Springtime for Occupy! Piven & Lerner’s Six Risky, Strategic Steps Forward for the Evicted Movement

It’s Springtime for Occupy!  That means the brilliant cast of characters that brought you the noxious, multimillion dollar expense toSpringtime for Occupy! Frances Fox Piven & Stephen Lerners Six Risky, Strategic Steps Forward for the Evicted Movement the taxpayer are back for a second round.  Two of The Blaze’s favorite leaders of civic unrest, arch-liberal sociologist Frances Fox Piven and SEIU labor organizer Stephen Lerner discussed  how Occupy Wall Street will pivot to a far more local, intimate occupation this spring after being evicted from their public squatting grounds with rubber bullets and crews in post apocalyptic hazmat suits.  In an in-depth interview with Democracynow.org, Piven and Learner lay out five integral steps that Occupy will be taking this spring to keep a pulse going.

 

 

The six next strategic steps for The Occupy Movement are as follows according to Learner and Piven:
1. LOCALIZE: Move Protest into neighborhoods and schools.

“What people have been figuring out how to do is to move the protest into the neighborhoods, into the workplaces, into the schools.” ~Piven

2. OCCUPY FORECLOSED HOMES AND FACTORIES: Broaden agenda to those most affected by the economic collapse.
“I think, in the end, it may turn out that evicting the occupations was the precipitant of expanding the movement, because the movement’s agenda has broadened, and they’re now experimenting with reoccupying foreclosed homes, for example, with ways of rallying to the defense of workers who are locked out or on strike.”~Piven

3. RECRUIT YOUTH: Use the Universities and Professors as spearheads of Recruitment to broaden movement.
“And with the spring, I think there’s going to be a lot of protest in the universities and the colleges.
Young people are very responsive to the appeals of Occupy, to their cultural style.”~Piven

4. ORGANIZE WITH LABOR: Further integration between Occupy and the traditional Unions, teamsters and community organizing, leftist organizations.

“And I think it’s part of how we think about combining the horizontal energy and vision and passion of Occupy with the more vertical traditional community- and labor-based groups. And when the two of them meet, we’ll get the combustion of saying Wall Street is drowning the country, and they’re doing it in neighborhoods and communities all over.”~Lerner
5. OCCUPY DEMOCRATS: Specifically target the DNC convention, being held at Bank Of America Arena, to make a point that this is not a partisan movement.  In spite of the fact that scores of Democrats have praised the Occupy movement, including President Obama.
“And occupiers and community groups and environmentalists and people from all over the country are going to be coming to Charlotte.  And in a way, I think we can think about it as the first convention.”~Lerner

 

6. BUY STOCK: An example is given by Learner of “a lot of people” buying shares of Bank Of America and taking their shares to the  annual shareholders meetings in San Francisco to vote on new polices for the company.  This is named The Confront Corporate Power Movement.

“Bank of America shares were recently down to $5, so a lot of people have bought stock and are planning to go to that meeting and try to be citizen shareholder—taxpayer shareholders, and have a say.”~Lerner

Beyond this blueprint for spring anarchy, other bright ideas were flowing in the interview.  Mr. Learner has seemingly solved the crippling sub-prime housing crisis by offering a utopian solution: banks pay for everyone’s mortgages.  “So in the case of Bank of America and Wells Fargo, there’s millions of people who are underwater, 11 million, in their homes, meaning that their homes are worth less now when they bought them, and they’re drowning in the debt. So there’s a campaign to say, let’s force the banks to write down the principal on those mortgages by $300 billion so that folks can stay in their homes. And that would create a million jobs. It would save people $5,000 on average a year in mortgage payments” Lerner predicted.  Piven offered an equally non-traditional solution to the housing crisis when she called for the occupation of foreclosed homes. “…they’re now experimenting with reoccupying foreclosed homes, for example, with ways of rallying to the defense of workers who are locked out or on strike.’’

It remains to be seen how deep the occupy movement will root itself into our American society.  Piven fantasizes, ”Protest movements have a long life—10, 15 years—and they are what we have to rely on to take our country back.”  Learner’s closing plea is unabashed in its socialist constructs, “Imagine building the kind of movement that can transform the country, that can really talk about redistributing wealth and power. And there’s never a better time to get involved.” We will soon see if the tent-bound  progressive armies show up to answer the call.

      Indeed, thus he has the newest executive order at hand. He federalizes the banks, and then can force them to not only rewrite all the morgages, he can force them to hand over the empty houses to his supporters to do with as they wish…instant autocratic rulership.

      More evidence that this is an anti capitalist/socialist movement, nothing else. Police depts need to mop them up and local courts need to fine the heck out of law breakers. As far as the right to protest… it means peaceful protests, and if they are peaceful, sanitary, and in public places, following the laws of the community… I say have at it. That is the American way.

      Personally, I wish we could make zombie target practice out of them to thin them out a bit.

      In all of human history prior to “America”, or since, name ONE government based on the same values that gave men control over their own immediate destiny and made them responsible to their Creator?

      It would seem, that mans destiny “IS” to be enslaved by his fellow man. Freedom and liberty require too much commitment for men to accept, generally speaking.

      Apparently, it‘s more ’acceptable’ to wait for government to come kill you in a genocidal cleansing or imprison you for speaking your mind, than it is to defend the life that God gave you with a demonstrable effort of good stewardship of that gift.

      CATB…be very careful. OWS wants confrontations. They know the media will spin them in OWS’s favour. Lerner, Ayers…they’ve all been pleading with their minions to draw in the tea parties. Now you’ve the unions mingled among them. Think they won’t be trying to start something to exploit in front of the cameras? Don‘t take OWS’s bait. Let OWS implode as it already has. They have not garnered public support and history teaches us that these “movements” must get more confrontational and violent to keep media attention. This is the stage Lerner is showing us right now. The left is as predictable as ever.

      @ Cat, how can think that the government will do anything about this when the administration won’t even honor subpenas (Reference AG Eric Holder and Congressman Issa)?
      @ Armed, will police do their job? Piven and Lerner state that they have and WILL organize the unions. The police are in the unions. Are the police going to be country first and OWS second, or visa versa? We will see. I sure hope so.

      I don’t believe Obama plans to use the Occupy movement to *cancel* the elections… I believe he intends to use them to *win* the elections.

      He cannot use his exec ordered “emergency powers” to postpone or cancel elections while there is a Republican-controlled Congress, because impeachment proceedings are run through the House of Reps.

      No, he plans to use the useful idiots in the Occupt movement this way:

      1) Occupy starts getting out of hand, not just breaking things or rioting, but actively shutting down whole cities in September and October – thereby creating an “emergency” situation;
      2) This enables Obama to use his own executive order to enact martial law – his domestic militia squashes Occupy more quickly than anybody anticipates;
      3) This ability to act quickly, decisively, and with amazingly successful results wins over Independents, especially when the election proceeds WITHOUT being shut-down, thereby discrediting Tea Partiers and conservatives as conspiracy theorists as unfit to lead.

      This allows Obama a legitimately earned 2nd term, as the hero who stopped America from setting itself on fire. Additionally, it discredits enough Republican candidates that he wins back the House, insulating himself from impeachment during his 2nd (and future) terms.

      The only possible variant of this is he might postpone elections in 1 or 2 cities (particularly those that usually lean blue, but might go red this time), but not the entire country, giving him a 2

      This could be interesting. Should the occupy movement turn violent with mass rioting in the streets, can the obama dictatorship continue to support their agenda and modus operandi?       Unlike the protest of the 60′s-70′s (I lived through) the citizenry is waking up and getting informed faster than back then. The key is alternative media outlets, and formation of patriot groups. Ultimately, it will be the real education of the populous that unravels the radical minority in this country. Unfortunately, we have people inside the government that share a Marxist belief.

      I just love the Pivens and Lerners that rail against this country while sane, productive people look around and say …………… where is it so bad ……….. the most successful, rich country in the history of man.       They plan to go to the bank stock holder meetings for the express purpose of disrupting them & making propaganda videos to help stir the pudding . The object is to create anarchy & chaos ,these idiots think that they are the cutting edge of a new social movement that will bring forth utopia . But the search for utopia always ends up the same way with a lot of folks who don’t want to walk in lockstep standing at the edge of a mass grave waiting for a pistol shot to the back of the head.

    I thought their strategy was
    1 – Yell incoherently and deny your communist, while standing in front of a communist banner
    2 – Bang your drum all day. Stink the place up, and annoy/spit on, everyone who supported you.
    3 – Poo on cars, poo in the streets, in general, poo where you sleep (Even dogs don’t do that)
    4 – Molest your female tentmate, but make sure you only do it in the camp. They just whistle at you.
    5 – cry when they tear down your library, throw a tantrum, then go back to your parents basement
    6 – Come back when it gets warm and make sure you remember the correct hand signals.
