Stossel Plays Spoof of Puff Daddy‘s ’Missing You’ in Memory of Incandescent Light Bulb

Remy Incandescent Light Bulb Song

Come January 2012, some may start missing the 100-watt incandescent light bulb. John Stossel on his segment for Fox Business last night had Reason’s Nick Gillespie as a guest and bemoaned the “unintended consequences” that will come with the Energy Independence and Security Act’s phasing out of incandescent bulbs.

Gillespie says that if the replacements for the conventional light bulb are so good, then why aren’t people buying them. And Stossel, playing devil’s advocate, said that of all government bans this one seems more reasonable, especially since only the 100-watt version is banned at the start of the year. Gillespie points out though that by 2014 all versions of the bulb Thomas Edison invented will be out ousted, with some exceptions.

Remy Incandescent Light Bulb Song

Watch Stossel‘s and Gillespie’s full discussion:

“Missing You: The Incandescent Light Bulb Song” is set to Puff Daddy, Faith Evens and 112′s “I’ll be Missing You”, which they wrote in memorial of Notorious B.I.G. who was murdered in 1997. “I’ll be Missing You“ was based on ”Every Breath You Take” by The Police.

Here’s the full rap by Remy, who is also known for spoofs and parodies such as “Remy’s Protest Song“ and ”Raise the Debt Ceiling”:

You may have caught song pointing out that the light bulb ban required an Easy Bake oven redesign. Check out that Blaze story here.

Saw a story a while back where German Scientists found that these bulbs should not be used for reading or other applications where you are within 3 feet for prolonged periods of time. Apparently they emit some kind of gas that in low doses is not harmful but in close proximity, cause headaches.

In 10 years they’ll be telling us they are causing cancerous brain tumors.

I‘ve been using the compact flourescents since the mid 90’s – I don’t do it to be green, unless the green is in my wallet…

Now costs have come down a bit, my whole house is now are all compact bulbs, one of the big irks I have, these bulbs all claim around 7 years lifespan… BULL CRAP !!! I usually see about 2 years out of these bulbs, some have lasted around 5 years, like my outside ones…. but many just burn out fast, I see the bases cracked and browned on them sometimes.

They do make an annoying ringing/buzz which I sometimes notice and it is annoying from time to time. Overall, they are okay bulbs, not as good as what I like call “Classic Edison’s” but they do okay, but they certainly don’t live up to their claims, nor do they seem to be saving quite as much money as I had hoped.

I’d love to go to LED bulbs, but I am NOT paying $30 for 1 friggin bulb, that is ridiculous beyond belief – when they come down to like $5 or so, I’ll consider it then, but this price gouging on these things is stupidity !!!!!

You’re funny! Got the “free” bulbs left outside my door…I have put TWO in my outside light in the past 6mos. My elderly Mom called me in the Summer-her outside light was out- NO!!! Mom, wait! I’ll get a bulb for you. Y’all can take your Mercury Laden little spiral “PC” bulbs and put them where the Military apparently allows these days…baa baa

What hasn’t occurred, yet, is the government enforcing the proper disposal of fluorescent bulbs and/or the proper clean up of damaged bulbs, because of the mercury in them.
Led bulbs are finally breaking into the free market which are the BEST option to the incandescent bulb, and that will be very welcomed because it is Obama’s friend CEO of GE that got the the law passed to replace the incandescent bulb with the very profitable curly-Q fluorescent. You all have some time to stock up on the incandescent so get on it when the sales start.

The reason you’re see dramatic decrease in longevity compared to claims is the testing is done with the bulb positions in ideal configurations. In real-world locations and positions the bulbs heat up shortening the life of the boards. Can’t imagine given the mercury content why anyone would voluntarily move to these. If you’re looking for an alternative to incandescents …… go with LEDs. More options now.

I use these crap bulbs in my tiny office due to the heat from incandescent bulbs, but it takes two or three minutes for them to be bright enough to see. This whole concept sucks just like everything else the government touches.

I replaced about half of the bulbs in my house with CFL bulbs several years ago. I didn’t see any reduction in the cost from when I only had incandescent bulbs. I’ve found out since then that the energy savings only comes from bulbs that are left on for long periods. If you turn out lights frequently (as I’ve done for 40 years when I leave a room), there is little to no savings. And as was previously mentioned, the bulbs don’t last near as long as advertised. I’m going back to incandescent bulbs – I’ve been stockpiling them.

I tried these CFLs in part of my house as an experiment. Not only were they totally unable to create light that you could read by, but they did not last any longer than normal incandescent light bulbs. Instead of just going out, they start to flicker, or they won’t start until the switch is on for a few minutes. Like everyone else, i just throw them in the garbage after they crap out. Hope I am not killing future generations by this.

I KNOW!!! Plus when he went to Egypt he was shown a hieroglyphic that looks like him, ears and all..Reports say he stayed by it for an exceptional amount of time..by the way, there is a theory that the Egyptians had incandescent bulbs! The reasoning is some hieroglyphics in the shape of globes, carried aloft.- and that there is no smoke residue inside those very dark corridors…go figure. And so it goes like Tesla’s invention, it was free energy using the interior corridors of the pyramids at Giza. The substrate sits on an aquifer. Which creates electrolysis. Deep inside the ark of the covenant gold encased box was used for the conduction. The the Israelis left, taking the ark with them Egypt was plunged into darkness causing Pharaoh to go after them. Just passing this along.

Oh and I have a question. There is mercury in those bulbs. Surely the green people know that. I would like to know if the green people think that the rest of us are going to properly dispose of the new bulbs with the mercury in them. Nope, most people will throw them straight in the trash just like they did the old incandesent bulbs, some won‘t know some won’t care how they are supposed to be disposed of. Of course this will release mercury into the atmosphere or into your home should one break. FYI mercury is very bad for humans. FYI just read the package the new light bulbs on what to do if one breaks and how to dispose of the burned out ones.

      Shhhhhh……….. don’t talk bad about GREEN TECHNOLOGY !!! — that’s a no-no….

Like solar panel manufacturing…. you hear the greeny-weenies whine about pollutants, fraking and water contamination…. go do some research of the toxic residual soup that is left over when making solar panels, you’d rather have a nice cozy nuclear power plant next door then a solar panel factory near you… the panel making is highly toxic – but you never ever hear about that from the greeny-weenies…..

I laugh at people who put CFL’s in motion-sensor outdoor fixtures! What a joke! Talk about misinformed! They cost MUCH MORE, use more electricity, don’t come on instantly-which is needed in a security light, are MORE likely to be broken-causing HAZMAT conditions, and fail faster than the good-old Edison bulb! Whoever sold these ‘greenies’ on CFL’s in THAT application, sold them a bill of goods! I see it all the time–the wrong bulb in the wrong fixture! S-T-U-P-I-D, but it FEELS GOOD!
