‘Star-Mangled Banner’: Wait Until You See the Decrepit Flag Flying Over a Harlem School

It’s supposed to be Old Glory — a symbol of American pride and patriotism. So why has the New York Post dubbed one American flag flying over a Harlem, NY public school the “star-mangled banner?” Take a look:
“As a military person and a veteran, I feel like it’s highly disrespectful to have a flag like that that the kids walk by every day,” Coast Guard Reserve Commander Sergio Villaverde, who first spotted the decrepit flag in January, told the Post. “It is just a bad lesson to teach our kids.”
Given Villaverde’s outrage over the tattered flag hanging high above PS 28 for all to see, you would think the school would have done all it could to replace the eyesore, if not out of respect then for aesthetics. But not so. Even though the school’s principal quickly responded to Villaverde and said “We didn’t mean to be disrespectful” and pledged to fix it, the flag apparently still remains.
“Not only is it not supposed to be up in that condition, but it’s supposed to be disposed of in a respectful way,” he told the Post, which noted the flag is not illuminated at night, which is required for those who do not take the flag down every day.
His repeated calls to the city’s all-purpose hotline, 311, have also yielded no results. And when he contacted the Department of Education, it told him the issue was the local janitor’s problem.
That itself seems to point to a larger problem, however.

The black kids that walk by it do not respect the American flag, because they have been taught by their parents and their leaders that this isn‘t really their country and it won’t be until they can take it over and run it it themselves. You know, like Zimbabwe or South Africa. Or Detroit. Or Newark. Or Camden. Or Philadelphia. All disasters or disasters in the making, all close to imploding.
That’s why they despise whites of all stripes and attack them in mobs every chance they get.
And, the worst thing about their attitudes is that they’re encouraged to be even worse by whites in power, and within the population, who refuse to speak out against their attitudes and violence and call it for what it is, which is rabid black racism, for fear of being called racists themselves.
Unless these same whites grow a spine, this imploding empire is heading for civil war for certain.

I listened to conversations involving “getting checks”, hair appointments, and who‘s baby was who’s. My nephew is enjoying a successfull career and doing well despite having to attend a high school like that.

No amount of money is going to fix the bureaucracy of our school systems inability to educate our children. I agree, Harlem is not a rich area but if the school could not afford a new flag then put some pride into the children by having the kids organize fundraisers to replace the flag. Have them do bake sales, car washes, host a breakfast, go to businesses for donations and have an auction, have a benefit game of students against teachers (baseball, basketball or football). Call Al Sharpton and hit him up – he is a big star on MSNBC and stole enough blueberry pies in the past – this will be a nice penitence for him. Bottom line, let the children know the importance of flying a flag that shows honor to this country.

My assignment only lasted a couple of weeks but I have carried it’s significance to this day. I learned how to raise, lower and fold a flag as well as being taught other rules such as disposal. Why is it being left up to the janitor when it’s such a teachable moment for children?

In those instances, the perpetrators are arrested, oftentimes even when they didn’t do it. However, in the case of Trayvon Martin, the perpetrator said that it was self-defense and the police just said OK. Tell me this, if a black man had killed an unarmed white teenaged and simply claimed self defense, do you honestly think that the police would take him at his word?

It could be they have no funds for a new flag. I agree, the flag is unserviceable and should be retired (which is done by burning the flag with ceremony and respect). If the veteran is so bothered, instead of calling around to other agencies, why doesn’t he approach the principal of the school and either offer to replace the flag or to fund raise to replace the flag. When I was a teacher, the flag in my room was my personal possesion, purchased at Pearl Harbor. The time and date that it flew over the Arizona were marked on the package. Also, you can contact your Congressional Representative or Senator to have a flag flown over the Capitol or the White House.

In small town America we have dinners, dances, auctions to raise money for community causes all the time. We’re know community pride because we earn it.

Liberals and progressives should all be behind bars. They are an abomination of an American. How many more types of people must these people destroy before the vast majority of normal Americans catch on??? They’ve destroyed Native Americans, African Americans, naive Americans and are now burning the midnight oil on Hispanics. An absolute shame.

Our flag represents these sacrifices and much much more, but unfortunately many young people are not educated on our own history.

( too bad someone doesn’t teach proper care of the flag to these kids – am sure their parents won’t ! ) In my city one of the inner city, failing schools has just announced a longer school year for the kids – good news. Ready for the bad news ? Those days will include 2 way out of state bus trips to Memphis and some other city AFTER taking a class in ” The Civil Rights Movement.” Waste of gas and waste of tax money. Probably has another purpose …don’t you suppose ! Wink..wink…

Of course it could also be that they are all communist and dont care about our flag.
