Southern Baptists Fall Prey to Elaborate Gay Marriage Hoax

Southern Baptists Fall Prey to Elaborate Gay Marriage HoaxSome people out there are vehemently unhappy with the Southern Baptist Convention’s (SBC) take on gay marriage. One “group” was so unhappy with the organization’s stance that it decided to launch an elaborate Internet hoax. The prank, which was carried out on Tuesday, has left Baptist officials scratching their heads.

The plot included a fake web site, news releases — even a phone number — all intended to falsely convince reporters and the public that America’s largest Protestant denomination had changed its stance on gay marriage. FOX News has more:

The release was sent to an unknown number of reporters and directed readers to a website designed to replicate the real Southern Baptist Convention website, along with working telephone numbers where individuals identified themselves as employees of the SBC Executive Committee…

The news release came from a group calling itself the “Southern Baptist Conference of America.” The release falsely announced that the Southern Baptists had met in “extraordinary emergency session” to affirm gay rights and repent “of any past homophobia that not only hurt gay people but kept them ostracized from the church.”

The scheme was so extensively planned out that it even included fake quotes from actual denomination officials. Additionally, upon calling the posted phone number, reporters reached individuals who claimed to be staff members — even interns — for the SBC.

Denomination President Bryant Wright had affirmed his belief that the attacks came as a result of the religious group’s ongoing opposition to same-sex marriage. According to FOX, he said:

“I have a hunch that maybe somebody that was unhappy with our ongoing stand for sexual purity decided to set up this false website.”

According to SBC’s web site, its official stance on gay marriage is as follows:

“We affirm God’s plan for marriage and sexual intimacy — one man, and one woman, for life. Homosexuality is not a ‘valid alternative lifestyle.’ The Bible condemns it as sin. It is not, however, unforgivable sin. The same redemption available to all sinners is available to homosexuals. They, too, may become new creations in Christ.”

According to the Baptist Press, the stunt was organized by the Center for Responsible Christian Living (which, ironically, does not have a web site). The group, via a press release, vindicated Wright‘s belief that the attack was due to SBC’s gay marriage stance, stating that they launched the project to expose the denomination’s perspective on marriage as “both irresponsible and unchristian.”

The Center, which describes itself as a think tank, but has yet to be substantiated, also wrote, “Our hope was to offer a vision of what might be possible” and described the initiative as a “friendly prank.” The group declined to identify any official spokespersons.

If this scheme is anything like the ongoing glitter attacks being launched by gay marriage advocates, there could be more elaborate scheming to come.

Fascism as defined by noted British Academic Political Theorist, Roger Griffin, is “a genuinely revolutionary, trans-class form of anti-liberal, and in the last analysis, anti-conservative nationalism” built on a complex range of theoretical and cultural influences. He distinguishes an inter-war period in which it manifested itself in elite-led but populist “armed party” politics opposing socialism and liberalism and promising radical politics to rescue the nation from decadence.

So Joe1234 to answer your question, no, I absolutely do not see the fascism in the gay rights movement! By the definition offered above I see more fascism in many of the posts here on this site, or the words of Michele Bachman, or even the church itself!

      @JOE1234

A little research might help you understand the true roots of Nazism. Nazism presented itself as politically syncretic, incorporating policies, tactics and philosophies from right- and left-wing ideologies; in practice, Nazism was a far right form of politics. After the German defeat in World War I in an effort to excuse the defeat Nazism offered the political Dolchstosslegende (“Legend of the Dagger-stab in the Back”) claiming that the Imperial German war effort was internally sabotaged, by Jews, socialists, and Bolsheviks. Proposing that, because the Reichwehr’s defeat did not occur in Germany, the sabotage included a lack of patriotism among their political antagonists, specifically the Social Democrats and the Ebert Government, whom the Nazis accused of treason. The Nazis claimed that Jews were the greatest threat to the Aryan race and the German nation. They considered Jews a parasitic race that attached itself to various ideologies and movements to secure its self-preservation, such as: the Enlightenment, liberalism, democracy, parliamentary politics, capitalism, industrialisation, Marxism and trade unionism. So in short the Nazis considered Jews to be progressive liberal democrats!!!

So Joe a lot can be inferred from a name that may not actually be correct….as for instance one may infer from your screen name that you can not count to 5…..better go back to Sesame Street…oh! That’s right! That is a liberal propaganda machine!

oto1: a little research? perhaps you should do that…nazism was SOCIALIST to its core. Naziism, as their name says…is SOCIALIST. seriously how hard is national SOCIALIST german workers party? why do you think Stalin and Hitler were so buddy-buddy until hitler betrayed him? hmmmm?

from Mein Kampt Volume 2: Chapter VII:

In 1919-20 and also in 1921 I attended some of the bourgeois [capitalist] meetings. Invariably I had the same feeling towards these as towards the compulsory dose of castor oil in my boyhood days. . . . And so it is not surprising that the sane and unspoiled masses shun these ‘bourgeois mass meetings’ as the devil shuns holy water.

      Chapter XII:

The National Socialist Movement, which aims at establishing the National Socialist People’s State, must always bear steadfastly in mind the principle that every future institution under that State must be rooted in the movement itself.

but you’re a liberal, I‘m sure you won’t let facts get in the way of your ideology…but you are good for a few laughs!! you left wing buffoon

Oto1: other educated people understood that nazis were socialist…that explains why you do not…

F.A. Hayek in his Road to Serfdom (p. 168) said:

The connection between socialism and nationalism in Germany was close from the beginning. It is significant that the most important ancestors of National Socialism—Fichte, Rodbertus, and Lassalle—are at the same time acknowledged fathers of socialism. …. From 1914 onward there arose from the ranks of Marxist socialism one teacher after another who led, not the conservatives and reactionaries, but the hard-working laborer and idealist youth into the National Socialist fold. It was only thereafter that the tide of nationalist socialism attained major importance and rapidly grew into the Hitlerian doctrine.

So where in those passages, other than in the name, did Hitler state they were socialist? Being Anti-Capitalist does not make you a Socialist? The German Nazi (National Socialist) Party was politically fascist, which is a corporatist, racist ideology, based on the supremacy of the state over the individual, the importance of tightly centralized power and the fetishization of national myths and heroes. Socialism is multinational and working-class in character, seeking to establish a fully democratic, classless society. When Hitler joined the party in the early 1920′s the party was quite small, one of dozens of right-wing populist formations at the time. By upping the nationalist ante, scapegoating national minorities and adding “socialist” to the party’s name, Hitler found he was better able to attract disenchanted WWI veterans and workers left jobless during the hard economic times that followed the Treaty of Versailles. To better distinguish his party and its ethos from the more established socialist and communist entities at the time, and to reflect its intense nationalism, he also added “national” to the name. Socialism was the Nazis’ greatest threat to power. In the years before the fated election that led to Hitler becoming chancellor, the Nazis’ SA brownshirts engaged in incredibly violent, sometimes deadly, attacks on socialists and communists, in addition to their favored Jewish targets. Socialists and communists were some of the first concentration camp inmat

I just love the way non-believing groups or persons have such “wisdom” in defining what is or is not “Christian”. The word literally means “Christ in” because the early believers knew full well that they had Christ in them. An unbeliever couldn‘t possibly understand what that means and a worldy ’christian‘ doesn’t heed the urgings of the Lord they say they serve. Do not tell me I am unchristian if you have no idea who Christ is or what He taught. These perps are no different than anyone else who down through the centuries has opposed the plan and purposes of God. They have no idea whom they really serve, nor do they realize the consequenses for every idle word they speak. Our duty is to ‘forgive them for they know not what they do’ and then allow God to work out a ‘payment plan’ for them. Hopefully the SBC’s lawyers (and IS people) can assist is bringing about an equitable consequence in order to discourage a repeat effort.

Oh my lord, do you actually believe that (“Christ In”)? that’s a perfect illustration of people believing whatever they are taught. Someone says it and it sounds smart so we repeat it trying to sound smart instead of looking it up and LEARNING – it’s exactly the same way so many Christians have so many false concepts about LGBT people. Read on and learn:

We live in a culture where everyone wants to reinvent truth to fit their own agenda. What God says is truth not matter how much we may not like it. Sin is sin. Pretending to be someone you are not is also sin, it is deception; much like homosexuals trying to convince us that their sexual behavior is normal.

This stuff is as old as dirt – at different degrees/awareness – but still there & we are at the time when it’s escalating, becoming more bold and violent, etc. Right now Glenn is talking about how the Nazi‘s had a booklet to promote their agenda and it’s all about the falacy/deception/dangers of Christianity…saying how it‘s the same stuff we’re seeing today by the left. Satan’s tactics never change and are predictable….and sadly, highly successful.
I’m not Baptist, but I’m very grateful that they are standing firm on this bc the “church” is now increasingly going into apostasy and caving on issues that are controversial – aiming to please people rather than God….just as Jesus/Scriptures say. But I want to make mention of something: it’s the homosexual “lifestyle” – the acts/lust that are the sin, not just having those abnormal preferences – just as it is with heteros, who have the normal sexual preferences, which is not a sin – only when they act/lust on them (adultery,etc.). Many seem to be mixed up about that & cause harm. I’m speaking of those that sincerely have those desires – not just doing it bc they want to be “different”, rebellious, etc. – which is sin too of course. But I believe you can indeed be born with this as a genetic defect as a generational curse through the family line just as all of us inherit something – propensities to diseases, etc., abnormalities. But this is no excuse – God expects all of us to come to Him for help.

Hitler was bi at best, but there is no doubt he used/worked with a group of violent homosexuals hell bent on the repeal of Paragraph 175 of the German legal code that made sodomy a crime, and ridding the world of religion, at any costs. It’s unclear if he was just using them, or if he really actively supported their cause, just as it’s unclear why the liberals are in bed with them today.

NSDQ, a crusade is no different from a caliphate.Even though we might agree on individual rights, our constitution, and freedom from tyranny. This non-Christian will defend his family from such a violation of freedom. I have nothing against Christianity ( or any other religion for that matter). But I do have a problem with anyone imposing their beliefs on me. It’s obviously not acceptable for people to do what has occured in this story.

Just remember that you have fellow Americans who are not apart of your religion, but would defend your right as an individual to pray or not pray as you please. I would hope that you would recipricate such a gesture.

JOE1234, Actually I have studied all of the crusades and am far more advanced in the subject than 101. Initially, it was in response to the Ottoman (Turks) invasion of Europe. What it turned out to become, was an extermanation of all peoples of Europe who would not pledge their devotion to Christendom. In my ancestry (for example) there were still families who kept their Larariums (an altar to honor that individual families’ ancestors and Gods). If found, that family would have been dragged (women and children included) through the streets until they submitted. If they did not, they were either burned alive or simply had their throats slit. Fortunately for some of my ancestors, they became Christian ( if only to protect their children). Religion was used to rally the people against the cause. A tool that is still used today.

Of course, I cannot speak for all gay people as I do not generalize human beings. In response to your calling my comment ignorrant, being forced into Islam as opposed to Christianity as people were in Europe? People died because they were not Christian, people die now who do not believe in someone’s ideology and or religion. It is a fundemental human trait to want to control our environment and other people. What seperates those of us who seek individual freedom from those who seek social freedom is that we surpress that urge to demonize, control, and ridicule others for how they live their lives. Ulimately those individuals should be held accountable, not because of who they choose to love but because of what they did.

I cannot convey your message ” stop demonizing christians, and trying to take our freedom of speech and religion away ” as not every gay individual has those intentions any more than every Christian would like to see me and my family burn because we are not of their faith. Each individual has a choice, each individual should be called out on their actions. As these people involved should be.

Any sex outside of marriage, between a man and a woman is sin. So, couples living together are in the same boat as homosexuals. But, get this: Even if a man has looked upon a woman with lust in his heart it is the same as committing adultery. Have you ever looked upon a woman/man with lust in your heart. There is none righteous, no not one. We‘ve all broken God’s commandments! We all deserve hell and before a Just and Holy God, we are guilty! But, Good News for homosexuals and adulterer and all sinners, Jesus, 2,000 years ago paid the ultimate price, He died for our sins. The punishment that we deserve, He took upon Himself and if we repent and turn from our sins and turn to the Savoiur, Jesus Christ and put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins and give us everlasting life and give us a new nature, a new heart, where we will want to please our Lord and die to sin, we will not want to sin because the Holy Spirit will be in us and convict us of our sin. You cannot save yourself, but must cry out to God for Mercy and ask Him to open your eyes to Truth! We’re all going to die and stand before God at the Judgment Seat of Christ, if you are not clothed with Christ, you will go to hell…Accept Christ‘s payment for your sins and turn to Him before it’s too late. May God have Mercy on your soul, whoever is reading this.

@encinom – with due respect, no. the vast majority of Southern Baptist are very kind and loving people. the amount of money and hours they dedicate to helping those in need (per apita) well exceeds any other faith group.

what they are is well meaning folks deceived by an entrenched false doctrine, just as they, many of them at least, were in years past on the race issue. If Southern Baptist have a major flaw, it’s not hatefulness, but (and this is especially troubling for a denomination which prides itself on “the priesthood of the believer”) is, on the whole, incredibly shallow in their actual knowledge (this might be true of other denominations but I speak only of those i well know).

the average SBC church member knows exactly about the Bible and doctrine what their preachers and teachers tell them to know. once a thing becomes an “everybody knows” meme in the SBC, it’s recycled throughout the podiums and pulpits like an Urban legend goes around Facebook.

The people, for the most part, are sincere and loving – some of those who have been the very best to me since i accepted my condition have been SBC Christians (and also the worst of them have been) but it’s patently obvious that most of them really have never given any serious study or thought to the subject, they just take the party line and assume their teachers wouldn’t lead them wrong.

I suspect this is true for most “conservative” Christians.
