Police Investigate Spanish Teacher for Saying ‘Ham’ to Muslim Boy

This story is almost too unbelievable to be true.
A teacher in Spain is being investigated after he said the word “ham” during a geography lesson and apparently offended a Muslim boy in class. The boy has become so distraught he says he can’t even get out of bed. The teacher says he won let one boy dictate the learning of the other 29 students.
From the Spanish paper Diario de Jerez, via Jihad Watch (emphasis added):
This paper has learned that the teacher was lecturing normally on the different climates of the planet and used the Granada town of Trevélez as an example of a cold, dry climate. As an anecdote, the teacher recounted that just such a climate was conducive to the curing of hams. Then the student asked the teacher not to speak of hams since the subject offended him as a Muslim.
According to what this daily learned from sources at the school, the teacher responded that he was simply giving an example and that he did not in his classes take into account the religion that his students practiced.
Now the police are involved (emphasis added):
Agents of the Judicial Police went to Menéndez Tolosa yesterday so that the teacher could provide a statement about what happened during the class. In addition, officials have requested disciplinary and academic documentation of the child in this school and the previous center in which he was enrolled.
This paper has learned that the teacher is accused of being the author of an alleged crime of abuse of workers, alleging also racist and xenophobic motives….
This is “so outrageous that it is hard not to wonder whether or not it is a parody,” Jihad Watch writes. “But it doesn’t seem to be one.”

First of all, the teacher did not say “Ham” to this child specifically, the teacher mentioned the word in the course of a lecture.
Second of all, the kid claims he doesn’t feel like getting out of bed. Our son also felt that way on many days, however, it wasn’t because someone said ham, it was because it was easier to stay in bed. We Americans have a word for it, “Lazy” and I will readily confess to experiencing the same feeling myself.
Thirdly, if Muslims are so fragile and thin skinned that they can not function in a society that does not cater specifically to them, well, they should go back to wherever they came from.
The rest of us should lay in a stock of Spam to be used as air-freshners and repellants of those too delicate to function in our societies. The Brits should fire up the ovens and get those hot cross buns baking, and maybe the rest of us should too. Start now and avoid the Easter Week rush. Oh, yeah, and by the way, dogs are also considered unclean, so all you dog owners, get ready.
We have friends who are vegans and vegetarians and they don’t faint at the sight of a hamburger, so these people who can‘t handle a simple word just don’t belong in our societies.

We do this each year at both Thanksgiving and Christmas and we share it with our large extended family. Honey Baked HAMS are most awesome and we feed on them for over a week after each holiday.
May I also recommend “Tactical Bacon” – http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/CMMG-Tactical-Bacon-1325 For those of you building up your battery and into black guns (by the by, please get at least one tactical firearm for your family and train, train, train, train and train some more with it opposite tactical shooting. Minimally, it will help keep you fit and you’ll have a lot of fun learning how to use it and hunt with it – feral pigs in our area number in the hundreds of thousands and Hornady’s .223 REM 55gr V-Max rifle cartridges get the job done. ***for defensive fire, use Lake City 62gr M855 steel core penetrators (AKA green tips – avoid any fakes and get Lake City ONLY***)). Also consider the new Federal 5.56mm MK318 MOD 0 Barrier Blind SOST rounds (highly recommended and also manufactured by Lake City – do note the discoloration around the neck of these rounds is intentional – many new shooters think the discoloration means the rounds are old, re-loaded, or otherwise defective – nothing could be further from the truth. The coloration is part of the manufacturing process, which hardens the neck and makes it much more consistent in its thickness).
****ALSO NOTE: DO NOT/NOT fire any of the above NATO 5.56×45mm rounds IF your AR is only designed and stamped for .223 REM. The pressure is too high and the bullet weight at 62gr is too high for the 1 in 9 rifling twist in many AR knock-offs. Only fire the above M855 and MK318 MOD 0’s in a rifle designed and stamped for 5.56×45mm with a 1 in 7 twist rate – many cheaper AR’s are designed for .223 REM ONLY and heavier rounds (above 55gr) are wildly inaccurate with them – oh, and obey all state and federal laws at all times and remember, even unloaded guns can kill!****

However,our Costitution defends free speech, regardless of how moronic it may be; So despite my belief that such comments come from people no brighter than rocks, I will have to tolerate you despite your lack of ability to communicate beyond anything but a rudimentary level.
I would prefer to be among those who clearly want to represent their fellow Americans with thought filled, insightful statements that actually represent the idealism of our founding fathers along with the multiple decades of forward motion that allowed us to become the greatest country on earth.

As for this article, there is a difference between respecting one’s belief and bending over backwards to please everyone. Anyone living in a place with a mix of different cultures needs to be aware of what may come up. The disturbed student needs to learn to handle the word “ham.” He wasn’t asked to eat ham or anything like that. What if he sees a ham and cheese sandwich on a menu? Is he going to run from the building if he sees that?
