South Carolina NAACP Shields Audience From…George Washington?

The South Carolina NAACP honored Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday while simultaneously dishonoring the nation’s first president.

An organized rally — dubbed “King Day at the Dome” — protested the Confederate battle flag on display at the State House in Columbia and featured speakers and guests who called on government leaders to address “racial disparities” in education, health care, community development, criminal justice, employment and economic development in the state. But as a number of local and national speakers stepped forward to speak from the capitol steps, a large bronze statue of George Washington was conspicuously hidden (h/t Atlas Shrugs).

A large box covered with cloth hid the father of the country from view of the rally’s guests:

Here’s the view of the stage from the audience (h/t Weasel Zippers):

Here‘s Washington’s vantage point, via TheState.com which noted, “The monument of George Washington was concealed from the crowd during the King Day at the Dome rally,” but offered no explanation:

It‘s not clear why the NAACP insisted on covering up the likeness of the nation’s first president and a spokesman for the organization was not immediately available for comment.

Update: The South Carolina NAACP has responded to a request for comment and said the only reason the statue of Washington was covered up was for aesthetic purposes. “We had created a backdrop behind the speakers,” the group spokesman told The Blaze late Tuesday afternoon, noting that someone in his organization forgot to post an NAACP placard on the backdrop.

According to the group, the statue of Washington has been covered each year for the annual rally. The spokesman said he was “at a loss for words” as to why covering President Washington would offend anyone, claiming it was “non-sensical” for people to believe it may have been politically motivated.

    “Dignity in South Carolina”?
They could have had the decency to simply hang the American Flag from two poles as a backdrop.

The NAACP is trying to reduce our First President to a slave owner?
    Theses people are disgusting!!!!!!!!!

“…We’re gonna have to change our traditions, change our history…-Michelle Obama

So, a bronze statue of President George Washington is offensive?

White people in South Carolina have always said, “Thank God for Mississippi” Blacks take great pride in “playing the Race Card” in Education, Politics, Religion…Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Coalition
was shown by Bill O’Reilly several years ago to be using money contrary to IRS Statutes; O’Reilly had several IRS Agents on his TV Program and they all admmitted there was wrong doing while at the same time stating Jesse Jackson would NOT be investigated. PERIOD. And Jesse ha NOT. Jesse is BLACK and the Government does not want a Black Rebellion, which is coming ANYHOW

After 8/28, I went to Mount Vernon and listened to a tour guide for a few minutes while walking the property. She talked about how George Washington changed his views on slavery during the Revolutionary War. This was because he found that the black soldiers that served under him were dependable and good fighters. After returning to Mount Vernon, he didn’t buy or sell any more slaves.

Can’t get too upset. NAACP is just a group of people that practice reverse evolution. As the IQ’s decline, their group increases. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Laws of nature. Nothing else.

How disrespectful, the black’s in the NAACP would prefer if America were Africa. The sad thing is we know how the blacks in Africa behave and act towards each other black vs black with machetes, murder, beheadings and massive rapes, changing leaders on the fly through violence, and whipping white property owners to death and then stealing their homes and farms. We know, we know. The black’s in the NAACP and all those blacks brothers and sisters that support them have a hate on for history and white folk, as expressed in covering up and trying to black out American history, by hiding the first white President of the United States of America from view, because it didn‘t fit in with the NAACP’s agenda of hate and avenge for deeds that have long since faded away and were small in their numbers when considered against the backdrop of a history they refuse to acknowledge. Pity their ignorance and shame on their mischievous beliefs.

They hid it because black leaders and our schools have erroneously told the black community along with our children, that Washington was just a rich white slave owner. So they find him to be repugnant. They don’t know that Washington detested slavery. He believed that no man should own another. In fact his last will and testament freed all the slaves that he owned.

The NAACP can only exist if the black community believes it is being repressed. So they are selling that as hard as they are selling their mandate to fight that repression. Just like the unions need for management to be corrupt and evil to justify their own existence.

These divisive groups create the problem and present themselves as the solution. Neat little scheme huh?

Day after day we witness the offensive behavior of those who hold no reverence for the founders of our nation. The very ideals espoused by MLK were made possible for the common man by the herculean efforts of our Founding Fathers.

George Washington is not simply our first President, nor is he merely the father of our country, he is the indispensible man of his age. His character and his devotion to the ideals of our republic paved the way for the greatest expansion of freedom in the history of the world. To speak before his statue, with such an obvious indication of disrespect says so much about the character of the event sponsors, organizers and speakers.

If disrespect was intended, it has been achieved. An apology to the American people is in order.

I know that many black Americans will disparage Washington for being a slave owner, but they only see what they want to see. He wrote many times of his moral difficulties with the concept of slavery. He believed it was against God’s law for one man to own another, but at the same time he knew that to abolish slavery all at once would destroy the nation they were fighting for. Washington was responsible for many of the laws that began the process of ending slavery in America.and he took action on all of his land holdings. His personal wealth suffered greatly because he refused to sell off slaves that were born on his lands, choosing instead to keep the families together. He treated his slaves as humans and set them free in his will.
This action is yet one more example of people misunderstanding their own history and betraying the memory of someone who dedicated everything to their freedom. This is disgraceful. C’mon people, be Americans and join together to heal, build, and create a better world. Acts like this are subtle ways of destroying that which we need most.

@13thGEN..Q: Did George Washington own slaves?
A: Yes. At age eleven he inherited ten slaves from his father. By the end of Washington’s life, over three-hundred African-American slaves lived at Mount Vernon.
Q: Did Washington free his slaves?
A: Yes. Washington’s attitude towards slavery changed as he grew older and especially as he fought for liberty in the Revolution. He emancipated his slaves in his will and his estate paid pensions to the older African Americans for decades.
Hmm, anything else to say ? The NAACP could’ve told the story, while “SHOWING” the statue of Washington.. It would’ve probably taken just a few minutes, and all the crowd would’ve been enlightened. But no, it doesn’t fit into their agenda of hate whitey. Right there old 13th ?

So we can honor MLK due to the coloration of his skin and not the content and intent of his character and his message to the nation? And yet one of the greatest founders of the nation is shielded from the view of all even though he and so many others of all racial backgrounds fought to be free from a greater nation of tyrants?

Is it just me or does this kind of administration PC garbage seem to have gone overboard to the moon lately? Something is going to give soon, and I pray it will be peaceful.

The storm is here, and gathering strength, I pray we all can stand strong and safe against its wrath.

Before the NAACP does any more complaining they need to look in the mirror as they are the ones always wanting separation. What was George Washington “to white” for them. If they want to treated as equals then start acting like equals and be proud of all the US has been and will be. There have been things done in the past that was harmful but the past is the past. It seems that the speakers honoring MLK didn’t want to compete with the memories of George Washington.

Too bad they didn’t take the opportunity, instead of separating MLK from GW, to promote unifying them. They could honor MLK for advancing the goals that GW had for the nation, that is, freedom for the blacks. Sorry, MLK wasn’t the first to want real freedom for blacks (see also, Abraham Lincoln).

Most people don’t know that slavery was outlawed as part of the Constitutional compromise, but the 20 year (?) delay in the enforcement of the law was continued over and over (kind of like our debt ceiling).

Still, GW and MLK worked for THE SAME DREAM. Sad they couldn’t have handled that way. I wonder if they would have covered up an Abraham Lincoln statue?

They can’t let the folks forget about slavery (100 years ago) and what happened to them at the hands of the white man. They have to keep this dream alive because without it they have NO CRUTCH to use to get their way and support their racist agenda. Hey Folks…the main agenda of the NAACP is not about keeping MLK’s dream alive…on the contrary it is making sure the people never forget SLAVERY and their oppression. Without it, the liberals want be able to keep the blacks on the new DEMOCRAT government plantation. George Washington is the antithesis of everything the NAACP stands for. So no wonder they covered the statue. they don’t want the black community to pay attention to the man behind the curtain…in this case the box….might start thinking for themselves. .

So, the location of the rally was politically relevant enough to go to the trouble of aesthetically modifying anything at all (otherwise the location, as it stood, would have sufficed), yet every other day, everybody who walks by the State House in Columbia knows that it has a statue of George Washington.

There is no other explanation than that covering up the statue of George Washington was politically significant to the NAACP.

The NAACP has sunk to a new low and, like unions, has outlived its usefullness. We are not a people divided, but it seems they want to segregate themselves from the rest of the population with Black Panthers, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and those who chose to keep the pot stirred. MLK’s message was one of vision and hope for the future but it seems to get lost in the rhetoric of discontent. As a white American whose family traveled from foreign shores, I wish for your families what my ancestors wished for mine: hopes, dreams and success.

Oh really NAACP???? Really???? This just ****** me off. Ambiance????

You just try and cover up or obscure MLK’s image in a similar fashion during a similar-type rally for anyone else including President George Washington and witness the onslaught of outrage and accusations of racism. Why do we need a NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) when we can’t have a NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People)? I‘m an unemployed white man and I dont’ see anyone beating down my door to lend me a hand-up let alone a hand-out. Anyway, I thought we were all supposed to call black people, black. It seems to me the NAACP is racist when they call black people and others of “color”, colored. Heck, My race affiliation is mixed Caucasian/Native American. Can’t in good conscience call myself “white” because that is not a color it is a hue; I am more of a light brown/olive skin type but I am not given that choice when filling out any government or if ever asked my color.

Mr. King must be rolling over in his grave when he sees the reverse racism that exists in this country and how “his people” wallow in the past. Really sad that some cannot let go of slavery and the “slave” mentality of entitlement. Really sad we all cannot find equality for all; as long as NAACP exists, we won’t.

Why is their not a NAAJP (National Association for the Advancement of Japanese People or Jewish People because it fits) or the NAAMRP (National Association for the Advancement of Mixed Race People? Weren’t most Irish immigrants who worked the railroads and coal mines enslaved to the “company store”??? All the Irish need to stand up an rally for the NAAIAP (National Association for the Advancement of Irish American People. Fair is fair.

Leave these idiots behind. We have far more ‘real’ issues to deal with than whether or not black people feel liked. I’ve said for year, if you want to overcome the victim mentality of the black culture, you need to meet it head on and crush it into irrelevance. A few questions for the NAACP.
      1. Would you mind if we evened things out with a Congressional White Caucus?
      2. Can we get a month where we do nothing but celebrate the accomplishments of White folks?
      3. How do you feel about W.E.T (white entertainment television)?
      4. Indiana has “Black Expo” License Plates, How about a “White Expo” plate?

With these questions being posed I’m sure to stir a few pots, and thats fine. Its time we take a look at the situation and realize that slavery is over, racism is a cheap excuse that nobody takes seriously anymore because its been used to many times.

      Quick fact:

Some 90% of the victims of race crimes are Whites. Blacks commit 7.5 times more violent interracial crimes than Whites, although they comprise only one-seventh of the White population.

If history serves me right, Washington fought for the rights that blacks practice today. Although slavery was still rampant in the nation during its inception, the United States was still evolving into a better place for all to live. The Constitution was setup to free all from tyranny and never mentioned race or creed to receive or not receive rights. The founders were geniuses regardless of the slavery issue. Blacks need to understand that they weren’t the most oppressed race of people in the world. Try the Jews for thousands of years and still being victimized to this day. The best way to lead this country is to give up power to those who love this country and things will take care of themselves.

“Featured speakers and guests who called on government leaders to address “racial disparities” in education”

I love their agenda, how it is always “Look at the advantage that the white people have in education compared to us minorities” But they always leave out one little thing. Asians. Asians are a minority and excel far beyond all other races in education. The majority of those in colleges today getting Masters or PHD’s are Asian but you never hear the Blacks or Hispanics complaining about how the Asians are getting better educational opportunities! No, it is the anti White agenda. Reverse Racism.

What they always fail to address is that the majority of the problem does not lie with the opportunity but the culture they are surrounded in. If the parents instilled in their children the values and disciplines of education like the majority of Asians do to their kids then they would be more likely to succeed. Instead they think that allowing them to immerse themselves in the messages of Gold and Diamond teeth Rap Stars with big butt girls dancing on their sides who frown upon education and glamorize a street life and Athletes who can make $100 million a year just playing games will not influence them.

I can see why the NAACP might not want to have George Washington…a slave owner…as a backdrop for their MLK rally…it would be somewhat analogous to white South Africans having a rally with a statue of Nelson Mandela as a backdrop… but I think they would have been better served by moving the event rather than covering the statue. George Washington is revered by many as the father of our country and despite his faults, covering his statue is in bad taste.

Only thing i don’t like about a lot of these replies is, if white people covered up a mlk statue. Why would we ever want to do that anyways? He was an american just like george washington. In a country of americans, what can we say to ourselves in a hope of future when we hate ourselves so much.

The spokesperson for the NAACP said that it was, ” Non-sensical ” for people to believe that the covering of the George Washington statue was politically motivated. Okay. But if it was not politically motivated, was it racially motivated ? Although the gathering was in honor of MLKJr. that didn’t give the NAACP the right to dishonor our nations first president. If African Americans are offended by the Confederate Flag displayed over the South Carolina State Capitol, the first State to secede from the Union and fire the first shot in the Civil War, then most White Americans should be and are offended by the NAACP covering up the statue our nations first President. I wonder, what would have been the African American populatiion’s reaction if a statue of MLKJr. had been covered up at a George Washington rally ? The only logical explantion for the NAACP covering of the George Washington statue displayed in front of the SC capitol is racism.

Their serious answer was that they created a backdrop for the speakers? One with a seem right down the middle that draws the eye away from the speaker, right?

Either they’re horrible media folks who should know better given about half a semester in the local community college (or 15 minutes with a handheld HD video camera and a little common sense), or they need to spend more time in the political science classes at the local community college, learning how to lie convincingly.

It’s become a TV ritual: Every year in mid-January, around the time of Martin Luther King’s birthday, we get perfunctory network news reports about “the slain civil rights leader.”

The remarkable thing about this annual review of King’s life is that several years–his last years–are totally missing, as if flushed down a memory hole.

What TV viewers see is a closed loop of familiar file footage: King battling desegregation in Birmingham (1963); reciting his dream of racial harmony at the rally in Washington (1963); marching for voting rights in Selma, Alabama (1965); and finally, lying dead on the motel balcony in Memphis (1968).

An alert viewer might notice that the chronology jumps from 1965 to 1968. Yet King didn’t take a sabbatical near the end of his life. In fact, he was speaking and organizing as diligently as ever.

Almost all of those speeches were filmed or taped. But they’re not shown today on TV.

      Why?

It’s because national news media have never come to terms with what Martin Luther King, Jr., stood for during his final years.

In the early 1960s, when King focused his challenge on legalized racial discrimination in the South, most major media were his allies. Network TV and national publications graphically showed the police dogs and bullwhips and cattle prods used against Southern blacks who sought the right to vote or to eat at a public lunch counter.

But after passage of civil rights acts in 1964 and 1965, King began challenging the nation’s fundamental priorities. He maintained that civil rights laws were empty without “human rights”–including economic rights. For people too poor to eat at a restaurant or afford a decent home, King said, anti-discrimination laws were hollow.

Noting that a majority of Americans below the poverty line were white, King developed a class perspective. He decried the huge income gaps between rich and poor, and called for “radical changes in the structure of our society” to redistribute wealth and power.

“True compassion,” King declared, “is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”

By 1967, King had also become the country’s most prominent opponent of the Vietnam War, and a staunch critic of overall U.S. foreign policy, which he deemed militaristic. In his “Beyond Vietnam” speech delivered at New York’s Riverside Church on April 4, 1967–a year to the day before he was murdered–King called the United States “the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today.”

From Vietnam to South Africa to Latin America, King said, the U.S. was “on the wrong side of a world revolution.“ King questioned ”our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America,” and asked why the U.S. was suppressing revolutions “of the shirtless and barefoot people” in the Third World, instead of supporting them.

In foreign policy, King also offered an economic critique, complaining about “capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries.”

You haven’t heard the “Beyond Vietnam” speech on network news retrospectives, but national media heard it loud and clear back in 1967–and loudly denounced it. Life magazine called it “demagogic slander that sounded like a script for Radio Hanoi.“ The Washington Post patronized that ”King has diminished his usefulness to his cause, his country, his people.”

In his last months, King was organizing the most militant project of his life: the Poor People’s Campaign. He crisscrossed the country to assemble “a multiracial army of the poor” that would descend on Washington–engaging in nonviolent civil disobedience at the Capitol, if need be–until Congress enacted a poor people’s bill of rights. Reader’s Digest warned of an “insurrection.”

King‘s economic bill of rights called for massive government jobs programs to rebuild America’s cities. He saw a crying need to confront a Congress that had demonstrated its “hostility to the poor”–appropriating “military funds with alacrity and generosity,“ but providing ”poverty funds with miserliness.”

How familiar that sounds today, more than a quarter-century after King‘s efforts on behalf of the poor people’s mobilization were cut short by an assassin’s bullet.

As 1995 gets underway, in this nation of immense wealth, the White House and Congress continue to accept the perpetuation of poverty. And so do most mass media. Perhaps it‘s no surprise that they tell us little about the last years of Martin Luther King’s life.

The NAACP and Other Subversive Organizations and Their Rise To Power:
      Jerome Ennis–28 January 2011___________________
They are The New and Honest NAACP. This organization has always been a communist front organization, but they have kept it in the closet publicly, but after they helped elect our First Marxist President, they were told they had a Green Light to Come Out Openly and Expose Their True Colors (No Pun Intended), as did La Raza (The People—Latinos or Hispanics—a Racist Organization), and the Eco-Terrorists such as Green Peace and other so-called Environmentalists, The National Teachers Union, The ACLU, The SPLC, The SCLC and other Anti-American, Anti-U.S. Constitutional groups and organizations and the Hollywood Gang and the Mainstream Media.

The Radical Agenda of Obama was not all Obama’s ideas and doings. The Communists within our own country and in the U.S. Congress had All the Bills and Plans that have been carried out. They were just waiting to have a Majority in Both the House and Senate and a President of Like-Mind (Obama) who would push and promote their plans and would be sure and Sign Every Piece of Garbage Legislation put before him. Those plans included the so-called Health Care Bill, The Take Over of Education Completely, The Take Over of Auto Companies, To Empower Unions, To Destroy Energy Companies, especially Oil and Mining Companies and all the other Communist Actions that have been taking place.

The Communists were waiting for their time to act. And, act they did, and continue to do so. And, if we the people do not Make It Clear to this government at every level of government; Local, County, State and Federal that we Will Not Allow Them To Take Away our Constitution and our Constitutional Rights, they (the government) will continue Marching Down This Communist Road To Destruction of The USA and All Of Our Rights and Freedoms, which actually began in earnest on November 22, 1963 when JFK was assassinated in a bloody coup de etat that brought the Scoundrel, LBJ to power and he started the Abolishing of State’s Rights by beginning the take over of public education, the beginning of the Nationalized Welfare Program called the So Called Great Society Programs which to date has squandered over 13 trillion dollars and has destroyed the work ethic of several generations and has destroyed the family structure of poor and working class families. All of this dumbing down and brainwashing of our children and the destruction of the family and family values has been done Intentionally in order to hand the USA over to a One World Communist State which has and International Ruling Class to Rule over and Control the World, and in order to do that, our Own Government Had to Convince Us, by Force If Necessary, that Our Constitution Was Null And Void and the USA’s Sovereignty and Independence is Null And Void. This has all been done on purpose by both Democrats and Republicans for decades. Obama with a Majority Congress just made One Great Leap and Shoved Down Our Throats Bills and Laws and Controls Over We The People that they Could in one fell swoop, and they will continue to do so until WE, THE PEOPLE, stand up and Say, Hell No We Will Not Give Up Our U.S. Constitutional Rights and Freedoms and Allow this Federal Establishment working in congress with USA enemies to destroy our U.S. Constitution, Our Flag, Our Symbols of Freedom, Our Traditions, Our Culture, Our Language, Our Borders, Our Military, Our Customs, Our Beliefs, Our Sovereignty as a Freed and Independent Nation or our Individual Rights and Freedoms Guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.

That is why the Mainstream Media, Hollywood Stars Comedians, and Obama and Others in Government are trying to Discredit and Destroy The TEA Party, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and anybody else Who Expose and Ridicule Obama and the Actions of this U.S. congress. Obama and his folks and the MSM will do anything and use any dirty trick including intentional lying on a national scale to Shut Down The Voices of Opposition to what Obama and This Congress are doing to this nation and to We, The People.

And, that is why We Had Better Wake Up and Speak Up and Stop this Sprint to a One World Government which is Communism being Shoved Down Our Throats and will be the End Of The USA and Our Constitutional Rights and Freedoms. That is why Obama and His Regime are Cramming as Much As Possible Down Our Throats all at once while they have the power to do so, and that is why they Will Not Let Any Opposition Voices be heard. That, my friends is the Very Definition of Totalitarianism which Will Allow No Opposition. The Democrats and Obama totally Shut The Republicans Out of All Talks and Discussion on their Actions over the Past Two Years. After the TEA Party engineered a Take Over of the U.S. House Of Representatives in the November 2010 elections, now Obama and the Liberal Democrats are saying, “WE Need to Work Together and Negotiate.” And, what We, The People are telling Obama and the Democrats is: We do not want to Negotiate Away Our U.S. Constitution which Contains Our Individual and States Rights and Freedoms. If the TEA Party candidates cave in and go along with Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, we will Just Elect A New Group of Patriots who Will Take This Country Back from these Traitors and Take This Country Back out of the Hands of the United Nations and the One World Communists who are trying to take over this country, lock, stock and barrel.

Wake Up Americans, our Freedoms and Rights are Contained In The U.S. Constitution and This Constitution Gives Us The Right and Responsibility to Take This Country Back from the Traitors who are Currently Trying To Shred The U.S. Constitution.

Have a great day and Happy Trails and May God Bless You and May God Bless America—Jerome
