CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Holiday decorations hanging high from above are supposed to make people feel jolly, but it certainly didn’t in this case.
A giant candy cane fell from a light pole and crashed down onto Phil and Jessica Goodrich’s car.
The accident happened earlier this month in a strip mall parking lot at University and Arapahoe in Centennial.
The four foot candy caused significant damage. It seriously dented the roof and hood, and broke the windshield — enough to total the 1991 Toyota Corolla and throw a wrench into the family’s holiday plans.

Report Post »US to make ‘wild’ public land eligible for protection
(actually Obama take over)
Ghandi was a Republican
Posted on December 26, 2010 at 12:44pmSadly the only true protector of Wild land are the environmentalists and so called exploiters who hunt and glean it’s abundant resources. It is these who live off the land and appreciate it for what it is.
Never seen a so called ‘environmentalist who actually knows of land and resource management such as thinning the herds from starvation, controlled burn to prevent massive fire deforestation. Best of all it is these ‘exploiters’ who monitor conditions for free. The left wants to claim greed in everything. To them self-preservation is greed. In their fantasy land, oil and petro products never replaced the whales and the forests (due to plastics) as an alternative resource.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 1:22pmI don‘t think 1 percent of these environmentalist’s have ever been on any of this kind of land to know. They are just being used to protest for those who want the rest of us to stay where they can control us. I agree with the statement.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 11:49amWow, he says he is loosing $150-200 a day in business and it means they can’t give their kids a Santa Christmas after this? Obviously the money he says he makes; isn’t going toward the family transportation. Yuck, another blood sucker.

Report Post »They are waiting for someone else to take them by the hand and tell them it will be all right your uncle O is her to save you….hows that hope and change thing going for ya so far…..that guy needs to man up…

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 10:37amThis story makes no sense at all, the guy claims he is losing $150-$200 per day, can‘t get to appointments because of the lack of car and on top of it all he can’t afford to rent a car. Well you can rent a car for what $20-$30 per day? Wouldn’t it make more sense to rent a car and continue to make $120/$130 – $170/$180 per day instead of making $0 and crying to reporters about how bad Christmas is? It sounds to me like the guy is making excuses and doesn’t really want to work but sure as hell wants the check from the company. I am calling BS on this guy, if he were a man he would get his butt out there and work to make sure his family has a good Christmas.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 9:16amhas anyone else done the math? $150 to $200 a day and he drove a 91′ Toyota POS and hasnt the savings to replace a $500 car. I worked at McDonalds at 16 and did Back road Durbies on pay day… Go buy another POS for a couple hundred… apparently you’d only have to work late two days in a row to pay for it. I guess paying rent isnt that important when a lawyer says he’ll Make Them Pay. Personal Trainers are prospected on their reputations and apperances… I wouldnt pay him or his wife to train me at a fry eating contest much less Physical fitness.
My second point… MEDIA are you freaking dain bramaged?? There was a Plane Crash in the News Pile and you felt this story took Precedence?? I guess we know where your priorities lie… with Money grubbers looking for a free ride and Piming their unwashed scabby kids for sympathy.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 8:15amI don’t see what the big deal is…..I have driven cars that if they had two flat tires at once, the car would be considered ‘totaled’. They are just trying for the money grab. Sometimes stuff happens. Move on….

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 7:54amJust kick the windshield out and go on! Us rednecks do it all the time. Get some safety glasses at the Walmart and keep your mouth closed while driving. The dents give the car character.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 3:02amIt’s just another good reason to stay away from strip malls this time of year! That and the terrorist bomb threats, which seem to be saying they are going to hit on New Years day, are all the reason that I need to stay away. I am going to be at home, or at church/fellowship, for the rest of this year! Amen.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 2:22amWhat do they mean they don’t have a car to drive. Did the insurance company steal it? There’s nothing wrong with the car that makes it unsafe. I can’t stand stupid people looking for their 15 minutes of fame, even if it shows how stupid they are.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 12:16amHere’s something I found on the power grab made by Dept of Interior:
Ranchers, oil men and others have been suspicious of federal plans to lock up land in the West, worrying that taking the BLM land out of production would kill rural economies that rely on ranchers and the oil and gas business.
Their suspicions have been heightened since memos leaked in February revealed the Obama administration was considering 14 sites in nine states for possible presidential monument declarations.
That included 2.5 million acres of northeastern Montana prairie land proposed as a possible bison range, along with sites in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and Washington.

Posted on December 25, 2010 at 10:44pmNot to be cruel, but a 91 Corolla has no value anyway, so whatever damage would be done to it, it could be classified as “totaled. As far as the owner saying he is losing $150-200 a day in lost wages, because of it. I don’t think so.
Report Post »WISEPENNY
Posted on December 25, 2010 at 11:34pmWould you see it differently if it were your car and your lost time and inability to get to work economically? The guy is entitled to way more than the price of his car. That mall owner wouldn’t spare the horses if the couples car damaged his structure.

Posted on December 25, 2010 at 11:34pmAfter watching the video again I think that candy cane dent added value to that POS.
The guy is claiming $150 a day for a couple of weeks. He has lost $1500 lets feel sorry for him. Dude throw a $200 windshield in the car or slap some packing tape on the crack and DRIVE IT!!!
Or take a cab or pay a someond $30-$40 your still netting over a $100 a day.

Posted on December 25, 2010 at 10:00pmAbove all this should not have spoiled Christmas for the family, but is an opportunity for them to explore the true meaning of Christmas. Yes it is a bummer and has made life difficult but that should never be the reason not to celebrate the birth of Christ. It might ruin the santa thing we have going on and the other traditions that we employ over Christmas, but they are just secondary to the birth of Christ the reason for the season.

If I was a rental car company or even in car sales, I’d work something out for them. Problem is, it doesn’t take much dollar value to total a 1991 Toyota.

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 9:53amMy recommendations after looking at the car: Get your settlement from the mall’s insurance company. Buy your car back, possibly for a couple hundred or less; buy a hood from a junk yard and install it [usually 2 to 4 bolts per hinge], a good automotive glass shop should be able to jack the top of the car up enough [If you don’t know how or don’t have the tools] and install a new windshield, buy a can of high gloss black spray paint from your neighborhood hardware store, apply paint to hood and top of car. Not a big deal. I’ve fixed worse car accidents in my driveway.
