Some U.S. servicemen are up in arms after a large cross was removed from outside a chapel on a military base in northern Afghanistan. The base, called Camp Marmal, is German and hosts NATO forces. The chapel in question is an interfaith house of worship that is overseen by the U.S. Army.
Soldiers say that they felt comfort as a result of having the cross visible from the outside of the chapel. In an e-mail to Politico, one serviceman said, “Sometimes the Church and the ability to openly express religious views ultimately gets people through the deployments over here.”
According to this particular soldier, when he asked a chaplain what had happened to the cross, he was told that it needed to be taken down. The faith leader, however, didn’t share any additional information on the matter.
“We are here away from our families, and the chapel is the one place that feels like home,” added another service member. “With the cross on the outside, it is a constant reminder for all of us that Jesus is here for us.”

“Not having it there is really upsetting,” a serviceman explained. “I walk by the chapel daily on the way to chow and the gym, and seeing the cross is a daily reminder of my faith and what Jesus accomplished for me. It is daily inspiration and motivation for me to acknowledge my faith and stay on the right path.”
Commander William Speaks, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, confirmed that the cross has been removed, telling Politico that taking it down was a necessity. “The removal was, in fact, in accordance with Army regulations,” he said.
Apparently, the Army chaplain manual prohibits the display of religious symbols. Here’s a portion of the manual that explains these regulations:

Service members who are discontented with the decision believe that it is an attack on their faith. “I really don’t understand why Christians are always attacked. If it was a crescent moon on top of a mosque, it would never be taken down,” one said.
On a blog owned by a man who claims to currently be serving on the base, the following it written:
What’s next? Are they going to start calling the Chapel the “Faith Center”? Are they going to take “God” out of the very oath we take when we enlist in the United States Military? Are they going to remove our religion on our ID tags? Are they going to allow us to wear a cross while in uniform? Are military personnel going to be allowed to bow their heads and pray before each meal? Are we going to go through and edit all of the quotes from our founding fathers so that they are politically correct and neutral in regards to religion and faith? Are we going to ban the picture of George Washington praying at Valley Forge?!
The incident has these soldiers wondering where the line on religious freedom and expression will inevitably be drawn.

As Christians sometimes we tend to stomp rather than love people into the faith. Remember we are now under Grace, not the law. ( “the letter of the law kills”) Grace is love. Think maybe they say one thing trying to be all PC and not offend others, but it could protect our people. (maybe)

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 5:10pmDear U.S. Service men and women,
No action, law, or infringement on your faith can ever remove the comfort felt from faith itself. Continue to kneel. Continue to worship. Abide by the current mandate. Be unshakeable in your faith.
It is an attack nonetheless. It is no different at home. We stand and will continue to stare down evil and expose it for the tyrant it is. The battle that rages against us as Christians and as a people has already been fought and won. Evil is a sore loser that will never win. But it presses on.
Stay strong in your faith. No man can replace our Lord.

Perfect I’m not, but I would, first of all, never have stated we are a Muslim nation or allowed gays in the military or do things to the detriment of our chaplains who are serving our country and providing consul to our soldiers in harm’s way. I guarantee you that the 10% or less of soldiers (present and past) who still back BO are either gay or not a believer. I remember her telling me someday they would even be taking our Bibles from us. I know now from Scripture this has all be foretold. I think that evil time has arrived. Never thought it would be in my lifetime. Just as a suggestion, I know they have not yet come for our Bibles but I believe that day is soon coming. You can buy wallet size Bibles that you can carry in your purse or put it in your pocket. It has very small print but it is readable. It has both the Old and New Testament. Christianbooks.com has them. This may sound extreme but it is better to be prepared for what may come in our lifetime.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 9:20pmActually, if you read the part of the regulation cited, it is talking about the interior of the Chapel. It basically says that inside the chapel, symbols should not be permanently fixed to facilitate change between services (Protestant to Catholic to Jewish, etc.).
The cited regulation references another regulation that deals with the chapel buildings themselves. I assume it has similar wording.
Personally, I have seen many military chapels of all branches of the services that have had steeples (more Masonic than Christian), but none had anything that implied they were exclusively for any faith. That was true even where I had Basic Training and one chapel building was commonly called “the Catholic Chapel” and another was called “the Protestant Chapel” because that made it easier to direct trainees to the place they preferred. They looked identical on the outside. It was almost 40 years ago, so I forget which one had the Jewish services on Saturday.

The problem with Socialists, Communists, Fascists, and Tyrants is that they assume all power resides with the State first, and the State then benevolently grants us our freedom. Regardless of whatever turmoil our nation is in, there will always be righteous people who will help to steer this country back to her moral foundations. We just need to keep our faith strong and our good deeds never-ending.

Christians are actively being persecuted in this country. It won’t be long before a church cannot have a cross that is visible from a public road. And next they won’t allow churches within 500 yards of a school. And church members will have to register in a database registry, just like sex offenders.
Is there any doubt the source of evil? The best way to rout out this evil is to vote for a politician that will reduce government to the absolute minimum, where it is not powerful enough to infringe on our rights like this.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:19pmI’ll probably get some flack for saying it, but I agree with the decision to remove the cross. Unless the military is willing to erect structures for every religious group, then the reasonable alternative is to have a single structure for all religious groups. That being said, I would think that they could have come up with a covering for the cross instead of removing it altogether.
I also wonder if having a structure identified as a religious meeting place, regardless whether it is for a Christian, Jewish, Mormon, Buddhist, or whatever religion, would not make the structure a target. Islam is very intolerant of non-believers, and it would make one hell of a statement if they were to target this structure when services were being held. They could get a lot of mileage out of having killed the so called Crusaders who have invaded their land!

What about KKK members? Should we hang the black servicemen outside the base?
And I bet there are more than a few muslim servicemen – should we gas the jewish servicemen out of a sense of not offending the muslim servicemen?
What about PETA, shouldn’t we force all of our servicemen onto a vegan diet?
The constitution says the government is supposed to stay out of religion, it doesn‘t say religion can’t get all up in government’s face. Big difference. All we really are talking about here are haters. Who would ever hate a church, except a hater?
These groups who are all offended are hardly truly offended – they simply have a deep-seated hatred. They are filled with hatred, and they use the law and the courts as their passive-aggressive means of hating without ever admitting their hate and never EVER admit the evil inside their souls.

Should we just ban anything religious, to appease those irreligious folks? I mean if I didn‘t believe in God or religion and there’s a chapel on the base, that be pretty offensive, right? This is the same BS argument the Marxists try to pull off. We have always been a Christian PEOPLE, even before we ever became a NATION, and we had always guided our Nation as a Religious and Godly People through our Christian Faith and Christian Principles. It was the Spirit of Liberty so uniquely found and displayed in the New Testament, and adopted and practiced by us, that led and influenced our forefathers and ancestors in their fight for Liberty and Independence, and ultimately inspired them to establish the most just and freest Government to ever exist in the whole history of Mankind. The naysayers only have these past 40-60 years to prove an alternative story, which by the way is only defended and promoted to benefit Marxists beliefs. These naysayers use as proof our modern day very liberal Government and progressive Courts to justify their notions of our forefathers being a secular People and absolutist Government. The distortion and corruption in our institutions of learning, in these past 40-60 years, has led to this current ignorance and arrogance among our youths, and even among post baby boomer generations.

True indeed.
You know, Soloman had it all. Power, Wealth that would make Gates look so-so, Women!!! anything and everything that would satisfy ‘the delights of man’. In 40 years, by the time he died, any good was in ruins. The Kingdom divided, war, human sacrifice, one bad after another. In 40 years!!!
And it started alot earlier. How long since the 60′s?
Also one doesn‘t put up a cross to ’cover’ it. That almost seems worse.
As far as being a target, they couldn’t hate us anymore than they do.
How hard can it be to keep the Cross, put up a couple more or so tents with the Star of David, Budda, etc, even the Cresent Moon and Star, the latter right next to The Cross and the Star of David? ie. To show American Union. The atheists’ tent can have a big empty frame.
The clowns that want ‘Festives’, (which are most likely atheists having to make a point), lump them together according to the population on the site. Or do at least what RickBob said. It‘s just that it’s Christianity that is alway on trial the last 50 years in America.
The Spirit of America has always been the Spirit of Christianity. The generousity, helping others etc. The others religions wouldn‘t even have this country if it wasn’t for the Christian Spirit to start with. Besides Christ Himself, when Constantine had the vision of the Cross, winning a losing battle, he declared Christianity as the Religion of Rome. Finally…the USA.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:23pmThis about… a Representative Government… that no longer represents the Majority… and creates Atheistic Support “regulations” (to make everyone Regular, thereby conforming to lowest level)!

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 5:35pmYes, the regulations have been around for some time….since the Carter regime at least. Under Nixon, when I served, I was REQUIRED to attend religious services while in basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
During the Civil War era, you would be REQUIRED to attend religious services on Sunday or forfeit one third of a dollar as a penalty per offense. Read “Hardie’s Infantry Tactics” from that time. Copies are readily available from suppliers (sutlers) to the Civil War re-enacting community.
If you read the Constitution, you will find in the Bill of Rights NO “separation of Church and State”, just a prohibition against the State IMPOSING a religion (like the Church of England- the reason for mention in the Bill of Rights) and if you read further you will find the words “NOR PROHIBIT THE FREE EXPRESSION THEREOF.” !
It seems the modern Socialist Demonazis have no problem promoting islam, a cult of oppression and death, but wish to eradicate Christianity in all its form and expression.
If the Left is looking for trouble, they found it.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:52pmi agree, but they’d probably get in trouble for “defacing” gubbermint property. and like many have said, if they tried to remove a crescent, all hell would break loose. i’m tired of this war on christianity and judaism.

Posted on November 24, 2011 at 12:17amSome of you may know the non-politically correct phrase “Everybody in a fox-hole believes in God.” Truer words are seldom spoken.
Christians are being shat upon (think, past-tense) in every corner of the planet. It’s just that we have access to know about it know. The problem is that the USA is now more hostile to it than ever. It sickens me that we’re supposed to be tolerant of everything under the sun EXCEPT Christianity.
No, it’s not a “Christian” Army, but everybody I know (past/present) who have been in harms way asks whatever version of God they know for help/strength/courage/safety/etc. What’s wrong with that? Islamists want to kill in the name of their God. At least we don’t ask/pray to be martyrs.
BTW: All of us SHOULD prepare for hard times as best we can. Those here that talk loudly about killing people on their porch haven’t had to take a life and life with it. It might have been for the right reasons/cause, but that doesn’t make it easier to do or live with.
We don’t need “tough guys” …we need people that can do what’s necessary if the times call for it, but still be able to lend a hand when we can. Isn’t that what our ancestors did? Isn’t that one of the character traits of who we brag to be as a nation? Isn’t that why our men & women are strung about the planet helping defend these cultures we despise & their evil regimes, famines, natural disasters?
Keep it real.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 4:11pmI have to be honest on this post — this stinks to high heaven of Obama and his cronies seeking to make the military at ticked off as ever; for the sole purpose of forcing an incident to happen that he can use as another excuse to break them once and for all.
