‘Stop Interrupting me!’: Conservative Author Katie Pavlich Goes Toe-to-Toe With NYT Columnist Over Obamacare

Author Katie Pavlich and New York Times Columnist Charles Blow Tussle Over Obamacare on CNNs Piers Morgan Tonight

Just because the Supreme Court has ruled on the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” doesn’t mean the fiery debate surrounding the controversial the law will die down. Nothing displayed that more clearly than when Townhall‘s Katie Pavlich went on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Thursday and traded blows with New York Times columnist Charles Blow (ironic?) over the president’s healthcare plan, now “constitutional” as a “tax.”

The segment began by focusing on GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s reaction to the decision, with Blow accusing him of “having a chair in every corner of the room,” including in his position on healthcare reform. Then as the Left often does, he continued by accusing conservatives, like Romney and Pavlich, of not caring about minorities and poor people and it is “ridiculous and ”disingenuous“ for the ”Right“ to pretend like they do now that Obamacare has passed because all of their policies ”basically take a knock at” them.

“It is so disingenuous for people who are on the Right who are not even in this category to then throw up their hands in a huff and say, ‘oh this is a tax’… You’re not even subject to this,” he said.

Pavlich replied, saying that the Supreme Court decision to uphold the law as tax will affect everyone, including the middle class. She also accused Blow of denying that it was a tax. To be fair, it doesn’t appear that Blow actually denied that Obamacare is indeed a tax.

Nonetheless, that’s important to note because this is where the fireworks started.

“Who said that?” Blow asked. “What we won‘t be doing is putting words in someone else’s mouth. I did not say it was not a tax, so let’s start back from the truth… the truth will set you free.”

“Stop interrupting me,” Pavlich said for the second time.

While she could still get a word in, Pavlich tried to refute Blow‘s claims that Republicans don’t care about healthcare for poor people or minorities, however, she didn’t get very far as a few moments later Blow interrupted her again.

“Stop interrupting me!” Pavlich said again, this time raising her voice.

“No, I’m not going to do that because you are not going to say things that are not true on the air… and attribute them to me and expect me to sit silently by and let you do that. That’s not gonna happen.”

“I’m speaking to people listening, I’m not talking to you, Mr. Blow,” Pavlich replied. “Back to the point…”

Pavlich went on to argue that it was ironic that Obamacare would be termed the “Affordable Care Act” because it is anything but affordable. She said premiums will increase and people who are “just on the bubble” of being able to have health insurance will no longer be able to afford it under the president’s plan.

“This costs a lot of money, it doesn’t decrease costs and for this to be called the Affordable Care Act is, in your words, ‘disingenuous,’” Pavlich added.

“No, you’re disingenuous,” Blow shot back.

“I rather like the dynamic we are creating tonight.” Morgan chimed in.

Maybe with more fiery segments like this, CNN’s primetime ratings wouldn’t be at a 21 year low.

      Having lived under a socialized medical system, I am not surprised that people like Blow get it wrong. He is under-informed and can‘t see the long term psychological effect this has on society when it is constantly used to play on people’s fears and insecurities. Not to mention that people who have never known high quality health care do not know what they are missing–so there is not a lot of noise about it coming from, let’s say, Europe. What is great is that there are people like Katie Pavlich who really do get it. (How does she know so much, I wonder?)

      She somehow figured out that it is once again the lower and middle classes who get the worst of it.
      Care quality goes down for them, waste is rampant, as in practically any government agency, while the wealthy who can afford it pay for private insurance, doctors and clinics.

      Have you actually read the bill? I know, I know, no one has! I can’t believe I am going to say this (as a tea party, small government person) but the federal government is simply not BIG enough to impliment this law. There are reporting requirements for Doctors which are so large they will have to hire additional staff (skyrocketing health care costs) and they will need to be LOTS of people at the HHS Dept. to read all of these reports (hello deficit spending). There are reporting requirements for Health Insurance Providers and Employers. There are new taxes on employers who provide excelent health care coverage to their employees (so if you have good coverage, your employer will likely drop it or reduce it). There has to be federal employees to impliment and regulate all of that. If you are too poor to purchase health insurance there has to be a department to give you assistance in purchasing health insurance. So that department will need federal employees to verify that you are too poor and thus qualify for assistance. Oh and there are pages of regulations still not written. So how does the government intend to enforce the mandate…Self Reporting combined with holding your tax refund hostage until you comply. So in short if you do not self report and you do not get a refund, they simply do not have the manpower to do anything about it. Change your withholding to exempt. Don’t pay in. Write a check at the end of the year and tell them to p!ss off!

      he said “…republicans say it is a tax…”, so indirectly he disagrees, therefore must think it is a tax. It was the SCOTUS that said it was a tax, Obama said it is not a tax. Can ANYONE make up their minds or are they all stuck in brain neutral? This whole thing is a travesty and anti-Constitutional, and the fact the SCOTUS did not have the b_lls to say so is cowardly. They took it upon themselves to prevent riots on the streets by the left, but come November if we don’t take complete power back from the communists, we are DOOMED.     I know a few black people I like, alright. They are trying to gain power and do not know what power is or how to use it for the most part. Most of them seem to think they can dress up in suits and wear jewlry and drive fancy cars is what it is all about. They have responsibility just like their selfish counterparts only to their own immediate wants. Just because someone is chocolate, poor brown or dunes brown or any color does not put them above the law or their responsibility.       Wait until everyone wakes up to the fact that the only people who will get FREE healthcare are the ones already getting it through Medicaid. Wait until the ones “on the bubble,” as she put it suddenly can’t afford health care and even though they work for a living, have to stand in line with all those on Medicaid. Wait until the Medicaid rolls are over burdened and no one gets care. Wait until only the rich can afford health care, and the poor get hurded into mass appointments like cattle.

Obama will veto any bill put on his desk trying to repeal it. And do you really believe Romney will veto conservative legislation put on his desk, because I can GUARANTEE Obama will. The president has very little power, except that of the veto pen! Remember legislation begins with congress. A president can use the bully pulpit to push it through and champion it or he can veto it. That is his power in a nutshell. And I have a hard time seeing Romney veto conservative legislation, but I KNOW Obama will. So take your they are the same crap elsewhere. The darker colors just stand out and we are more apt to know they are against whites for sure. We will know and be alert, but will weigh it out justly.     Katie, let them ‘crow’ now, even though the state-run media issued a warning 48 hours ago that had the SCOTUS decision gone our way, “it would not be acceptable for republicans to spike the football’.

      Since the SCOTUS ruled the mandate was in fact a tax that would mean all waivers are voided. As the only people that can be exempted from a tax are those specificly mentioned in the bill itself.

      His base is now energized and so is ours…even more so so we can have a chance at repealing Obamacare…but do you really believe Romney will put the country through that? For REALZ? I doubt it! Hell move onto other things like the Iran War we’ll already be in by then.

      You have a lot more faith in Romney than I do, man. Personally, if there’s a slightly-rabid three-toed sloth on the ballot, he’d get my vote before Odildo the Mad would. I’m not crazy enough to vote for a third-party candidate (I did that in ‘92, and have regretted that every day since then), so if Mitt’s the guy on the other ticket, I’ll vote for him, but only while holding my nose. I still believe to my soul that the sloth would be a better choice.

      And now the law of unintended or unforseen consequences kicks in. How are the unions going to get exemptions under this ruling since it has been officially deemed a tax by SCOTUS whether the “Preezy” accepts it or not? Maybe get another special dispensation from the “Preezy”? A discriminatory tax exemption for union members? Methinks that idea will get sunk faster than the Titanic.

      Looks like Rev. Wright was partially correct – only it’s the Dems chickens that are coming home to roost. Aw shucks!

    There you have it! The law was not about health care but about redistribution. The war on poverty on super steroids. It will increase the ranks of the poor while reducing the wealth of the other 90%. BHO says this will be good for America. The dollars will attract corruption on a massive scale. “Good” is dependent on perspective.

      Look what they did to Detroit. This is what they brought on themselves. They do not have the ability to create, motivate or be consistent. They want it by whatever means, devor or destroy it and want more. What have they done in their own communities besides teach their own to hate and blame someone else instead of taking individual responsibility. Just stand down because you are not getting mine. There are more ways, as it is said, to skin a cat than one. Do your parts as good citizens and teach your children responsibility and you will not have to want what someone else has.

      One of the best things that has happened since this regime was elected is that Mama Grizzlies are no longer sitting at home biting their tongues. They are speaking up and out and doing it with logic, not resorting to gutter language, and certainly not throwing out trite terms such as racism. (N.B. I am not saying that racism is trite, but the term has been used so much recently that it no longer carries the gravitas it once had thanks its overusage by the left.)
