As vulgar as South Park can be sometimes, I do have to give them credit for their genius on their story lines. They always seem to take something bad…really bad… make it even worse and then pull it out with a surprise ending. Their take on the presidential election of Obama was what I would call a classic. Very surprising and tastefully done. They actually make us laugh at ourselves sometimes, by actually not taking one side over another.

I think the commentary of the show was this: That we as Americans are not only watching but glorifying fellow citizens who act as disgusting as they do on the show Jersey Shore, that it makes a group like Al Qaeda, as awful as it is, look good. At least they have principles, as horrible as they might be. In the episode, the citizens of South Park team up and proclaim that in order to fight the great evil of Jersey Shore taking over the country, they must team up with another evil to destroy it. Shows like Jersey Shore will be the iconic images of the destruction of the Republic.

People die every day from crime and illness, but nobody says they shouldn’t show Scrubs or Reno 911. After nine years, it may be time for those who lost loved ones on September 11th to accept that knowing somebody who died doesn’t make you special; everybody who is not a very young child has known people who are now dead.

Violence, burglary, auto theft, mayham, rape, murder, all the video games are okay – but – a late night adult cartoon…that‘s gonna’ destroy the world? Really? You’re okay with the cop killer music but the cartoons bother you? Try the “channel up” or “channel down” button. That’ll make it all better.

It’s a satirical TV show. It’s meant to poke fun at issues that everyone gets riled up about. I think it’s a genius concept, and it’s executed with extreme hilarity. Yes, it’s offensive, yes, it’s crude. That’s the purpose of it, it’s meant to bring comic relief to situations that often times are taken very seriously(albeit, in some cases, that seriousness is warranted). And as for the comment about kids watching it, what about ANY OTHER SHOW on cable television? Nip/Tuck, CSI, they play Saving Private Ryan once a year on ABC uncut and unedited. If you think that kids can‘t be exposed to these things and have it be explained that it’s not real, or have someone explain the optimistic points of shows like CSI or SPR, then you need to start being a better parent.

Actually, I believe Trey Parker is a fully out of the closet Libertarian. It’s amusing to me sometimes to watch some of the more sensitive on the Right get riled up by a given episode, because it‘s clear that they either didn’t watch it through and “get” the real messages being sent, or they never watched it at all except for small clips. South Park seems to “take shots at all sides” because it lampoons silly culture, lampoons bad ideas from the left, and lampoons bad ideas from the right. It’s pretty spot on though and is coming from a pretty well placed ideology, little “L” libertarianism. If some of the more sensitive on the right who may watch South Park would give most of their shows some deeper thought, they’d see that SP generally delivers a very pro-freedom agenda in thinly veiled disguises. It’s a viral way to help turn 20 to 30 somethings into pro-freedom people.

I see your point — I winced when I realized what was coming — but SP’s point is that the Jersey Shore kids are even worse for American culture than Al Qaeda. And from a purely cultural standpoint — meaning the influence those idiots have on the culture — an argument can be made.

And, the ending speaks for itself.

Snookie (one of the main characters on the reality TV show ‘Jersey Shore’) just signed a book deal. During a recent interview, she admitted to having read just TWO books in her entire life! I‘m sure one of them was probably ’See Spot Run’, or some such other literary masterpiece.

The whole purpose of Southpark is to lampoon anyone and everything that may be controversial. They had a field day with Scientology. It’s all part of their m.o. and not to be taken seriously. I’ve found that you either love it or you hate it… sort of like Bevis and ********.

Actually South Park attacks in all directions. It has lampooned major issues in last few years including the internet, Osama Bin Laden, Mohommed, smart cars, the President, High School Musical, and a host of others. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but not an idealogical attack on one group but rather a satirical and lampoon on issues.

I‘m guessing you don’t watch south park, its not for everyone. I will say this for your sake. It’s political humor and they generally take some of the most decisive and outrageous issues and literally put it in your face. The idea is that its so outrageous that it is funny. All of their episodes are like this. It’s similar to the movie “Team America” a must see. They use puppets, its hilarious…get the edited version though, the in edited has a nasty scene that takes away from the movie, in my opinion. They fight terrorists and wacky celebrity liberal activists…it will make you cry, its that funny. Very well done, they had to make the puppets look less real to keep the humor.

Listen, Before we get any further on this topic of South Park “getting lower”, Look at the past episodes. These guys have been causing contreversies since day one. Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been stepping on toes since the mid 90′s, and they don’t plan on stopping. I’m sure any devout SP fan would remember when Chef was killed off because the person who played him was offended by the Scientology episode entitled “trapped in the closet” where Tom Cruise and what seems to be the entire celebrity body of the “church of scientology” are made complete fools of (rightly so) because Stan is supposedly the re-incarnate founder of scientology.
I also recall (though I don’t remember which episode), that the creators of the show had even threatened to stop writing episodes for comedy central if a specific show wasn’t allowed to be aired.
We have a right to freedom of speech in this country. That’s what we fight for here on the home front. I’m the one that goes home from my job as a correction officer every night thinking that one day I could be locked up in my own place of employment (as an inmate) for speaking out against something I thought to be wrong, and my beloved nation trying me for sedition. That‘s what it’s coming to.
The whole in the short of all of this is that if you are a parent allowing your child to watch a show like south park, or even Jersey Shore for crying out loud, you should re-think your morals and get a V-chip for yourself! Jersey shore to begin with is nothing but mindless garbage with people who have a higher age than I.Q. going out every night and drinking themselves stupid, having premarital sex, and having a worse mouth than i have seen on muderers in a correctional facility! Use some sense people! There is a reason the show airs at 1030 at night.

Actually cartoons were created for and originally targeted adult viewers from the earliest days of animation. The fact of the matter is this cartoon is shown during the appropriate times of day and doesn’t effect children anymore than the next violent program shown after 6:00pm.

Once again all that is needed is good parental control.

Last but not least, if you’re going to make a stink about violent or politically incorrect cartoons, maybe you should start with Warner Bros. Of course like any good Liberal, you’re probably to young to remember the really good cartoon classics. Liberals are young and rebelious which leads them to their extreme views. Hopefully like so many of us, you‘ll realize your elders were right all along and only trying to steer you down the right paths in life because they’ve already been in your shoes and have the wisdom and experience to guide you.

I think you’re right. The show promotes a the desensitizing of American culture. But there was a valid point made by one of the characters. Not sure which one but one character states that they need to be sensitive to the feelings of the victims of 9/11 attacks for another 10 months.

Unfortunately, I believe this is an accurate prediction of our culture. A decade after the attacks and the overwhelming majority of Americans are going to give up and lose interest on the war on terror.

Anyone with half a brain knows that 95% of all cable television is slowly, subliminally distorting the beliefs and opinions of the viewers. Whether it’s Discovery, Nat Geo, or comedy sitcoms like The Simpsons they all desensitize issues on religion, race, sexual orientation and gender, politics, family traditions, and morals. It’s our responsibility to understand and reject the intended downplaying and twisting of content if we choose to watch. I constantly have to make a mental note and reject what is often purported as fact on Discovery or The History Channel. With today’s technology, there is an endless wave of lies, propaganda, gossip, and rumors. It’s solely up to the individual and parents what is taught and learned. Responsibility instead of whining as the Liberals do about everything.
