Speaker Boehner Defends Crying & Smoking During Fox News Interview

WASHINGTON (AP) — Asking House Speaker John Boehner why he cries so much is one thing. If you want to turn his tears to mild annoyance, bring up his smoking.

Boehner tells “Fox News Sunday” that he wears his emotions on his sleeve and that’s why he tears up so easily. He also says he’s not going to apologize for getting emotional about things he believes are important.

Besides being quick to tear up, Boehner is also known around Washington as a heavy smoker. When asked why he doesn’t quit, the top House Republican responded sharply that, yes, it’s a bad habit, but that he chooses to smoke.

As far as being asked again and again about his smoking, Boehner says with a smile, “Leave me alone.”

Most likely, because he’s a Politician!

Untill we get a free slate of Politicians in there we should scrutinize all of them. Be cautious of the ones just elected.

Egad, if i had to go to work with all the morons Boehner has to associate with, I’d cry and chain-smoke too! One can tell a lot about someone by the company he keeps. Boehner knows that and gets emotional that he has to stoop to associate with his fellow-elected colleagues when it ought to be a great honor! Can you imagine Fancy Nancy stating (with a straight face) “We have to pass it so you can see what’s in it!” The last time someone told me that, all I could find in the mess was a few kernels of corn!!! Believe me, it wasn’t pretty!!! Stank to high-heaven too!!! But, I passed the lab test!

Think about the contrast between Obama and Boehner and in their treatment of these things by the media.

Obama is emotionless, detached, aloof, and ultimately false – and the media gives him a pass. Boehner wears his heart on his sleeve, and the media skewers him.

Obama always proclaims he’s “trying” to quit and never does, and the media gives him a pass. Boehner says it’s his personal choice, not stopping, get over it, and the media skewers him.

    No double standard. Heh.

Why does Nancy Pelosi do so much Botox? Does anyone really care? I’m more concerned about whether Boehner keeps his promise and does what he said he would do. If smoking cigarettes and tearing up now and then helps him in that endeavor, all the power to him. He’s not asking the taxpayer to pay for his cigarettes… so why do we care.

The only thing Obama tears up about is whether the polls show him declining and if he doesn’t get the center of attention. Sadly, the world turns around him (Obama), and us peasants are just another nuisance. As far as Boehner is concerned, I truly believe he is very sincere about his emotions for this country and how hard he and others have had to work in order to get where the are. The amount a sacrifice and hard work it takes to make it in this or any other country is nothing to be ashamed of. Some work for it, others seem to be handed it, you guess which one fits.

We all sit here posting out opinions, and we think nothing of what it took for us to be comfortable, sittintg here, posting freely what our opinion was, anywhere from UNTAMABLEKATE to BECKISNUTS, we are ALL free Americans, free to post and say whatever wee feel is in our hearts to say, and we have this right because so many lives before us have been sacrificed to assure we are free! Can’t we both, left and right, agree that we are all Americans?? Can’t we all agree that even though philosophies differ, we can still make America work? Can’t we all stop with either the sarcastic or serious “It was Bush’s fault” rhetoric and find a way for us all to be at a happy medium of peace and tranquility?
Can’t we all just be Americans, tied to the same fate and want to love our neighbors?

No one seems to notice Obama always bums a cigarette from him when they have meetings. But then again, because he still smokes, he is paying tax on those cigarettes and supporting all those far left programs aimed at stopping underage smoking.

Nobody should apologize for a pleasure that harms nobody else. The “nasty habit” thing is bullsh*t. I smoked pipes at one time, and did so proudly. It was great. I loved it. Stop apologizing for enjoying life people!

Boehner gets emotional because of his keen awareness of the tragedy our country could be facing. He doesn‘t hide his smoking because he’s not a pansy.

      @GhostOfJefferson
Have you noticed that it didn’t become such an issue until Obama and healthcare pushed smoking and politicians into the spot light? If George Bush had smoked, the left would have been sending him cartons of free cigarettes sayiing “Smoke up” hoping he would die. Obama has been trying to quit and not one attack from the Lame Stream Media, but Beohner has simply said, “Mind your own buisness” and this is a national issue. It seems Michelle my Bell likes to tell us what to eat, and what we should look like, be healthy and all that, but her butt has gotten bigger, and the same day she was up in Wisconsin talking about pushing healthy eating for school kids, she went out that afternoon and had a cheeseburger and fries.
This elites of this country seem to want the masses and unwashed people to do what they say, they see Boehner as one of those people and are trying to browbeat him.
As Benders (Judds character, Breakfast Club) father said, “Smoke up Johnny.”

Not one among us leads a perfect, healthy lifestyle- period. Some people eat too much, some drink too much, some work too much, some worry too much. Why is it smokers are always condemned and branded with having the NASTY habit. ENOUGH! At some point we will all die. I think liberals are afraid of dying. They believe that this is the only life there is so better live forever- right? Well- I don’t want to live forever, thank you very much. As for our new SPEAKER- I think it is great that he cries and shows emotion for this country (I thought I was the only one). And for his smoking- who cares.

Eating red meat is bad for you. Drinking alcohol is bad for you. If you are going to outlaw smoking, you must outlaw redmeat and alcohol.

A proud kiwi living in Middle Earth, but I have travelled a lot in younger days as us kiwis usually do and spent a bit of time in the USA. I‘ve lost count of the individual US states that I have worked in or visited but it’s about half of them. (Alaska is still on the “bucket list”.)

I have a very great fondness and admiration for America and Americans but I love my country and always come home eventually.

Done, done, and I’m married with two girls under five (had my first daughter when I was 50 and can still hardly believe it). The fishing etc will be no problem as the Pacific ocean is at the bottom of my garden. (Search google earth for Whenuanui Bay, Picton, NZ. Our house is the dark coloured roof in the middle and back from the water.)

I sincerely hope we get together one day.

If you think Obama hasn’t been asked about his smoking, you’re not paying attention: McClatchy, Bob Schieffer etc. Re: the crying, it apparently makes Boehner an easy target for both the right and the left I guess. It seems to almost always occur when reference is made to his childhood. Maybe he’ll be sensitive to childrens issues in general…

HillbillySam1. You’re wrong. That was a delectable smelling cigar and he smoked it with relish. Not the pickle kind, that’s a different story. As far as Boehner getting weepy, I can’t condemn that. I’m very much the same. Things that affect my heart and are touching, makes me weep too. Some of us just feel the caring much more deeply and can’t turn off the water works. When they show poor dogs who’ve been abused, I become a faucet. When I have tremendous pride for my grand children, it makes me weep from the pride I feel for them. Lucky you folks who can control your feelings, I never could. The only thing I hold against Boehner is the stinky smoking, not the tears.

@ DUSTYLUV It’s not really any of our business if he chooses to smoke..He has the right to kill himself anyway he wants, However if he ever votes for a bill restricting our RIGHT to do the same that’s a horse of a different color!! I personally don’t smoke and in fact am allergic to cig and cigar smoke…That said IT’S A BASIC RIGHT FOR ALL AMERICANS TO CHOOSE THEIR LIFESTYLES AND HABITS!!!

@John 1776 – “Can you ever imagine Obama tearing up about pride in his country??”

Barack Hussein Obama (AKA Barry Obama, AKA Barry Soetoro, Kenyan illegal alien) … well that depends on which Obama, and which country, and which ideology (hint: none of them American).
