No Grand Jury in Trayvon Martin Case Says State Attorney

Tuesday was set to be a pivotal day in the ongoing investigation into the Trayvon Martin case that has rocked headlines and dominated political discussion for the last month. It was supposed to be the day when a group of citizens were set to make up a grand jury tasked with determining if there was enough evidence to arrest George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed the 17-year-old in late February.

But now the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that State Attorney Angela Corey has announced that there will be no grand jury in the investigation of the Martin shooting:

There will be no grand jury in the Trayvon Martin shooting death investigation, said State Attorney Angela Corey.

“The decision should not be considered a factor in the final determination of the case,” a press release from the State Attorney’s office shows.

Gov. Rick Scott appointed Corey, state attorney in Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, as the Special Prosecutor on March 22.

‘At this time, the investigation continues and there will be no further comment from this office,’ state attorney officials said.”

The decision on whether to proceed with charges now rests solely on Corey:

That decision comes as Bay News 9 reports there has been buzz on social media encouraging people to wear hoodies and show up at the Seminole County Courthouse Tuesday to show their support for Martin.

    I’m not saying Zimmerman is guilty, but justice can only be done when due process of the law is followed. The lead investigator wanted to file charges against Zimmerman, because he says his story did not add up. The Prosecutor and the D.A. whom drove 4 hrs to get to the Police Station overruled the detective. Well……Zimmerman’s father is a retired Judge and his mom works in the court system.

    Due process does not get followed when you get preferential treatment!!!!!!!!

      We don’t yet know the facts. The protesters are keeping the pressure on the police and the prosecutor, so I believe the truth will come out. What concerns me most at this point is mob rule. If the mob rules, justice in this case and any that follows will not be done. Lets get the facts and then, whatever the outcome, we must be willing to move on.

      Zimmerman is not guilty. Those people using this are guilty of intereferring with Justice when they attempt Chicago politics and unrest to get their way. It is not Zimmerman they want but a bone of contention so they think they can wrest power away from those who are in a position to dispense justice.

      Is this preferential treatment? No, I mean is it *really* preferential treatment?

      Think about this: This story even has the attention of the President of the United States and people across the world. There’s an old addage that you can indict a ham sandwich. You‘re honestly telling me with this type of immense scrutiny on this case and the ease with which a state’s attorney can bring charges, they’re not going after him because of preferential treatment?

      You clearly see it differently, but what I see here is a State‘s Attorney who doesn’t think she can get the charges to stick. Don’t get me wrong: Personally, I’d like to see it go to court so a jury can decide whether Zimmerman did anything wrong, but what good would that do if it leads to either a political conviction or committing a wrong in the name of “justice?” Yeah, I suppose there‘s a chance he’s acquitted, then Miami erupts the same way L.A. did in 1992. How is any of that “justice?”

      Bottom line, if you‘re a state’s attorney and it‘s proven that you’ve allowed influencial people get special favors, you get disbarred. Do you really think that’s what the SA is aiming for here?

      C’mon! Apply some common sense!

      @berlich Mob rule is of no concern. The mob as you call it is a group of citizens that want justice done. The facts seem to point in only one direction. That being 2nd. degree murder. A 28 year old adult, followed, accosted, initiated a fight, shot and killed a kid he outweighed by 70 lbs. If you don‘t want to make the more than obvious conclusion that’s fine. Most people here start with the answer and back into the question. Particularly when the facts don’t fit there position. But to represent the concern of citizens regarding the application of justice as mob rule is a best a cheap diversion.

      If that’s true, then it is clearly murder. But when the police told him not to follow the kid Zimmerman said “OK”. He also told police he was heading back to his car when Trayvon jumped him from behind. A witness said the same thing. If that’s true, it changes everything. It may still be manslaughter, but I don’t have enough facts to know yet.

      It also means an enormous loss for gun rights. Everytime a gun rights issue is considered in any state all we’ll here is “Florida’s stand your ground law.” It was a poorly written law just begging for some idiot cowboy like Zimmerman to slay somebody in the streets cause he’s such a man.     George Zimmerman will probably never be charged with anything.
    Sunday I listened to the tape of Zimmerman calling about the suspicious person and the tape with the cries for help. I had never listened to them before. Just read transcripts. My husband listened too and agrees. That WAS Trayvon Martin crying for help. I know it as sure as his mother knows it. As sure as team Zimmerman knows it WASN’T George. I don’t need an enhanced audio to hear it. I wondered why none of the witnesses recognized Zimmerman’s voice if it was him crying for help. They knew him. He was their neighborhood watch captain. Now I know. Because it WASN’T Zimmerman. Zimmerman’s father, brother, attorney and Oliver make up new versions of what they say happened every week. They can’t even get their stories straight. To defend George is one thing, but to make up stories and say it was George crying for help is shameful. I hope the Zimmerman’s have to hide for the rest of their lives. All you Zimmerman supporters can direct your hateful replies to me now, but I will still know it was Trayvon Martin crying for help. All your racism and hate can’t change that.

      Well the problem is Trayvon’s father admitted it wasnt his sons voice crying for help. The eye witness who saw the fight said it was the man in the red shirt on the ground(Zimmerman) calling for help.

      So based on that, you are completely wrong. The fact you said “I hope the Zimmerman’s have to hide for the rest of their lives.” shows you are a moron who is more than likely been race baited into this story. Congrats on being a useful idiot.

      It is now a certainty that Martin not only returned to confront, attack, but was the one on top doing all of the punching… so, why would Martin scream for help? The beating wasn’t going quickly enough, or severely enough and so he needed help pounding Zimmerman into the concrete? Is it reasonable to conclude that the one that returned to attack, on top, and with the advantageous arm length of a 6’3” male, needed help? Or, is it far more reasonable to conclude that the one with his back on the ground with a much shorter, disadvantaged arm length having his face pummeled and head slammed into the pavement was the one screaming for help? Martin’s own father initially said it was not his son’s voice… and immediately after the shooting, and before strategic maneuvering, falsifications occurred, Zimmerman told police, “I screamed for help but no one came.” Zimmerman said this before it was a point of contention. He could not have known, at that point, that it was to become an issue of dispute… he simply didn’t have the time, the clarity of mind, nor the gift of prophecy, prediction to utter such a key revelation.

      This is the same lack of objectivity that although on film smoking crack with a prostitute, re-elected Marion Berry… because thumbing their noses at whitey was more important than electing a competent man of integrity.

      The City of Sanford removed the evidence from their web site with this statement.

      “The office of the State Attorney, 4th Judicial Circuit, State Attorney Angela Corey has requested that the City of Sanford remove all reports, videos and audio pertaining to the Martin/Zimmerman case from the website. Their office has provided legal justification for the action and they believe further access to the information will have an adverse effect on their efforts to come to a resolution to this investigation.”

      This concerns me. What is the unmentioned legal justification? Do they not want people to see the evidence that Zimmerman’s actions were well with the laws of the State of Florida?

      I assume that I am not the only person who copied the files that have been deleted. If Zimmerman is charged, the files will reappear on the Internet.

    The Sanford Police Department removed much of the content from the Trayvon Martin Investigation page today, per the request of the State Attorney, replacing it with the following note:

      Snow……..did you know that the U.N. is getting involved in this case? the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay publicly demanded an investigation and has also expressed concerns about the Stand Your Ground law.
      This is playing right in to Obama’s martial law and blue helmets being deployed in America.Just trying to connect some dots here.

      I have heard of the matter with the UN. The door is now further open for Kaiser Obama to invite them in and try to enforce the UN control over our sovreign territory and laws of the land. Daily more and more of Obama’s treasonous activities are shown and no one does nothing.
