Startling Video: Man Shoots Himself Point-Blank to Test Bulletproof Vest

Knowing that your bulletproof vest will actually protect you in the event of live fire is important. But important enough to test … on yourself?
This gentlemen, for a reason unknown to us, allegedly* decided to test his Glock at point-black range on his vest with the word “Vikingsson” on it. Watch with anticipation as he describes the gun and how he has almost “psyched” himself out of this (Warning: Strong language and startling footage):
Here’s a play-by-play in pictures:

Describing the gun.

Prepping himself mentally.

Right after shot.

Describing the pain and the vest.
As you can see, he stands with the gun facing his stomach, moving his finders up and down with nerves as he braces himself for the blow. The good news is it appears the vest works. The bad news is that it still hurts to shoot yourself point-blank even with a bulletproof vest. Walk it off man. Just walk it off.
And if you think this guy is crazy, you might find it hard to believe he’s not alone. Here, founder of bulletproof vest manufacturer Second Chance shoots himself in the chest — many times:
By the way, in case you’re wondering: there is such a thing as a Glock model 20 in 10mm.
*We’re going with “allegedly” in the body because you never know with videos like this. Although there’s no way to confirm the footage is real, to the naked eye it appears to be. If you have any other theories, let us know.

Every Mother and Father should purchase and mail their loved one one of these. Call it an art smock to get it pass Obama inspectors. In WWII family members mailed handguns to their sons overseas just in case. In many battles, Mon’s gift of a 45cal came in handy and save a life so the son could return to his Mom.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 7:43pmHe’s just wearing soft kevlar armor good for non-armor piercing round like the one he fired. Trust me, the troops have better body armor which includes soft kevlar as well as ceramic plates. With these two combined, they are able to withstand not only the round this man fired but also armor piercing rounds.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 3:59pmWhen I was stationed at Ft Bragg in the late ’70s, we had an idiot MP do the same thing while wearing an actual 2nd Chance vest one weekend. With a Colt Python nonetheless. Then this guy used a 10mm? Idiot too. That is like crashing your car into a bridge abutment to test the seat belts and airbags.
Report Post »Oh yeah, the guy at Bragg lived through it fine, but really bruised his chest severely. He just kept quiet about it while wrapping himself tightly (probably the only time he was ever wrapped tightly) and kept out of any of the medical clinics who would have reported a self inflicted wound. He‘s very lucky he didn’t break or crack any ribs.
One Man Progressive Wrecking Crew
Posted on February 24, 2012 at 3:59pmThat’s just not smart. You can break ribs, damage organs, even start a heart event with such a force. Kids die all the time just getting hit with little league baseballs being pitched at 40 mph or hit at 70 or 80.
Just dumb, that can be tested far easier, in fact Mythbusters could do a thing on it in 15 minutes with cadaver, and probably HAS. You could use a blow up doll.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 3:57pmI guess it’s too much to expect of the mind of a man who decides to shoot himself to prove the effectiveness of a bulletproof vest that he opt to wrap the vest around his leg before shooting vs. wearing it over his chest. He must have rationalized that it wouldn‘t be close enough to a ’real life’ situation if the vest were around his leg… plus, the girls wouldn’t be as impressed. :)

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 4:14pm@GOLDLADY: Point blank range is zero distance from the target OR the barrel of the weapon is in direct contact with the target / touching the target. Also, there is a company that makes bullet resistant vests called Point Blank.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 1:40pmThat is just retarded. There is nothing in this clip to suggest the guy is influenced by the devil or any of that hogwash.
The guy tested his equipment. If that is what he felt he needed to feel secure in it’s ability so be it. He assumed all of the risk. As soldiers we tested our body armor too. Granted we proped up against a rock and shot it from 25 ft out with an M4 but still if it makes him happy, more power to him.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 4:09pmSnow, Yeah, the guy who developed the Second Chance company did that in his advertising videos of the day. But, he was not only a design engineer he was also an expert pistolman who had tested his product probably thousands of other ways before he tried that. Essentially, he knew what he was doing and how to hold his pistol so that the round would not deflect upwards striking him in the head. Many of the early vest had that problem. I’ve worn several varieties of vests over the years, and am glad that I never had to have one prove to me how effective it was. Would never have tried that either. There are just too many other things that could go wrong.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 3:58pm@THE-MONK: There was only one round in the chamber and after he fired, he dropped the EMPTY weapon on the floor or the couch. When he picked up the empty weapon, the slide was locked to the rear, which happens when the last round is fired. Either way, this guy is an idiot: sometimes bullet RESISTANT vests will fail.
