Stewart Slams GOP Reaction to Gadhafi’s Death: ‘What The F*** is Wrong With You?’

On the “Daily Show” last night, Jon Stewart weighed in on the death of Moammar Gadhafi from a number of comedic angles– as well lambasting the Republican reaction for what he considers cynical politics.
The death of the equal-parts brutal and bizarre Libyan dictator has caused media reactions that overall are positive, but some GOP members and right-leaning critics of the administration believe it’s too early to spike the football in the end zone.
Others, like Senators McCain and Rubio, praised the efforts of the British and French rather than applauding the White House.
Stewart wasn’t having any of that sour talk. In response to the GOP hesitation to full-throated praise, Stewart told them not to worry because “Obama‘s policies can’t be vindicated every day.”
He thinks Gadhafi’s death was an unqualified victory, and the GOP should have fallen in line with the rest and praised Obama.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 5:27pmQaddafi praised Obama as a “friend”. He was doing EVERYTHING to try and please the USA and the West in general. While Bush was in office, he voluntarily gave up his nuclear program to avoid getting on our bad side after the war started in Iraq and Afghanistan. While certainly, his distant past is full of confrontation with USA, he had turned over a new leaf with regards to US relations for the most part.
So the USA through NATO sends supplies and runs deadly sorties against Qaddafi including the attack that destroyed his escape convoy and resulted in his running into the drainage pipe to escape the attack, which of course is where he ended up getting executed.
What does this say to any leaders of Mid Eastern countries? That the USA cannot be trusted, and that playing nice with us very well could end up costing them their lives. You call this a sane foreign policy??

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 6:28pmThe guy did some messed up things Im sure but he wasnt what they making him out to be. Ghadaffi, believed that housing was a right, so much that he made his own parents sleep in a tent until he had housed all the Lybian people, thus his father died in a tent in the 90′s. He built the worlds largest man made river to bring water to his people. He believed medical care was a right and the Lybian people had free medical care, and if the Lybian doctors couldnt treat you the Lybian govt would fly you to wherever and pay for your treatment. He gave first time married couples $50000 to buy a house if housing wasnt available. He kicked al quieda out his country and helped hunt down terrorists. And finally to the real reason he became a “boogeyman” He was holding meetings with the African Union to produce a gold backed currency, thus making all FIAT money obsolete overnight. He was trying to unite the African countries into the United States of Africa with a gold backed currency. A divided africa is more easily conguered and stripped of its abundant resources not to mention you cant have a gold backed currency threatening our paper money system. Everyone would flock to their currency, because its a sound investment and a guaranteed return on investment, and we would be left with nothing but green toilet paper. Thats the evil dictator they killed. But dont worry, the new Govt will be so much better for both the Lybian people and the world

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 12:36pmAmericans inherited many sacred gifts. These included our constitution, stable republic form of government, sacrifices of our forefathers and wisdom by the grace of God. At the end the gifts from our founding fathers and God were squandered as throwing “pearls to Swine.”
Barack and Michelle felt entitled by birth and this was acerbated by their status as President and First (Lady). Now for the first time nothing was beyond their reach. If Michelle is the First Lady, who was number two? They behaved and spent our money like they were King and Queen and the country belonged to them. Michelle flew into a rage at the end of their reign, being told she could not take another lavish tax payer all expense paid vacation to Spain. It sometimes does rain on the plains in Spain. Michelle modeled herself after and emulated Marie Antoinette. She would often come out of the White House closet, wearing a seventeen century style flowing gown. Her ruby slippers had real African rubies. Even the secret service was forced to bow before her person. Michelle at all times had twenty maids awaiting, ten “yes women”, one fanny flatterer, two makeup artists and one Kobe Steak Cooker. The growing number of hungry, unemployed citizens resent their flaunting our former wealth and their supposed superiority. Queen Michelle saw the ending of her reign and hoped to avoid the same fate of Marie.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 2:53pmWas the divinity of these gifts revealed to you on gold plates or were they revealed to you through auditory hallucination? The Constitution and republican government were created by mankind for mankind in a decidedly secular manner. How is it that you can bend your Christian narrative to include things that came about in the 18th Century? Seems a lot like wishful thinking to me.
As far as the first family is concerned: WHAT??? All modern first ladies travel. Laura Bush traveled just as much as Michelle Obama does, you wouldn’t want Michelle to break from that type of tradition would you? Oh and Marie Antoinette was chosen by God to be royalty and had plenty of biblical justifications for her excess. People who cloak their actions in the absolutism of religious certainty are always the worst, aren’t they?
By the way, what’s the deal with the class warfare type rhetoric here? The First Family buys their own clothing and you obviously begrudge their personal success, you godless socialist you.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 6:45pmI think its illegal for us to oust/kill/assassinate anybody in the world. Americas power stops at its borders. The idea that we can kill anyone in the world at whim is dangerous and only threatens our national security even more than it does any good. There is no nation that can stand toe to toe with our military might. However, we started out as a gleaming beacon of hope and a model for the rest of the world. For the first time in history a govt was established based on self-governing principles of the people. We started out as a Republic, but now weve been shifted into a Democracy where 51% of the people rule 49%. We have become the bully on the block. The idea that we can use force against someone or some individual just because he doesnt do as we say is not the way our nation was intended to be. What do the muslims want from us? to get out of the middle east, so get out! They particularly hate us because we are in Saudi Arabia, their holy country. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that that is the only viable solution to this problem. Unless you want endless wars, millions killed through sanctions, absolute hatred towards the U.S., and eventually the total collapse of America through a financial meltdown because we simply cant afford it anymore. We will go down just like every other empire that stood before us. Not through military invasion, but through economic meltdown of its financial system because it was spread too thin and couldnt pay its bills

Saddam didn’t even sponsor terrorism (as Islamists hated him), but only repression and brutality against his own people: yet Gadhafi did both. Can you at least agree that the country is better off without Gadhafi? If not, well, I assume you were among the forefront calling for impeachments for fighting a war in Iraq.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 12:44pmLOCKED, you are liar at worst or quite confused at best. saddam was a ‘global’ sponsor of terrorism. He paid a cash reward to the families of homicide bombers in Israel. He planned the assassination of a US President. Launched missiles against Iran and later Israel. And significant evidence suggests saddam helped support the 1993 WTC attack as Iraqi agents were among the conspirators that were arrested and convicted. I guess your failure to acknowledge saddam’s evil is your blind rage against W. I’m happy that Gadafi is gone, but his reign was far less bloody than the Iraqi butcher. and unlike with the case of Osama, Obama had little to do with this coup. Either praise or blame the Libyan people. They did the vast bulk of the fighting. I only hope that Libya does not follow the example of Egypt or Iran–though they probably will.
Report Post »Locked
Posted on October 21, 2011 at 3:01pmWeird, my response to Dacrunk never came up (or was deleted). The gist of it was: 1993 WTC did not involve Saddam (as per the 9/11 commission); no concrete evidence was found to connect Saddam to an assassination attempt on President Bush (besides that several, but not all, of the planners were Iraqi); missiles were launched during wars; and “reward” to the Palestinian families was technically payment after death; Saddam also paid families of those killed by Hamas or radical groups. An attempt to buy goodwill from the Palestinian people because, as said, Saddam was no friend to Islamic militants.
I should revise my statement to say he didn’t sponsor jihad or Islamic fundamentalism; his actions could rightly be called terrorism, but not of a religious type, a la 9/11.

Gonzo wrote: “Yea Jon, we remember how happy you all were when we pulled Sadam out of his hole. ” presumably with sarcasm.
Jon Stewart: “Here you have a guy who’s a dictator, a ruthless dictator, the Butcher of Baghdad, the guy’s been in charge forever…”
Yeah, doesn‘t sound like he’s really on Saddam’s side there. Now, argue the wars all you like: most Americans agree the Iraq war was a terrible idea. I imagine most agree Libya was a terrible idea as well. But most also agree the world is better without Saddam Hussein and Momar Gadhafi. Going solely on that idea, I would say Stewart sticks perfectly to his point: these were “bad dictators” and it’s a good thing they are out of power.
Plenty of other reasons to pick apart the wars themselves, but taking out a dictator hostile to the country? Especially one who actively sponsors state terrorism like Gadhafi? Not a bad thing for American interests.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 12:21pmLocked, I don’t agree that Obama did right. The only reason NATO was able to track down Qaddafi is because of the tools that were given to the military by President Bush. Obama railed about how evil these tools are, but now that those tools allowed NATO to murder Qaddafi, Obama wants credit? Are you kidding me?

“The only reason NATO was able to track down Qaddafi is because of the tools that were given to the military by President Bush.”
I would like some cites on this that waterboarding, the PATRIOT Act, or prisoners at Guantanamo Bay led to tracking down Gadhafi. I‘m not saying you’re wrong: I‘m just saying I haven’t heard anything about it. It‘s quite possible the MSM isn’t reporting it.
Or perhaps there are other tools President Bush established that led to them; I’d like to know those as well. Again, not saying you’re wrong: just that I haven’t heard anything about these techniques leading to this capture.
Honestly I’ve avoided the Libyan engagement almost all together; I don’t think military action was justified.

Started the military action in Libya, for one
Used the might of the US military to support the rebels for two
Brought in NATO after the initial offensive, for three
As said, he handled it well.
