State Rep Objects to Airport Search Demand…Will Take Ferry Back to Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska state lawmaker is making her way back to the state Capitol after refusing a pat-down search at a Seattle airport, a spokeswoman said.
Rep. Sharon Cissna underwent a body scan as she was preparing to leave Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Sunday and was then required to undergo the pat-down by Transportation Safety Administration officials, said Michelle Scannell, her chief of staff.
Scannell said the TSA called for the pat-down because the scan showed Cissna had had a mastectomy.
The TSA, on its website, says security officers “will need to see and touch your prosthetic device, cast or support brace as part of the screening process.”
Scannell did not elaborate beyond the statement. TSA spokesman Kawika Riley, after being asked to respond to Cissna’s comments, issued a general statement that did not mention Cissna or the Anchorage Democrat’s claims.
Scannell, in her statement, said Cissna was ordered to submit to a “very intrusive pat-down or leave the airport.” She said Cissna, who had been in Seattle for medical treatment, was scheduled to return to Alaska via ferry.
Scannell could not immediately say how soon Cissna would return. The state Legislature is currently in the midst of a 90-day session.
Riley, in a general statement, said the TSA is “sensitive to the concerns of passengers who were not satisfied with their screening experience and we invite those individuals to provide feedback to TSA.”
Riley did not immediately return a phone message Monday.
Both full body scanners and pat-down searches have come under increasing criticism as the TSA has stepped up its airport security measures.

But unfortunately both “sides” of American politics sees only butterflies and sunshine when their side does something grossly unconstitutional. It’s only when the other “side” takes power that they sit up and take notice.
These schisms are destroying our nation. Divide and conquer, the oldest trick in the book, and people *still* keep falling for it.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 8:53amI went through the TSA screening on Sunday. I had a 10 oz. bottle of shower gel, but it was mostly gone and there was less than three ounces of product in it (the limit you can take). Yet because it was in a 10 oz. bottle they wouldn’t let me keep it and I had to surrender it to them. These must be the same rocket scientists that have to use a cash register to tell them how much change to give back in fast food restaurants. Somehow I don’t feel any safer when they are in charge of my airport security. I‘m pretty sure I’ll turn into the “don’t touch my junk” guy if it ever goes that far.

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 7:53amI agree. I fly for business almost every week. Last week I carried my wallet in my hand into the whole body scanner rather then feed it through the x-ray, because I had just read the stories of the TSA agents stealing money from passengers. Carrying your wallet in your hand is perfectly acceptable (at least it was, they make up the rules as they go along) to the TSA. They just search your wallet in front of your presence. The TSA agent searched my wallet and then told me, get this,
“Your wallet is too big to hand carry, you need to put it through the x-ray next time.”
I told her I read about TSA stealing from passengers and did not trust them. Guess what? Yep I get additional screening. Pat down and hand swipes for explosives.
This is a clear violation of my constitutional rights under the 4th amendment, but what am I going to do? Quit traveling? I have to feed my family. Something has to be done.

Why would TSA want that ? So that they can send their thugs to intimidate passengers , @ their homes?
Or to put them on some kind of “ no fly list” for future harrassment by TSA ?
TSA knows the right things to do for security. They choose NOT to do them, and complaining by passengers won’t help one bit.
TSA is not even about security anymore. They are just one big union with no accountability and secure jobs , just like teachers

I have seen the results of TSA actions first hand, when my own mother, a elderly lady, was made to go through the extra screening and when she asked why, was threatened on the spot with arrest for her question. When she asked for a police officer to be there at the search one of the three people who surrounded her then smashed her shoulder with a flashlight and laughed about it afterwards.
So far the TSA has refused to do anything about the matter, and legal charges in court are being carried out.
