Socialist Party USA to Rick Perry: Stop Calling Obama a Socialist!

The socialist label attached to President Barack Obama’s name has been floating around for some time. On Sunday, it re-emerged when Texas Gov. Rick Perry made the familiar accusation during the NBC News GOP presidential debate in New Hampshire.
“I make a very proud statement, and of fact, that we have a president thats a socialist,” Perry said Sunday.
“I disagree with that premise that somehow or another, that Obama reflects our founding fathers. He doesn’t.”
Authorities on the matter are now taking aim at Perry’s “fairy tale” claims.
“The notion that Barack Obama is a socialist ranks among the greatest fairy tales in American society — right up there with the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the idea that if you work hard enough your children will live a better life than you,” Socialist Party USA spokeswoman Lynn Lomibao said in an email to The Huffington Post.
“Socialists know what Obama is: another corporate funded politician placed in the White House to protect the wealth and status of the 1 percent,” the e-mail continued. ”When Americans needed a solution to mass unemployment, Obama gave away billions in cash to bail out the banks. When Americans needed a single-payer healthcare system, Obama promoted a pro-health insurance healthcare ‘reform’ package that forced millions into junk healthcare plans subsidized by public funds. And when American workers asked for the right to join a union without employer harassment through the Employee Free Choice Act, Obama showed who he really answers to by betraying the promises he made to working people during his campaign.”
PolitiFact weighed in on the matter, examining whether Perry’s claim was fact, ultimately ruling the statement to be a “Pants on Fire!” lie:
“After the debate, PolitiFact National explored the question of whether Obama is in fact a socialist, comparing the president’s tax policies and major initiatives with this definition of socialism: support for ‘governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.’ The upshot: Obama policies such as the health care law and the economic stimulus add up to flimsy evidence for even beginning to show that he’s a socialist.
Conservative economist Bruce Bartlett told PolitiFact: ‘Socialism means public ownership of the means of production. Obama does not believe this. Therefore he is not a socialist. … Although it is true that the federal government did come to own some private businesses as a consequence of bailout policies initiated by the George W. Bush administration such as (the Troubled Asset Relief Program), the Obama administration sold many of them — such as its shares in GM — as quickly as feasible. A true socialist would have held on to them.’
Put to the Truth-O-Meter, Perry’s claim rates as ridiculous. Obama’s policies may have expanded government, but they don’t justify the hyperbole of Perry’s charge. Pants on Fire!“
Perhaps Socialist Party USA candidate for President Stewart Alexander will have the opportunity to debate Gov. Perry about his definition of socialism.

We need to put someone back on the free-market standard and that would probably come from either Paul, minus his foreign policy or Romney, who is all business. Ginrich and Perry seem to be attacking the free market and capitalism so they could be out. I think another person to be praised for not attacking capitalism is Rick Santorum. So thank goodness for the capitalists in this race. We need someone who can return the grandeur of capitalism, which means a return of our economy.
I am still a Romney fan http://www.TeaPartyForRomney.com, but I support those that praise capitalism, as well.

There are two Mormons and two Catholics (and very slimy ones at that), and evangelical Christians are supporting them?!?!
I think it should be pointed out that Paul is the only evangelical in the running. Also, most Christians are not aware of the fact that Ron Paul will be, in his own words, the most pro-life President in history. It’s also important to point out that by cutting all foreign aid, Paul will be helping Israel, since we currently give more money to Israel’s enemies than we give to Israel.

They’re short-sighted, though. Obummer hasn’t gone full Socialist because he wanted to get reelected. He knew (as the rest of us did) that if he went full on where we all know he wants to go, he’d never be reelected.
The catch is, he went far enough to get him waxed in the 2010 midterms and possibly 2012 too. If he wins reelection, he’s not likely to have a Congress that will give him an inch. It’ll be the longest lame duck period in Presidential in history.

Companies like Krupp managed to retain their private ownership just so long as they did what Hitler wanted. This is Obama to a tee. Obamacare is designed to become a government program. As companies learn that it is cheaper to throw their employee’s off their health plans, pay the fine and let their workers join the government program the private health care companies will go out of business and then government will be ‘forced’ to pick up the pieces. Apparently you haven’t noticed the cost of health care has skyrocketed out of control. The US corporations care only about profit, not about the worker. If “we the people” need to take care of each other with things like medicaid for all and social security. If you are counting on the corporations to look after you with a pension in your old age or to provide health insurance, then you are truly misinformed.

I‘m sure you have opinions that are shared by groups that you don’t embrace the totality of, or even close to it. I believe that Sharia Law, for example, is an abomination, and if I thought for a moment that it was an actual possibility in the USA, or that the majority of Muslims were interested in it at all, then I’d be very perturbed. However, it isn’t, and they’re not, so I don’t worry about it, beyond feeling bad for those who ARE trapped in its clutches, or in fear of its encroachment in their countries.

All are supposed to work for the collective, that to me defines Socialism/Communism. SOCIALISM/ COMMUNISM doesn’t believe in the Individual. The Individual doesn’t have the right to prosper, without sharing their prosperity with others less fortunate. Our current President doesn’t believe in the single individual making a difference, but that the “individual” is supposed to work to take care of collective (others). If that Individual does NOT share willingly, the it is the Government’s responsibility to take from that person, and give it to others. He believes in the Government is the answer to all issues.
I believe America’s uniqueness. I believe in the Individual, not the “collective.” One person CAN make a profit, and doesn‘t have to share if if he doesn’t choose to. One person DOES have the right to become rich, without others trying to steal what he has earned…….

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 2:16pmAbsolutely, Obama is no socialist… although I disagree with socialism as a way to run the country at a whole, such as in a communist country, and I think the idea of things like tarrifs are nuts, I think that basic rights, such as education, healthcare, and law enforcement, should be provided by the state in this way. I’m not sure about transport and utilities, I tend to think that the infrastructure should be state owned and maintained, and the businesses using them should be heavily regulated. But that’s just me. Attack away, Blazers!

And the right to internet, cable news + TV (Britain does this with the tax-funded BBC), central air, perhaps a car for transportation, etc.
There are only three natural,.God-given rights – life, liberty, and property (aka the pursuit of happiness). You have the right to your life, and no one can take it from you by force. You have the right to liberty, defined by Jefferson as freedom of will and action, limited only by the equal rights of other people. And the right to own and protect your property from force and fraud, and further to use it in accordance with your wishes (as per your right to liberty). Everything the government does that is not to uphold these rights (and it does a LOT of that now) is a violation of freedom and morally illegitimate.
