Strong Auto Sales Reported in June: Here Are the 10 Cars That Sold the Most

Following June’s impressive boost in auto sales, we thought it timely and appropriate to bring you a “top whatever” list ranking last month’s bestselling cars.

“Sales for major automakers improved more than 20 percent,” according to Cars.com, “Toyota gained 60.3%; Honda picked up 48.8%, and Nissan added 28.2% … Ford sales improved 7.0% last month, while GM and Chrysler both piled on double-digit gains of 15.5% and 20.3%, respectively.”

June’s big winners include Chrysler, which reported its best June since before the recession (2007), family cars, and luxury vehicles. In fact, luxury vehicles have been doing so well that they might actually be “pulling the tide of overall car prices higher.”

“A number of premium brands gained steam: Cadillac gained 11.6%, Buick and Audi rose more than 25%, Infiniti soared 66.2% and Acura jumped 76.5%. Lexus sales doubled,” the report adds.

Well, that seems a little odd. Keep in mind June’s increases are only improvements when compared to 2011’s sales. What makes June 2012 so much different from June 2011 that people are willing to spend more on cars?

“[D]espite four consecutive months of falling consumer confidence amid renewed fears of economic headwinds,” the report adds, “Shoppers are spending more.”

This could mean one of two things: a) consumer confidence is slowly but surely creeping back or b) people have finally lost it and they‘re spending their life savings on luxury vehicles they’ve always wanted.

Here are June’s top 10 best-selling cars [via Cars.com]:

I still would like to have again a 1966 Pontiac Tempest 2 door hardtop or a 1950 Ford with a Flathead-6. I had them both and they were great cars. Lots of fond memories.

Also my Dad’s 1955 Nash Statesman with the fold down seats(if you get my drift).

And most of the suckers that bought, didn’t “buy” they were shackled to a lender like the slave to a slave owner…Good job guys! People wonder why we‘re in the situation we’re in, buying things we can’t afford, then over extending our credit…gee somehow this sounds real familiar!

Exactly. All this “end the fed” garbage would solve itself if we only paid for things we could afford instead of putting everything on credit.

Honda’s and Infinities have had big promotional offers. Perhaps that’s why unit sales are up. Are they measuring “sales” in auto unit’s sold or in dollar sales?

We just bought a previously owned 2007 Honda Ridgeline and love it. It’s a truck, but has a tailgate that swings out or drops down. If you swing it out, there‘s a trunk to store stuff when you don’t want to just leave it lying in the bed of the truck. It’s also 4 door, seating 5 comfortably. I have a 22 year old and a 13 year old that’s almost as big as me. It also has 3 charging ports. Can’t wait to go on vacation and try it out….

“Previously owned”? You mean “used”. There is nothing wrong with “used”. They call it “previously owned” so they can justify adding 10% to the price.

I bought a 2007 Accord last September and just bought a 2003 Accura MDX. I will never ever buy “American” again, with the possible exception of Ford. I have owned Mazdas, Toyotas, a Mitsubishi, Datsuns and now Hondas. I can sleep at night knowing these companies weren’t “bailed out” in a corrupt scheme to get campaign money from the unions in support of a socialist dictator. Face it, if you buy a Chrysler or GM product you are not only buying expensive crap, you are supporting corruption. Sooner or later, you have to take a stand.

Bought my last GM car in 1997 buying a POS Malibu. Shortly after purchase it developed ignition system problems. After several attempts by “Mr Goodwrench” at changing parts with no correction, we took the car to a local garage where they diagnosed the problem and replaced the ignition module. No more ignition problems. It was the last GM car I will ever own now that GM is lock, stock and barrell in China’s back pocket. We replaced the POS with a Honda Accord and have had Accords ever since.

2 cars in 22 years… both purchased new.
1990 – Honda Accord – drove for 10 years, 150,000+ miles, no major repair issues – none.
2000 – Honda Civic – still driving, 130,000+ miles, no major repair issues – none.

Just go watch the videos of those Chrysler workers drinking beer and smoking pot on their lunch breaks. Now, tell me, why would anyone buy a Chrysler product?

Well I bought a 2009 GMC Sierra (same as silverado) it is a piece of crap, wholly and completely I ca, GMC Garbabage Motors Crapola, hard down shift into ifrst (yes it s automatic) drive link klunk thump, slop in driveline, seats well they feel like worn out recycle diarhea, seriously now, at 1,000 miles the frim comfortable seats start to trun soft, and now my butt sinks in it.

dealers reply we can fis by selling you a new one, or the seats are better than were 2 years ago, heck the 1989 had great firm seats in th whwole life then the embysols changed to soft in 1990 and keep going round and round trying to fix the problem instead of going back to 1989 foam compound and and improving on it, quit insisting on using soft crap, driveline problems the slop and hard down shift GM technical service bulleting (which takes thousand and thousand of complaints to look into and write) says it is normal oh yeah since when, stop thump had it in 5 times everytime theys ay it ready never say it is fixed I pick it up same crap.

Everyone I know will tell that GM, FORD and CHRYSLER are crap, if these embysols are ignorant enough to by one more power to their ignorance keeps my resale and trade in value up, keep doing it dummies until I can get rid of mine.

Now I call them everytime I buy a car and let them know it wasn’t a GM. Who says boycotts don’t work. They would have been out of business if it weren’t for the Socialist.

Yea, I think the issue isn’t that American want to spend money, it is they have realized socking it away is costing them about 15% of the value of a dollar every year and so if they don’t dump the money now it will be worth much less next year. Heck, if you are borrowing money from someone and the amount you are paying effectively reduces each year then why not do it. I’m waiting for the inflation to really kick off (and hopefully the pay increase happens as well) and then we can all pay our houses off with a single days wages…won’t those government backed banks love that. Then again, it is the master government bank that is causing it.

I just bought a new Dodge RAM 1500 ,my last one was extrememly reliable 160,000 trouble free miles, tires, washes, waxes, oil changes and nothing else !!! My brother just purchased a new 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T very nice car !! Chrysler is on a roll….By the way the Ford F-150 was always the best selling price as it is the lowest price full size on the market !! Ford Fusion always sold well.Chrysler overall picked up the most in car sales, sales constantely up month to month..Awesome…My niece is getting a new Chrysler 200 in a few weeks for her Graduation gift, allowing her to drive reliably to University in the fall..Had to wait 3 weeks to get the color of her choice as it is a hot seller as well .Sales are so good at Chrysler ,they cant build enough cars fast enough as they have less plants than GM/FORD and TOYOTA…if Chrysler had more plants, more sales would follow ! The article is a bit misleading. It reports the % increase in sales from a prior time. If I was strong in the past, a good increase now might only reflect a single digit increase. Still, it is good to see the increase in sales in a sector that was hit hard. A special note: Ford garnered 3 of the top 10 spots and the #1 spot in this report. Of course, Ford never took bailout money and really benefited from their decision.
