus said, I will come like a thief in the night!
Jesus said, beware of the false prophets, there will be many!
So I say unto you, believers and non-believers, who believed this liar, all of your angst, all of your worldly worries are for NOTHING! All you have to do is have a belief in Jesus Christ, be saved in Him, and turn your back on SIN, on EVIL, and to spread His Word.
Yea tho I walk thru the valley of death, I shall fear no evil, for thy rod and thy staff shall comefort me.
It is THAT SIMPLE my friends, yet you make it so complicated. Christians have a guide to life in the Bible, what do the athiests have? NOTHING, they have air, they have man’s reason of treason, that is all. Yes, the time will come, but NO ONE will know when it comes, it may not happen for a mellinia, or it may happen in a minute, but the simple point is – no one can predict the simply complex logic of God. And as a final note, alahu akbar is not a God, the religion of peace is a copy cat non-religion, same for hinduism, buddism and the rest, there is only ONE TRUE GOD, and he is a loving God, and he is a merciless God, He is all knowing and will judge EVERYONE someday.

Posted on May 22, 2011 at 8:53amThe problem with this rapture occuring before the tribulation is that when it doesn’t happen, there will be people who lose faith because of it. When that happens then whoever taught them in the pre-trib rapture which caused them to lose faith will be held accountable for false teaching and that person having lost their faith will lose their way into Heaven along with the person that mislead them by false teaching. Whoever causes someone to lose their way due to false teaching shall also lose their place in Heaven. Look at 2 Corintians I believe it is 15:52-53 where it says that on his return all people will be transformed and taking up to fight with Him on the last Trumpet Call. The last Trumpet Call means the last one and the one that sounds when He returns IS the LAST trumpet call. He returns after the tribulation. Whether people wish to believe or not, there is no way that I would teach pre-trib because of the possiblilty that if I was wrong, I could lead someone astray and therefore lose my way into Heaven as well but that wouldn’t be as bad as me causing anyone else to lose their way.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
maybe what our carnal mind thinks of as clouds isn’t what God was speaking of. Remember mountains mean nations. People need to start doing some studying before they start believing everything the Catholic church feeds them. Rapture is a latin word, by the way.

Pay attention to the subtile details.
It is Faith, Hope and LOVE.
A true prophet of God is 100% correct, 100% of the time.
In the days of the Prophets, those who were not, were to be stoned to death.
That culled the herd of “their-own-mind” false prophets.
There is a REASON there hasn’t been a Prophet since the Apostles.
The living sacrifice is the complete sacrifice, the lamb of God, without blemish
“For this is my body and this is the chalice of my blood, of the new and eternal testament, the mystery of faith, which has been shed for you, and for MANY unto the remission of sins”
You will note He did not say ALL are saved. That is false, as is the baptism of desire aka “good” people are saved.
In Issiah, God says that when you and He offer his sacrifice, it will be accepted for the remission of sin.
Matt 7:21-23- “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Interesting brother, intrigueing & well exposited. But I’d like to add it could also be tomorrow — or today for that matter. All that was (for the most part) certain is it was not going to be May 21 2011 nor will it be Dec 21 2012.
No man knows the day or hour, not even the angels, and apparently not even the SON! (through whom all things were made – John 1), but the Father alone. (Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32).
Point: The early church had a fervent expectancy that Christ (Jesus) would return at any moment. There are lots of signs given (& many now present) for the day of vengeance of our God (tribulation) – Isa 61:2, & believers do well to look up, but there are no signs given for the rapture (caught up) – meaning the closer we get to the great & terrible day of the Lord (Joel 2:11, 31) the less our excuse for not being ready for the “catching up” to meet our Lord. Brothers and sisters in Christ (all of us who call on the Name of Jesus/Yeshua) – we do well to ensure our lamps are filled w/ oil (Matthew 25:1-13). Are we filled w/ the HS? Does He know us? That is the eternal question. We do well to take inventory of our lives (Rev 2-3). Seak & follow the Good Shepherd – His return for the Church will not come when we expect, therefore we need to be always at the ready.
Our leaders (incl the President) are being moved by the Will of God to accomplish His purpose (Exo 14:8, Duet 2:30, Ezra 6:22, Prov 21:1). Yes, Look UP! Grace & peace to al
