Spirit Air‘s ’Weiner’ Ad Goes Viral

Nothing like kicking a guy when he’s down. Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is capitalizing off of Rep. Anthony Weiner’s recent moral failures. The airline’s “Big Weiner” sale is is offering customers flights at affordable rates — and, it’s gone viral. CNN Money has more:
“Check out our BIG Weiner Sale boasting fares just too hard to resist,” the airline wrote in an ad sent via email Tuesday. “Hurry to book now before this sale gets hacked!”
The marketing campaign is a clear reference to U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who admitted to sending explicit photos of himself and carrying on inappropriate relationships online.
Customers can nab fares as low as $9 each way, pending they are Spirit Airlines Fare Club members (of course, there are limitations in terms of travel and booking dates). The Miami Herald received a hilarious response when they asked for clarification:
Asked via e-mail why the airline decided to enter the Weiner controversy, Spirit Corporate Communications Director Misty Pinson would only respond, “ We can confirm with certitude that the photo is in fact our weiner. The ad is ours, and we sent it.”

Oh don’t get me wrong. His name is Weiner, and he tweeted a picture of his wiener. That’s comedy gold right there. That’s double entendre based humor right up there with people “teabagging the president”. I’m not even being sarcastic here, I laughed for a good solid minute when I first heard about this.
But this story is a sideshow. It’s mostly unimportant and has nothing to do with policy. For a site that’s expected to be taken seriously as a source of real news and commentary, this whole scandal should warrant maybe one or two front page headlines. Possibly three because it’s so funny. But thirteen? Really? Like I said, this site is a joke.

He knew he was busted and he did something about it… If this had been a Conservative that had done this same thing (pics, lies and accusations) there would have been 163+ stories on HuffPo and it would have been constant front page/leading story news from the get go on all MSM sources… Just so happens, Weiner gets his due on the Blaze which happens to be a conservative site! If I went and complained in the comments on every blog and news site blowing this story and other sex “scandals” out of proportion, I’d have to quit my job and do it full time.
Still, you’re missing the point. 63 stories is a lot, certainly more than this story deserves, but it‘s hardly a significant percentage of the content they’ve put out in the last few days. Look a the HuffPost main page. It’s packed full of news stories, and blog posts covering a wide range of topics. All with a handful Weiner stories poking up here and there. Now look at The Blaze main page. It’s a Weinerpalooza. It’s positively engorged with Weiner stories. There’s a good stretch there where literally every other headline has the word “Weiner” in it. It’s thrusted into every available opening. The Blaze seems to have a full on raging Weiner obsession.
As for Chris Lee, he shouldn’t of had to resign. But then, neither should Weiner. As far as the broadband based infidelity goes, I don’t really care. It’s really none of my business. In fact, it‘s no one’s business besides his family and the women involved. His response to to questions about the tweet shouldn’t have been a lie or the truth, it should have just been “no comment”. Lying about it for ten days straight, though, was pretty low, and he should be reprimanded for that. I don’t think I ever claimed to have that power. As for the rest of your comment: I never saw the point in visiting web sites and watching shows just to have the opinion I already have repeated back to me. I also have no desire to comment on sites full of like minded people just to have them pat me on the back and give me “thumbs up” for having similar beliefs as them. I don’t need my views to be constantly validated by having them echoed back at me, nor do I intend on providing that service for anyone else.

This is an old dilemma easily going back to Clinton, oh yea, let us not forget Kennedy, and why not throw out King David too. However, this one lends so well to comic relief with a guy that cries for public sympathy because of the great burden of his last name while privately he flaunts it… vividly. And what timing, Memorial Day. To be frank, it is the start of this season. We will all be laughing till Labor Day. Matter of a fact, I just ate up a couple left over from this last holiday, between bun and on a generous bed of fresh chopped onions, yum.
Yes there are many greater concerns as I constantly work to be more self-reliant, preparing for the worse, praying for your best. Yet where are the messes we are in if not for all the political lies. Being irate and demanding resignation over this dog… well what is the big deal… we have been swallowing whoppers much bigger for a long time. This hot topic is just indicative of a the whole mess we are in… politicians do not take ‘We The People’ serious. We are the constant joke of their backroom lies. It is kind of nice to have one of them be the joke in our front-rooms. Anthony will inspire battle cries in the months ahead, yet not alone.

I bet Spirit Airlines hasn’t contributed to many “progressive” politicians. And I can imagine the shrivelled-up Congressman Weiner having an apoplectic fit right about now…wanting SO BADLY to launch some sort of ginned-up investigation of this “evil” company, while his aides (and the “adult” senior members of his party) have to hold this stupid nitwit down !
