Store Clerk Gets in Shootout With Robbers

Everything’s bigger in Texas. Everyone’s apparently bolder, too.

A store clerk at a Waco, TX smoke shop was startled when two robbers interrupted his evening shift with guns and demands for money. The clerk gave them the cash, but then gave them something else: a face full of lead. The clerk took out his own gun, a revolver, and began firing at the robbers from just feet away:

Look, y’all, de broda ben kep‘ down by whitey for fo’ hunned years, dey’s gots de rite to stick it to de man….I carry a hi-cap 9mm with the evil black talon +P+ 127 gr on my hip and a 38 with 135 gr. Gold dots as back up. I was instrumental in getting the +P+ rounds issued to the department I retired from, and they have had an excellent track record. Every @$$hole shot with them was stopped or killed. I also take my 870 loaded with buckshot when I work nights on our range, which stays open after the main shop closes. As soon as I can get nite sights on my XDM 9mm, I’ll put it on as it has a 19 round mag capacity. I also shoot 50-300 rounds a week when business is slow. Submitting to the thugs will most likely get you killed, but if I fight, I figure I stand a chance, especially when the ghetto/hood shooting technique displayed in this video and so many others is used. Remember, 90+% of shooting victims survive if gotten to medical care in time….

Revolver is much better then a semi-automatic in this situation as it is more reliable. I would definitely recommend a bigger caliber, and some target practice. If all Americans were required to carry guns, the crime rate would be much lower.

I‘m sorry I couldn’t help my brother in arms in FL, as I was on-duty 1600 miles away in MN. Ask a SWAT operator how many rounds they carry, and they will tell you as many as possible. Off-duty, I carry the aforementioned Kahr PM9 7+1. Trained, capable, and competent citizens are the first line of defense.

No need for an extended magazine (not clip, magazine), a standard 7 or 8 shot magazine works fine for that scenario. Engagements at that range, < 15 feet, rarely see more than 3 shots fired, if that many.

I'm all for large capacity magazines, btw, I just like to tailor my tools to their specific tasks. I'll take the large capacity magazines for more…spray an pray…types of weapons.

There we go, a much better take on gun rights than even most pro-gun people have, salute sir.

I take it one step further. The Constitution doesn’t “grant” me a single right, I own those rights naturally as an individual, and they cannot be taken away, at all. The Constitution simply recognizes this reality and was created to help me protect my rights from those who wished to take them away.

      @Non-sequitur

Doubtful. History shows that when everybody (or most everybody) is armed and not afraid to use those arms, society becomes amazingly polite and docile.

Think about it. Criminals don’t like risk. That‘s why they’re criminals in the first place, they don’t want a life filled with danger and hard work, they want the easy way out, hence why they steal instead of work for their own bread. If they worked under the certain knowledge that robbers always met with the end of a gun barrel, they’d be much less inclined to engage in robbery.

Don’t believe me? Look at how pirates operated, who were robbers writ large. They steadfastly refused to attack naval vessels if they could avoid it, and preyed almost exclusively on lightly armed merchant ships. At first sight of professional naval ships (aka heavily armed) they fled in their much smaller, faster and nimbler ships away from danger. The only engagements they made with professional forces (aka heavily armed) were engagements where they were forced to through ambush.

In short, criminals are base cowards. That‘s why they’re criminals. No, they wouldn’t walk in and start shooting immediately. They don’t have the stones, and never have historically. It is rare, and we know all of their names, to find actual criminals who don’t fear danger. It is rarer still to find one that lived any length of time with such an attitude.

Ghost of jefferson; you are basically correct, however pirates would run because the naval ships were far more heavily armed, and there was no profit in the fight. The downside for them was very large, just ask Blackbeards crew, they were hung in Williamsburg, VA.
The downside of everybodies being armed, especially with the special gun crime laws, is that the creeps would be more prone to shoot. The upside is that far fewer of these loser’s would be willing to risk getting capped to rob someone. If everyone is armed, the other guy in a convienence store could end their career quickly.

“however pirates would run because the naval ships were far more heavily armed, and there was no profit in the fight. ”

That was kind of my point I guess, though I see the distinction that you’re making. They were so far ahead in arms superiority that to not run would be silly even for an armed man. Ok, fair enough.

There are always psychotics in a society so yes, there would still be criminals. But it would be more like the Old West, which was FAR more peaceful than Hollywood tried to tell us. So peaceful in fact that we pretty much know all the criminals by name even today. In a society of millions of armed people, and one can only dig up < 50 (?) mad dogs over the span of almost a century, well that says something right there. And they all were either shot or hung by the neck until dead, myths to the contrary about Jesse James notwithstanding.

Me, I'd much rather "take my chances" with everybody walking around packing heat than be "safe" in a society that had disarmed its citizenry. Odds of personal safety are so far superior when we're armed that it's not even debatable in my estimation.

Robbers enter a store and try to steal a few dollars from a local business, they get shot at, chased by police and possibly arrested and thrown in jail or prison. Their actions are wrong and should be punished without a doubt but white collar robbers in suits and ties inside banks and the government collude to steal millions, billions, and trillions from the whole taxpaying nation and nothing happens. If Obama and congress suddenly say “Let’s start a Global friends fund to pay Iran, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela each 1 trillion dollars so we can have peace.” What could the taxpayers do about it? They can reach right into your pocket by raising taxes, borrowing from foreign nations, or printing money at the federal reserve decreasing the value of your savings, unlimited robbing of the taxpayers without a gun. Here in Indiana my carry license allows me to carry openly (not concealed) but I have been loathe to do that. I didn’t want the strange looks or prying questions, but I‘m getting to where I just don’t give a damn anymore. JIMMYTHEBULLET, you are correct with your choice of the Taurus Judge. The Judge is chambered to hold both 45 colt center fired bullets and 410 shotgun shells. This is an excellent choice for most home defense. I recommend not using the 45 round because it can travel more than a mile. The better choice for close quarters defense is the 410 shot gun shell, it will drop off quickly after discharge. Should you ever need to shot in your defense the discharged 410 shot gun round will not kill the kids in the next room or the house next door. Anyone considering a gun for home defense please check out the Judge.

As someone who sells firearms for a living, I have a unique perspective on what people choose to carry or use for self-defense. In my store, we have a poor to middle class clientle, and they buy guns that they can afford. Yes, the Taurus Judge is a viable option for defense but if you do purchase one take it to a local gunsmith IMMEDIATELY for an action tune and reliability check. They are great guns for close range defense—if they work. I have had to do action jobs on many of these guns because of poor quality control at the factory. They seem to have a problem with that in their Brazilian manufacturing facility. Also, the .410ga. shotshell is a good load in them for CLOSE range (within 5-7 feet). After that the pattern spreads too widely due to the rifled bore.

The Judge is nothing but a gimmick a the .410 out of a handgun is not effective and becomes wildly innacurate after 5-10 yards which may cause stray rounds to hit bystanders.

The best gun is a gun 9mm/.38sp. and up, loaded with heavy, modern jacketed hollow point ammunition, that you know how to operate under stress.

I hope anyone who reads this will seriously give thought about getting training from a reputable and qualified trainer.

      KICKILLEGALSOUT,

The most powerful weapon we have is our wallets. If people stopped paying taxes, the government would have to come up with a new game-plan.

Kudos to this store clerk. I do recommend remedial training at the range however…try to simulate firing under stress –quick and accurate fire will save your live..spray and pray may not.

On weapon choice…Everyone seems to think that a shotgun is going to throw some huge pattern when used for self defense but this is not the case. It WILL drop what or who you hit but at close range the pattern is small. Test this for yourself. Shoot at a target ten feet away and you will notice the tight shot pattern…a few inches at best even with a wide open choke.

All that aside, it will have a devastating effect on your target even with birdshot. Hit them in the chest and it will be like hitting them with a grenade. There’s no putting them back together again after a shot like that so be sure you want them dead (in this case and any other similar situation that I can think of that would be the desired outcome).

And that Judge 45 colt round will not carry a mile out of that gun as stated by one poster..the barrel is way too short to allow complete combustion of the power load. It would however make mince meat out of any target victim unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end. 45 cal entry wound… large jagged exit wound and jellied internal organs.

NEW JERSEY DEMANDS STORE CLERKS SURRENDER TO BLACK ROBBERS.

In New Jersey that store clerk would be behind bars right now for protecting his life and property. Texas should break away from the US and remove its Star from the US Flag.

I LIKE THAT GUY, HE CAN WORK WE ME ANY TIME.

That gun looks like a 45 caliber so it must have made some nasty holes in that robber who is now in tha hospital receiving the best of care at taxpayer expense. HIPA law will prevent the hospital from reporting the robber’s holes to the police.

YEA, doing this is going to get him killed, I dont think he shot anyone, and if he did, the other guy who did not get shot is simply going to kill him next time; there is no substitute for suprise and the aggressor always has the advantage of suprise and almost always wins a fight of any kind.

These stores located in bad areas need to invest in a bulletproof barrier like plexiglass just like at the check cashing places. . . you dont ever hear of those places getting robbed.

Im not sure if the general public can get them and i dont know why they wouldnt be able to but police rounds for the 9mm fragment upon hitting something like a wall making it less likely that it will go through and kill an innocent bystander. . .people should consider those rounds although i forgot what they are called. . .

Unfortuantely the prisons and jails have so many manditory sentences for dumb crap like trying to regulate what adults can put into their bodies like marijuana that there is no room for real criminals that do crap like this. . . you ******** need to get on the bandwagon to decriminalize drugs and quit sending the kids to the criminal college (lock up).

Combine what that manditory sentences for real crimes like armed robbery. . . Life in Prison. No Parole. And dont let them just sit around in prison make them work for their daily bread. . . ie: farming and manufacturing. . .That would solve most of the crime issues in America today.

Trade your six shooter in on a Clock, get a concealed gun permit, so you’ll have it more accessible for quick action. Keep an eye open and stay ready for any return engagement . You might even find it helpful to get some close combat and firearm self protection training. All in all, you did great. You make a retired combat Marine and fellow Texan proud.
