Somali Pirates Execute 4 American Hostages

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates off East Africa were shot and killed by their captors Monday, the U.S. military said, marking the first time U.S. citizens have been killed in a wave of pirate attacks plaguing the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean for years.
U.S. naval forces, who were trailing the Americans’ captured yacht with four warships, quickly boarded the vessel after hearing the gunfire and tried to provide lifesaving care to the Americans, but they died of their wounds, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement.
Two pirates died during the confrontation and 13 were captured and detained, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement from Tampa, Fla. The remains of two other pirates who were already dead for some time were also found. The U.S. military didn’t state how those two might have died.
Negotiations had been under way to try to win the release of the two couples on the pirated vessel Quest when the gunfire was heard, the U.S. military said.
The Quest was the home of Jean and Scott Adam, a couple from California who had been sailing around the world since December 2004 with a yacht full of Bibles. The two other Americans on board were Phyllis Macay and Bob Riggle, of Seattle, Washington.
“We express our deepest condolences for the innocent lives callously lost aboard the Quest,” said Gen. James N. Mattis, U.S. Central Command Commander.
In total the U.S. said that 19 pirates were involved in the hijacking of the Quest.
Only minutes before the military said the four Americans had died, a Somali pirate told The Associated Press by phone that if the yacht was attacked, “the hostages will be the first to go.”
“Some pirates have even suggested rigging the yacht with land mines and explosives so as the whole yacht explodes with the first gunshot,” said the pirate, who gave his name as Abdullahi Mohamed, who claimed to be a friend of the pirates holding the four Americans.
Graeme Gibbon-Brooks, the head of Dryad Maritime Intelligence, said he was confounded by the turn of events.
“We have heard threats against the lives of Americans before but it strikes me as being very, very unusual why they would kill hostages outright,” he said, adding that the pirates must realize that killing Americans would invite a military response.
The military said U.S. forces have been monitoring the Quest for about three days, since shortly after the pirate attack on Friday. Four Navy warships were involved, including an aircraft carrier.
Last week a Somali pirate was sentenced to 33 years in prison by a New York court for the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama, a U.S. cargo vessel. That hijacking ended when Navy sharpshooters killed two pirates holding the ship’s captain.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 10:04amThe first WAR America fought against RADICAL ISLAM was in 1805 the Barbary Coast Wars.
In March 1785, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams went to negotiate with Tripoli’s envoy in London, Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdrahaman (or Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja). Upon inquiring “concerning the ground of the pretensions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury”, the ambassador replied:
It was written in their Qu’ran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every Muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy’s ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once

No. They were pirating.
A rapist causes terror in his victim(s). He’s not a terrorist, he’s a rapist.
A murderer causes terror in his victim(s). He’s not a terrorist, he’s a murderer.
A child molester causes terror in his victim(s). He’s not a terrorist, he’s a child molester.
Words mean something. Calling anything that might frighten other people “terrorism” takes the punch out of the word and makes everything into nothing in one fell swoop. Real terrorism is something very distinct and well defined, namely, non-military individuals using violence or threats of violence in order to affect political change in a society. It is not piracy, nor people who commit manslaughter, nor rape, nor child molestation.
Words have meanings.

Reading this article left me more incensed than anything I’ve read in a long time.
1) Blaming the victims ‘for being there’ is like blaming a carjack victim for driving in the city.
2) I thank God our Navy was there so at least these terrorists did not get away with it.
3) I‘d like to see them ’returned’ by helicopter to their camps (visible on Google Earth) but they can cover the last 1,000 vertical yards without a parachute – as a warning to others.
4) I regret we told the world how many we captured because now we’ll have to account for all them. I’d still return them aerially
5) They were clearly caught in the act – there’s no need for an expensive “trial” & incarceration (see next paragraph)
I‘ll never forget reading back in the 1970’s when airliner hijacking first became ‘popular’, that the Saudi’s stormed a plane that had been hijacked and was being refueled in Saudi Arabia. They captured most of the hijackers alive. All the passengers were then removed from the plane except the hijackers. The Saudi soldiers wrapped towels around the necks of the restrained hijackers and slit their throats right there in their seats. They never got off the plane alive despite the fact that the hijackers were Muslim (if I remember correctly). I don’t remember anyone howling about the hijackers’ rights being violated… I remember admiring the Saudis for that.
I doubt that modern Somali pirates are doing this in the name of Allah or because they are Muslim’s acting on their beliefs, but I still think they have done their Muslim brothers a huge amount of harm by reminding us of how barbaric Muslims can be. The word “barbaric” became entered our lexicon as a word because of the actions of the old pirates of the Barbary coast – referred to in 79USMC83’s earlier post.
Too many Independent-Americans have been dozing off again since 9/11, lulled by the lamestream media’s love for their fellow America-haters in the Muslim world… but it is difficult for anyone reading this story not to catch a glimpse of the truth behind this story – that neither Islam nor Communism has done much to feed or advance the nations that are under its subjugation. If it were not for the West’s thirst for their oil, they’d still be riding camels and living in desert tents. Nothing wrong with that – it just doesn’t hasn’t much for the people starving in Somalia who are turning to piracy in the absence of any useful government.
A personal friend of mine was killed on Flight 103 over Lockerbie, nearly destroying the lives of his widow and three orphans . I hope that when Gaddafi falls we will go in and re-capture Abdelbaset al-Megrahi –the terrorist convicted of the bombing. Let’s also collect all of Libya’s records on that bombing and bring true justice for the heinous act that killed 270 people from 21 nations and brought terrible pain and suffering to all of their families.
The killing of innocents is called “barbaric” for a reason.
The killing of terrorists and murderous pirates is called “prevention”.
Let’s do all we can to make damned sure these things can’t happen again

“U.S. naval forces, who were trailing the Americans’ captured yacht with four warships, quickly boarded the vessel after hearing the gunfire and tried to provide lifesaving care to the Americans, but they died of their wounds…”
WHAT? TRAILING THEM??????? QUICKLY BOARDED THE VESSEL AFTER hearing the gunfire?????? WHAT?
Okay…trying to contain my rage here…LAY ANOTHER TRAVESTY AT THE feet of the Commander in Chief!!!!!!!!!!!! He is either the most incompetent President in US history or he is the most dangerous? YOU DECIDE! Obama was waiting to have them arrested so that they could be brought to our country and tried in civilian courts?! …I used to believe that those who thought this man was a Muslim “sleeper” were just crazy…I don’t think that anymore! Who is OUR ENEMY? Radical Muslims…How do you know the difference between moderate Muslims and Radical Muslims? YOU DON’T…He is aiding and abetting the enemy! Where are the investigations…where? There need to be investigations NOW!

I seriously doubt if they are any smarter about their “cause” than the foolish kids in Wisconsin who are given a placard to giggle and “march in protest” about something they have no idea about! They are truly useful idiots, albiet very, very dangerous! I wish our “dear leader” had the skill to deal with the affront to our country, but that will NOT happen. He is impotent when it comes to leadership.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 5:29pm@Florida *******. We CAN own automatic weapons! You must have a special license from ATF or HLS that license makes you give up your rights and allows warrantless searches of your home and person. Here in Utah, I can go to the range and rent autos including a Barrett 50 cal. Very fun!!!! At $5.00 a round it gets pricey in a hurry.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 5:32pmAnd what of the pirates? two already dead from recent past (smell must have been wonderful) and two others died on board and 13 captured. HELLO! Why the results were not 15 pirates dead following the execution of the four women is beyond me — then again, I’m sure they were acting under orders from DC not to hurt them or harm their rights guaranteed under our US Constitution.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 7:34pmWhen I look at the map where the “Pirates/terrorists captured the Quest, due south of Omen. Well over 240k/miles from Somalia. They left Mumbai India in hope of not to be noticed. The article sites that on of the Pirates/Terrorists were in conversation with “Associated Press” before and during the entire episode.
Report Post »THE FACTS:
1. The Pirates/Terrorists KNEW the Quest was coming and KNEW where to look for them.
a. This can only mean that there was a hit put out on them.
2. The Pirates/Terrorists where well provisioned.
a. They had 17 men all armed.
b. They had land mines.
c. They had a plan
d. They had direct communication with a news wire service.
3. When it became apparent that the Pirates/Terrorists would not receive their payoff the murdered the two couples.
(foot note) two of their fellow Pirates/Terrorists had died “some time ago.” This is yet another clue dropped by the news filters.
Questioning the Pirates/Terrorists by what ever means necessary before they can be “rescued” from the Navy would elevate the hope that the real puppet masters would be brought to Justus.
We have seen what will happen when these thugs step on U.S. soil.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 8:25pmThis only shows how Obama has weakened the US standing in the world. This would not have happened if Obama would have remained a protector of the US and her citizens. Islamists know that he will not do anything so there is nothing lost to them except a few pirates (muslim extremists). Let’s be real.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 8:57pmWell, I think our navy should chase the pirates with a gun in each hand and a knife in their mouth and use them all on the pirates when they catch them. Why do we even try to talk to them. Our ships could sink their in one shot and that would be the end of that POS. If we treated them the way they intend to treat our people that would be the end of it. Stop using this political correctness CR@P!

Posted on February 23, 2011 at 11:39amYour right we can’t negotiate with terrorist. So I want to know when is Obama to going man-up and do what he usually does to our enemies and start apologizing for being America? That will show those wacky Muslim Jihadi Pirates that he means business and not do mess around with us.
Teddy Roosevelt had it all wrong when he said “speak softly and walk with a big stick”. Our Modern day President has it right, speak loudly with apology and bow down to the foreign kings of our enemies.
I mean what is wrong with those Christian sailors spreading those bibles around the world anyway? After all, Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance. Dare those evil Americans try and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Didn’t Obama say, we are not a Christian nation and have one of the largest Muslim populations in the world? This is what happens when the simple masses do not follow what our fearless leader says.
