Studio Will Pull Ad Campaign for 9/11 Movie From Ground Zero Site

Warner Bros. will pull an ad campaign for its new Sept. 11 movie from Ground Zero after complaints from local residents and construction workers that images of the burning Twin Towers are insensitive.

The advertisements for “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” feature video promotions that show a plane slamming into the World Trade Center and the Twin Towers on fire. They’re running near the subway stop across from the Ground Zero site, according to the New York Post.

“It’s ridiculous,” construction worker Pete Weber told the newspaper. “People lost their loved ones right here. It shouldn’t be shown ever, especially here.”

The movie stars Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock and is based on a fictional bestseller about an 11-year-old boy’s search for answers after his father is killed in the World Trade Center.

Bill Doyle, whose son was killed in the attacks, told the newspaper “everybody’s trying to make money off 9/11″ and criticized the decision to run the ads for the movie so close to the site.

“A lot of families got upset. Why couldn’t they warn us about this? I don’t think people really realized that these people are really still stressed,” he said.

Warner Bros. told the Post it would take the ads down.

“It was never our intention to cause any distress,” spokesman Paul McGuire said. “As a result, we will make best efforts to pull the material from pertinent locations.”

A spokesman for New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which leases advertising space, told the Post ads for the movie have been running on 40 digital panels throughout the city, 500 posters on subways and buses and on 40 billboards.

The MTA campaign will end Sunday.

There are many movies about history, 9/11 is also a part of that history. If this is a case of sensitivity, then we should ban ALL movies about war, about Pearl Harbor, and on and on. Where does the banning of things end? This is America, we still have CHOICE (for the time being at least)…

Ground Zero is where George Washington dedicated this country to God! Did you know that? I did not until I watched Rabbi Jonathan Cahn who revealed the warnings (Harbingers) the Almighty has been sending for the last 10+ years that line up precisely with the same He sent to ancient Israel and they ignored. Judgement comes to the place of dedication. We have turned our back on The Almighty and He has sent harbingers of warning that as a just and HOLY God He is removing His hand of protection from us for our highmindedness, pride, arrogance, godlessness, acceptance of depravity, etc – for lack of repentence and godly sorrow at sin; there is a connection between Washington’s dedication of the country to the stone church at ground zero that stood untouched and ancient Israel’s Temple Mount, Federal Hall in NYC,war in Iraq, stock market crashes of 2001, 2008 and much more! As preposterous as this might sound to unbelievers, suspend judgment till you view,

Let those that have eyes to see see and ears to hear hear. . It is all in the record, all events happened, no conspiracy here, just the unfolding of a very frightening prophesy if America does not heed the warnings, turn from its wicked ways and seek HIS face.
the same pattern of judgment on ancient Israel is being played out in USA here is proof:

Hollywood is run by a certain ethnic group which had a heavy hand in motivating war on their behalf. It is critical they continue to pound the LIE as truth or be found out for why they have such a negative reputation.

@tzion Yes, I studied Mechanical eng, Industrial eng, and Manufacturing eng. (plenty of metallurgy in there to go around)
Yes, I passed both sections of advanced university level physics. (said to be the hardest pre requisite class in my state)
“Planes travel incredibly fast and are incredibly heavy.”
The heavier they are the slower they travel due to drag in creating lift(trained as a pilot as well), turboPROPS are used to travel under 22K feet due to the thick air.
“If it hit the building, the building would have to stop the movement of the plane which in turn means an equal force would be acting on the building.”
Absolutely, this is the principal of Newton’s third LAW, and means the weaker metal will fail first. A prime example would be the B-25 that struck the Empire state building, which fell to the street unassisted after hitting the exterior wall (the engines did go through, and are designed to break away on a 7×7series of Boeing)
      Any more questions?

There’s still a problem. Even if the plane crumpled on impact (which it did) the building would STILL have to decelerate the entire mass of the plane. Do the math. Take the plane‘s velocity and it’s mass and calculate how much force would be needed to bring it to a dead stop BEFORE it has passed through the building. The bomber was slowing down in order to land, while the 747s were traveling at full speed. Also, remember that the WTC was built with support columns on the outer perimeter and in the center, if the plane got through the outer columns there would be only flimsy walls and minor struts to stop it before it got any further. Oh and the second plane didn’t directly impact the central columns.

“The bomber was slowing down in order to land, while the 747s were traveling at full speed.”
Incorrect, it was looking for the airfield. The gov claims 767-200s hit the towers(goes to show how much u know, which is NOT MUCH), and to NOT have a wing extend beyond a corner would be the equivalent to landing on an aircraft carrier BY AN AMATEUR! (u really are a gullible STD). The physics behind impact will not change until several mach is reached, NOT POSSIBLE. I believed commercial aircraft were involved for 9 yrs, then I looked at the facts w/o the MSM blinders.
No black boxes were found, b/c there were none to begin w/.
@badger Of 19 Hjs, NOT A SINGLE ONE MADE A “SUICIDE BOMBER” VIDEO?? Claims were made duplicating the same evidence several times. ppl like u are the reason the real purps are allowed to walk, typical state employee incompetence.

The movie is very good. The characters are played well and the boy is exceptional. It really shows how families deal with grief from death. The 9/11 angle is ancillary to the plot, but of course 9/11 is still there on the screen and opens those emotions up which we all still have about 9/11.

I think that we should see the footage of the Trade Towers every day.

We were attacked. Yet Bush chose not to consider it another Pearl Harbor. He did not seek a declaration of war against Al-Qaida and any nation harboring Al-Qaida. He chose not to have War Bond drives which would bring each of us into the war in our own way. He chose to not put us on a war footing. He told us to shop. I remain livid to this day. America should have righteous anger rather than the stunning indifference of most citizens. My oldest son is making the US Army a career. He has been on 3 deployments. I always felt that I could handle these deployments better if there was a declared act of war rather than what we have. I remember what it was like to be a soldier in an undeclared war.

    Sorry for the rant.

This is due to people having Tivo and can view the images frame by frame, they will see the CGI and realize it was a HOAX. 4mm of sheet aluminum can not shear 20mm of structural steel. I don‘t know why he didn’t fly the planes himself. he did i believe fight against the soviets when they were in afghanistan and he did i believe propose to launch an effort to topple saddam husein. he did support the arab spring uprisings against western backed dictators. like the americans say when they kill in war-he said he did not like killing civilians. he said had they had sophisticated weapons like americans have -they could better target only military targets. But alqada was a ground up movement antithetical to the interests of the western backed dictators which hurt the people but helped western interests. Our policy of vetoing with a simple stroke of a pen every un resolution which would help the palestinians led to his going after america. As did our horrible sanctions on iraq. And our having military bases which violated the peoples sensibilities both religiously and politically. He died believing in his heart of hearts that he did not start this war. we did with our unjust policies. Our narrativ that they atacked us because we’re not muslim is a false narrative to rationalize genocide against arab/muslims andblind support of israeli unjust racist policies.[by depicting them as a-historical and irrational]

Yes..it was a very awful and tragic tragedy…but, we are Americans…we are strong… we are not pansies ..we get up ,dust ourselves off and keep on going forward…this is the greatest nation ever created by man (inspired by God)…and we must not forget that …this is One Nation Under God… and we must never forget that… !!!! Besides…someone very close to my family died on 9/11– and we never forget..for it is a reminder that we must be vigilant always… our enemies..(foreign and domestic) will not rest until they destroy the USA and our Constitution !!! If this is the case, then perhaps you need to seek professional help because you can’t keep these feelings silent.

9/11 occurred at Ground Zero, it did not occur anywhere else (PA excluded); I do not think this was insensitive and people need to see the images. We must never forget, no matter how painful. I won‘t be seeing the movie and I won’t disparage the feelings of the people who lost loved ones in the WTC attack but I think video of that attack on America should be shown more often.

America was attacked, we all were attacked that day and too many have the out of sight out of mind way of living that causes history to be forgotten or distorted.

We must never forget 9/11 and what that attack has cost this country.

You want to stop the flow of time. What should not have happened did as it has to countless people we have killed [whole towns ,cities and villiages we have dropped bombs on]. You want to deal with it by having a perpetual war fever mentality[against muslims]. That is a nationalist mindset that plagued much of europe in the past[and which you proclaimed you wereb so superior to]. you are becoming more tribal and nationalist as the world seeks to go beyod tribal hatreds.

I won’t go see the movie because Tom Hanks is in it. Knowing that if I give him money, he will give it to dumba** liberal causes and candidates. It‘s amazing how much money I keep saving everytime a hollywood liberal opens their mouth to call me prejudice or they donate to something I’m against. Well, I’m against giving my money to those people.

It’s hilarious how much money piss away on conservative causes. You‘ve been outraged for nearly four years yet still can’t see the writing on the wall, Obama‘s address isn’t changing until 2017.

“… images of the burning Twin Towers are insensitive.”

It’s time to get over the self-pity and baby whining of insensitivity. A bad act happened. Bad people did it. Many died and suffered. Move on. Quit whining and playing the perpetual victim card.

While I agree that a movie can be and should be made like this, without people picketing it, the quote you chose to criticize is incorrect and out of context.

It’s insensitive because of WHERE they decided to display it, not the images themselves. Imagine going to visit ground zero having lost a spouse in the trade center and seeing that.Or imagine almost losing your life. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is very real and, yes, a bad act happened, many suffered and died, but you don’t know what it was like to be there on that day, and to watch it happen again and again with a video so close to where it happened. I’m NOT all for the whole “awww it offended me thing” but this is one exception I think I’ll make, considering the fear and terror people felt and saw on that day.

awakeningiscoming: Let’s give an exception to this location huh?
I Know! Let‘s give exceptions to kids that can’t play sports as well as other kids. They need a trophy too! Oh, and let‘s give exceptions to people that can’t score high enough on the SAT’s to get into the college they want. Oh, and let‘s give exceptions to women who can’t lift 150# dead weight while climbing a ladder so that they can be fireman (oops firepersons) too.
      See what I did there….

Awakening, Ground Zero is now a memorial. So would you think if you walked into a museum that showed images or video from 9/11 at the memorial would also be insensitive? People need to quite playing the victim. Yes your loved one died over 10 years ago and it may feel like yesterday; if this is the case then you need professional help.

My mom died in 2003 and my dad in 2006 and I can talk about them without getting emotional; it has been much less time for me. Now true they didn’t die during 9/11 from a violent act, but they died none the less.

Hey, psst, AGGIEBREWER, everyone getting a trophy was a clever capitalist increasing business by a minimum of ten times. And here we thought conservatives embraced the entrepreneurial spirit.
