‘SOBs United’: Tea Party Members Protest Hoffa Union Worker Rally

Teamsters President James Hoffa led a rally of union members in Puyallup, Wash. Friday, but was also met with some local Tea Party opposition protesting his “son of a bitches” Labor Day remark.
According to the Sky Valley Chronicle, Hoffa was in town to support grocery warehouse workers fighting for a new contract. The Teamsters want the Fred Meyer distribution center to subsidize their health care premiums.
Workers chanted “Teamster power!” and waved signs that read, “Quality health care now!” A Fred Meyer spokeswoman said the Teamsters‘ health plan doesn’t meet new standards.
“No incentives for being healthy, for being involved in your healthcare, for taking care of yourself,” the spokeswoman said.
When Hoffa spoke, he condemned Fred Meyer for its “organized effort against organized labor,” and repeated part of his anti-Tea Party refrain, declaring its members are waging a “war on workers” and trying to “crush unions.”
Hoffa, who repeatedly defended his comments this week, told local media outlets he is still “very proud of what [he] said” on Labor Day.
“Anytime someone tries to take away the rights of Americans for collective bargaining, anyone trying to take away Social Security, I’ll call them names anytime I want,” Hoffa told KOMO News.
Meanwhile, Leon Donahue was one of those on hand nearby from the Washington Tea Party Movement to protest Hoffa.
Tea Party members waved American flags and held signs proclaiming their collective “SOB” title.
“I’m opposed to a man who is supposed to be dignified and so powerful calling us sons of bitches,” Donahue said.

Posted on September 10, 2011 at 6:28pmI’m not a liberal commie, yet I’ll tell all the old folks that they are going to lose their social security. I have to if I am to be honest with them and myself. Social security’s “trust fund” is full of IOU’s or if you prefer, government bonds. And the only reason anyone issues a bond is to spend the principal and in a set term repay it with interest. Unfortunately in the case of government, it took generation A‘s money and spent it on generation A and now generation B has to pay more to pay for generation A’s retirement.
It is nothing but a way to increase the taxes they collect and in doing so they are destroying the wealth of our nation. If everyone who receives soc. sec. would have put 10% of their pay back each month (the current witholding is ~15% when you count the employer paid portion which still comes out of your pay whether or not you realize it) and invested it they would all be far better off and so would our society as a whole. Private investment helps those who invest and those who are invested in. Government spending just makes us poorer after a certain point and it has never created a job that actually needed to be done.

Every year that was a presidential election year, they pressured their employees with scare tactics to get them to vote for the left. Last november he unwisely let it slip that “anyone who would vote for a democrat is an idiot”. Days later he was fired and never given an explanation. Another gentleman was also fired. He was told that the reason for his being fired was because of “who your friends are”, referring to my husband. Now one of the millwright union workers pays for things such as having his house painted, and has bought two four wheelers by two union employees by paying them overtime hours that they didn’t work. That money was paid to these gentleman by the company that was contracting them out. The business agent and 2 other people in management were made aware of this but simply covered it up and said nothing. Not only did they fire my husband, but they have prevented him from getting jobs elsewhere. My husband has been on two interviews and both times he was told that certain members of the union told them not to hire him. The union is just as it has always been. A bunch of thugs. Jimmy Hoffa is no better than his father. Too bad whoever took his father out didn’t take him with him.

You’re mistaken bro. I’m in a construction union and I know other believers who are also. We work as unto God reguardless of who the boss or the contractor is. When other workers are complaining and being slackers we take up the slack by continuing to work hard and trying to motivate others to do what’s right and earn their days wages. Being a union member doesn’t mean we have to approve of or participate in the ungodly behaviour and additudes. From what I’ve seen on multiple job sites working along side of many different trades, most union members are regular people just like you…not troublemakers like we are seeing in these stories lately. Many of us would refuse, avoid, or evade participating in demonstrations, destruction, or defaming people and companies which are non union.

Report Post »I had to give my single HC coverage up after I became widowed…..even on group rate, it rose to $700 a month for PPO. With 2 jobs, I still had to choose HC or a roof over my head. I considered being the healthiest homeless person, but decided on a roof over my head. These union people have it made.

And I am not put in a position that made me quit as I was in the union. I was told I had to picket a print shop for two days, that ended up with the lowest bid on a job that was union printed the year before. All my buddy’s worked at the shop I was told to picket. All honest and Integrity people. I had seen so much bad in the 5 years I worked in union printing that I still ask for forgiveness for not getting out after one week.

Health Care is not the responsibility of the company. If you want health care, you pay for it. Companies are there to make profit – pure and simple. Through that profit, workers EARN a living wage and then it is through the freedom of that worker to spend their money as they wish. If they mismanage their funds, then so be it. If they suffer as a result of their mismanagement then chalk it up to another “learning experience” and they again have the freedom to to be self-reliant and turn things around.
