Somali Kids Win Weapons, Religious Books in Koran Recital Contest

A Somali radio station run by the al Qaeda-linked al-Shabab militia is allegedly awarding rifles, bombs and religious books to three children in a Quran recital contest.

Andalus radio station announced Monday that the first prize winner in the contest received a rifle and $700, the second prize winner was awarded a rifle and $500, and the third prize winner received two bombs.

All three children also reportedly received religious books.

Ynet News adds:

Al-Shabab is battling Somalia’s weak, UN-backed government. The militants have recently been weakened by famine in territory they control.

Somalia has been plagued by violence and religious extremism, with a leader of the country’s Islamist insurgency threatening late last year to attack the United States.

“We tell the American President Barack Obama to embrace Islam before we come to his country,“ said Fuad Mohamed ”Shongole” Qalaf.

And if Somali children are rewarded for their study of the Quran with weaponry and even more religious texts, this type of extremism could be perpetuated for years to come.

    The United States is reported to be expanding a secret drone program in east Africa and the Arabian peninsula in order to gather intelligence and strike al-Qaida-linked militants in Somalia and Yemen.

    Citing U.S. defense officials, The Washington Post reported that the U.S. is building a new military installation to host the unmanned aircraft in Ethiopia, where drones can more easily attack members of the militant group al-Shabab that is fighting for control of neighboring Somalia.

    The report also said the U.S. has re-opened a drone base in the Seychelles, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, where a small fleet of “hunter-killer” drones resumed operations this month after a test mission determined that aircraft based there could patrol Somalia.

    In addition, the report said the Central Intelligence Agency is building a secret airstrip somehwere in the Arabian subcontinent in order to carry out drone missions against al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

      @ KRPTONITE….Wallid Shoebat…(named changed to protect his life) is an ex- PLO terrorist., turned Christian . He repeatedly warned before the 2008 elections what was happening here. He warned that the main terrorists training Mosques were located in or around Chicago. But with over 2000 Mosques here in the states..I am sure there are more.

Notice how you don’t see Christians toting guns in mass in order to kill people with other beliefs. Nor do we belittle our women, teach our children to kill or cut off heads.     Lot’s of jokes on this one. I can think of a lot more. Problem is that this is the kind of evil we are facing. When my son joined the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division I almost had a heart attack. I am proud but I damn sure would prefer he had chosen another line of work!

      Then you were a good role model, i tried with my step son he went to iraq with a engineer battalion and cracked felt sorry for the kid i told him being shot at wasn’t for everybody tried hard to help him thru but i guess we are all diffrent..

      I taught my kids and my grandkids about guns and taught them to shoot. I had as houseful of guns and they needed to know gun safety and how to use them.
      I also took them hunting (including my daughter the best shot of the bunch) and to the range taught them everything from Pistols to revolvers to rifles to showguns. They all own and use different weapons, My daughter has followed in the footsteos of her father and step mother and has a CHL and carries a Glock 23.
      Love it – let the muslims bring it own – I’m 70YOA but can still hit a target at 200 yards.

      They teach their young about guns & bombs, shooting & killing when they’re in their teens. Our kids are too busy playing x box & texting useless messages to their friends. I’d like to take my sons phone / text thingie & shove it up his nostril sometimes. I frequently ask him What the hell could be that important? You’d think he was a head of state with all the messages he gets.
