Who‘s Footing the Bill for the Obama Family’s Estimated $4 Million Hawaii Vacation?

So, just how much will President Barack Obama’s Hawaiian vacation cost this year? That‘s a question that can’t be definitively answered until the costs are in and the trip has concluded, but an assessment of the numbers shows that it will likely be the 44th president’s most expensive vacation to date.
The Hawaii Reporter has estimated that travel, alone, will cost $3,629,622 — a startlingly large figure considering the length of the trip. And, yes, in case you were wondering: Taxpayers will be footing a chunk of the bill. After all, it‘s not cheap to ensure that the world’s most powerful leader is safe as he travels and enjoys time away from the grind.
To begin, the family is traveling separately, as Obama has had plenty to wrap up in Washington, D.C. before the holidays (i.e. the payroll tax cut drama). So, First Lady Michelle Obama already left for the family’s tropical getaway — a $100,000 expenditure, including personnel, travel and security.
Obama’s round-trip flight to Hawaii on Air Force One is estimated to be the largest expense associated with the vacation. According to the Air Force, it apparently costs $181,757 per flight hour to run the nation’s most secure (and probably its most lavish) aircraft. Thus, the total for the nine-hour trip from Washington to Hawaii and then back again will come in at $3,271,611.
And let’s not forget that a USAF C-17 cargo plane is also needed to bring Presidential limos, helicopters and other essentials along. This, too, comes at the tune of thousands of dollars. Plus, there’s security for the president and his family. A team of between four and six Marine Corps will travel along on a separate flight and require per diem and hotel, coming in at $258,000 (estimated).
The Obamas do cover the expense for their own private beach-front home in Kailua, Oahu, which costs up to $3,500 per day ($75,000 per month). However, taxpayers are responsible for housing monies associated with the U.S. Secret Service, Coast Guart and Navy Seals. There are seven houses needed to accommodate these individuals, which amounts to about $21,600 per home.
And these are only some of the costs. There are plenty of other numbers that can be crunched as well — including the local taxpayers‘ burden for services needed during the president’s stay — but the total expense for the vacation, according to the Reporter, will be $4,113,038 (estimated).

I think if 4 weeks is good enough for the troops its good enough for the Comander in Chief dont you. You pretty much said it. You made me remember some management book about how some CEOs just kept their reality away from what was happening to their companies. While their companies were scrambling to survive, they just kept their corporate jets, the personal spending at company’s expense, etc. They didn’t feel accountable of the company’s situation, and believed that their benefits were entitlements attached to their positions, not to their performance as managers or even to the lame figures. That could be true, but it’s also true that an inspiring leader tries to set an example himself, and tries to show empathy with his employees during the difficult times. If you see the CEO bringing his lunch every day, you probably feel the obligation to save some dollars for the company using less office supplies.
The position has its entitlements, but seeing Barry trying to save some taxpayer’s money would be very nice for your country in these difficult times, and the people would feel their President’s support if he has only three vacations a year, instead the four or five he’s having, and at least without the spoiled over expenses caused by Michelle Antoinette’s disdain. They could have a nice time in Camp David, at a relatively smaller cost, but not, they only like the far and expensive Asian : ) Hawaii (The 57th state :) ).

When President Obama takes his wife out to eat, or buys a dog for his children, or takes a trip anywhere, or goes to eat at a restaurant, Republicans mock him and rail about the cost to the tax payer, as though no other President did any of those things. Okay, the media is appealing to your hatred of the President of the United States, but I expect better of those here who claim to have some brains.
You read posts here that say that Bush was really working on this vacation but President is not. I’ve got news for you, all Presidents work when they are on vacation. And Bush allowed only photographs of him chopping wood, as though he went to Crawford to chop some wood but otherwise it wasn’t really a vacation. If you want to believe that, okay, whatever. But face it. Those who claim that Bush worked on his vacations and President Obama does not, you must realize you’re just making that up. You have no way of knowing how much a President is working on vacation.
Folks, Bush was on vacation 1/3 of his time in office, three time what President Obama has taken. During his time in office he took 77 trips to his 4000 ft. house in Crawford, 149 trips to Camp David and 11 trips to Kenebunkport. He was working I’m sure, but he was away from the White House a lot, and those trips cost Americans a lot more than Obama has.

I’ve lived so far under 11 Presidents. I could give you a long list of why I don’t like him, but one thing that is NOT on my list… his skin color. His skin color has NOTHING to do with how I feel about him, but pretty much everything else about the man makes me ashamed to have him as the President of the USA! In answer to your question, if you use the FINAL cost estimate at the end of the article, we could feed 26,734,737 meals with his vacation money. Makes me want to throw up. As a food bank, we have refused to apply for or accept any form of grant associated with the government. We struggle for every single penny we received. I have a director who is serious about being a good steward with the $s we are given responsibility for. Our admin costs run right at 2.6%. Too bad the government can’t take a clue and use our $s that well. I haven’t had a vacation in years and years…can’t afford one. The crap about him having a hard job, blah blah blah is just that…blah blah, blah. Not sure when he has actually taken time off for work. Probably fortunate for us, because when he actually does, the results are horrifying.
