‘Stop the Lady Gaga!’: Filipino Christian Youths Protest Pop Star‘s ’Questionable’ Concert

Filipino Protesters Stand Against Lady Gaga Over Nudity & Provocative Lyrics

MANILA, Philippines (The Blaze/AP) — She may have been “born this way,” but one thing is for sure — many religious youths outside of the U.S. are less than content with pop star Lady Gaga’s quirky and edge behavior. Scores of Christian youths in the Philippines chanted “Stop the Lady Gaga concerts” at a rally Friday calling for the pop diva‘s shows here to be canceled despite assurances from authorities that they won’t allow nudity and lewd acts.

Sold-out crowds and angry protests followed Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” Asian tour. Fans younger than 18 were banned from the Seoul concerts over complaints her lyrics and costumes were too sexually provocative, and she was denied a concert permit in Indonesia by police under pressure from Islamic hard-liners.

Filipino Christian youths flash the thumbs-down signs as they chant "Stop the Lady Gaga concerts" during a rally, calling for the cancellation of the singer's May 21-22 concerts, outside the Pasay City Hall in Pasay, south of Manila, Philippines, Friday, May 18, 2012. (AP Photo/Bullit Marquez)

About 70 members of a group called Biblemode Youth Philippines rallied in front of the Pasay City Hall in metropolitan Manila. They said they were offended by Lady Gaga’s music and videos, in particular her song “Judas,” which they say mocks Jesus Christ.

Lady Gaga has secured papers for two concerts Monday and Tuesday, but Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto said he told organizers to ensure that “they follow the rules and regulations stipulated in the concert permit earlier provided by the city government.”

“Although we respect artistic and musical expressions, I won’t allow anyone or any group to provide acts which may be questionable in a way at any venue under my jurisdiction,” he said in a statement. “We reminded the producers of Lady Gaga’s concert that the show and the event as a whole shall not exhibit any nudity or lewd conduct which may be offensive to morals and good customs.”

Protest leader and former Philippine Congressman Benny Abante says his group plans to file a case against Lady Gaga and concert organizers if she sings “Judas” at her Manila gigs.

Organizers from Ovation Productions did not immediately provide details about the upcoming concerts, including whether Lady Gaga will perform “Judas.”

Former Manila Mayor Jose Atienza said the singer and organizers can be punished for offending race or religion. Under the penal code in the conservative, majority Roman Catholic country, the penalty can range from six months to six years in prison, although no one has been convicted recently.

Atienza and a prominent lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, met earlier Friday with Calixto to press their concern about the concerts, which will be held at the newly constructed seaside Mall of Asia arena with a seating capacity of 20,000.

The Rev. Reyzel Cayanan from Biblemode Youth Philippines said he will lead another protest march and a candlelight vigil Saturday near the concert venue.

The woman is in show biz to make money. More follow her than those of us who don’t. I simply don’t like watching people like her. Most of her moves are like the ones on dancing with starz, which I don’t watch either. I don’t call this dancing, I call it a sexual review and doggy moves. Not dancing anymore.

I never understood why people think this female creature has any talent. Same with Bruce Springstein — he just yells and screams along with loud music. Same with so many of the so called big names — they are talentless imbeciles who have some marketing company basically implant the suggestion that these pigs have talent into the minds of millions. Howard Stern is an example of a failure — no real talent, no real skills, no real anything to give to society except dirty talk. As if that is really funny, at least not to a person in his or her right mind. Think of it, before the past century or so, these multi-millionaires with foul mouths, lousy voices, and no talent would have been juggling balls in the street, singing in the corners with a basket in front of them, or working as the court jester, which is all Howard Stern is really. Anyway, God bless the filipino ladies!!!

Good! Christian kids should not be on the side of sodomy, fornication, lust, greed and envy! Why a so called christian would have anything to do with “lady ga ga” is beyond me. It is sad how we as christian leaders look the other way when our kids run after these damn devils like a mule in heat! They are followers, when we as leaders are really supposed to make them leaders. It seems as though one certain group is making leaders while America is breeding followers! I hope it changes soon if not we are doomed!

BRYAN B, If you can find it, read Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides. It’s the book that the movie The Great Raid was based on. The only decent role I’ve ever seen James Franco play too. There are excellent descriptions of heroic Filipino People and how they suffered some rather heavy losses while assisting the 6th Rangers in their mission to break out the POWs from Camp Cabanatuan. The Japanese plan was to kill all POWs if the Americans were to get close.

Remember how people used to react to rock and roll back in the day: devil’s music; noise; no talent. Listen to that same music today and it is totally awesome and classic. Right?

I love Lady Gaga because her music and her videos are entertaining; not because I wanna walk around in meat costumes. Would I ever go around wearing extravagant stuff that she does when she performs? No! Can I appreciate the beauty in most of it? Yeah, I can.

For the last 50+ years the gov‘t has been pushing the political correct indoctrination down white people’s throat, after 50 years of this – rap is normal, high crime is normal, high divorce rate is normal, drug use is normal, it’s all become a joke.
Don‘t believe me watch some old movies from the 1940’s 50′s they are great clean movies without all the garbage of today, the all white schools back then didn’t have the problems of today.

Ending segregation started the degeneration of America

The reason you call yourself a “conservative” is a way to hide from your father that you have been with a colored guy, I’m right yup thought so, it‘s not your fault thats what the gov’t wants, thats how they break us down from a once conservative society.

Rap takes as much “skill” to “perform”as it takes to recite a nursery rhyme
with pounding drums and a one second stolen soundbite.
I made hilarious rap singles in the 1980′s. Made fun of the genre’ even back then. Nothing’s changed. It’s still fair game for anyone with even a molecule of musical or comedic sense.

And I’ll add this. Rap is a heavily conformist form of monolithic expression. By the sheer fact that academic performance is rated by the ability to memorize the exact “opinion” of professors and earlier teachers. Rap depends on the ability to memorize lyrics in the same manner as a lesson taught by teachers that have no interest in thought outside their own world. Hence, the genre’ is essentially liberal, closed minded and thought debasing in its conception.

Don’t be stupid. I personally don‘t like Lady GaGa’s music, but I can still admit that the girl has talent. You don’t get accepted to prestigious arts schools like she did without being talented in the arts.

She has certainly squandered her talent but the talent is still there.

@Doctor Nordo – My father would disagree with you. She’s a marketing genius. She filled a vacuum with her own schtick and has made a fortune. In my day Pat Benatar was a classically trained opera singer (even had an album) but made her fortune with the bizzaro world of the 80′s MTV culture.

      That’s marketing!

ENCINOM: You really wanna be a “FREEthinker?”

John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
      ——————————————————————————–
Romans 8:2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
      ——————————————————————————–
1 Corinthians 7:22 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord’s freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ’s slave.
      ——————————————————————————–
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

John 8:36 “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

@girlnurse of course the “freedom” in the bible included the freedom to own slaves, sell your daughters, kill your children if they bring dishonor to the family. Keep on cutting and pasting the bible.

Okay, gimps, if you haven’t read any of my posts and replies on this topic, let me start off by telling you flat out that I am hardcore conservative, I’m catholic, and I love Lady Gaga. I’m probably “skankier” than her because I’m also a stripper (and I LOVE it. No, no drug or alcohol consumption is required, either). Now that THAT is out of the way, let’s do some yapping:

I actually agree with Enciwhateverhisnameis, because we definitely don’t want to train our youth to think alike. That would be uh….kind of the opposite to our beliefs, to say the least! Doesn’t take a dumb liberal to figure that one out, does it?!

She isn’t evil; in fact, she is Catholic and respects the religion. Don’t believe me? Do the research.

And lastly, I must say, yet again, that people who have it out for her (especially as extreme as most of the replies here indicate) may have their own self confidence issues.

If you really hate the music, then cool. If you never really listened to it, but still decide to hate the person behind it, then I feel sorry for you.

Are you for real? Is that the key word for you leftist drones? Hate? How is protesting a Lady Gaga concert hateful? Or is it ONLY Christian protests that are hateful? Radical leftist protests like Occupy are just fine and dandy. Peace and love…. Maybe you liberals should at least attempt to think for yourselves for once instead of buying into all the BS talking points.

There is a difference between protesting and saying, “Lady Gaga‘s performance don’t stand up to my moral compass, therefore I will not be attending her concert“ and ”Lady Gaga‘s performances don’t stand up to my moral compass, therefore I will try to keep her from performing here.”

Religions have always cared more about other people’s morality then they do their own.

There is a difference between protesting and saying, “SLAVERY doesn’t stand up to my moral compass, therefore I will not OWN SLAVES“ and ”SLAVERY doesn’t stand up to my moral compass, therefore I will try to keep OTHERS FROM OWNING SLAVES.”

Wait, I may be confused here.

Did you just really equate slavery to a Lady Gaga concert?

Please tell me that’s not what you were implying.

Were you really saying that trying to STOP slavery and trying to STOP Lady Gaga performing are equal on a morality scale? I really hope I am wrong in my assessment of your claim because I don’t want to think that there is anybody that stupid and morally inadequate in this world.

If this is your claim, I am going to claim that you are morally BANKRUPT and so brain washed that you can’t think on a rational scale.

Yes ENCINOM..People have been evil since Eve ate the apple in the garden a long time ago. People did aweful things because thats when sin came into the world. Cain slew his brother Abel….not too long after that, sin was running so rampant that God destroyed the world with a flood (it broke His heart)..because nothing but evil was on their minds continually (alot like people now)…but He saved Noah and his family. The bible “says just as it was in the days of Noah, will the coming of the son of man be”…people were eating and drinking and marrying and they didn’t have any idea they were getting ready to die by drowning…It will be the same this time only Jesus will come back at a time we don’t expect…..so be ready. Yes…you are right about that…there has been slavery and alot worse since sin came into the world…all done by rebellous sinners….not God. God is a just judge.
Abortion is pretty evil too….the smoke of dead babies goes up to God day in and day out-just like the ole creamatoriums in Germany only it’s ALL innocent babies ripped out of their mothers wombs…all sacrificed to the god of convienence and a “womans rights”….
