Study: Women Are More Moral Than Men

Women just scored another point in the never-ending battle between the genders after a study determined that they are more likely than men to make decisions based on how choices will impact others. Plainly stated: This means — according to the researcher behind the initiative — that women are more moral than men.

The study included questions about honesty and competency and it found that the moral compass of both men and women changes with age. Professor Roger Steare (known as a corporate philosopher) made conclusions based on what he calls a “Moral DNA test.” He developed the tool four years ago so that he could adequately measure changes in peoples’ values.

The Telegraph has more about how the morality-gauging study was — and continues to be — conducted:

Around 60,000 volunteers across 200 countries have already taken the quiz, encompassing a variety of jobs and social status to help understand what influences morality.

Participants were asked to make statements about their work and home lives, including judgments on whether those around them would consider them honest.

They then rated statements such as “I am good at exercising self-control” and “I always honour people’s trust in me” to establish their results.

Finally, they were labelled as one of six personality types: philosopher; judge; angel; teacher; enforcer; or guardian.

The end result, Steare says, is that women have a vested interest in making decisions based more on the collective whole than men do. On the flip side, men are much more likely to make choices out of self-interest, as they take a more individualist approach.

Here’s more about Steare and his quest for “a moral community”:

“What this shows is that when it comes to work men have to grow up, put their ego to one side and show some humility and compassion – qualities they all too often have in their personal lives but put to one side when they walk into the office,” he explained.

In an additional finding that seems to follow logic, the older people get, the more moral they generally become. Obedience, Steare found, decreased with age and reason increased.

“Interestingly the crossover point occurs around our mid-thirties, which is when we mature as adults,” he continued, going on to say that it is in peoples’ mid-60s that they fully develop their “intellectual and moral powers.”

    That man in the picture above just wants to hold that woman’s hand. She is out for blood. She thinks because he is dealing with her on her terms, she is tougher. It is just a little game men play with women to get attention. That man will likely, by instinct, protect that woman. She on the otherhand would see him very hurt to prove something, then jump in there and nurse him back to health. By then she would have made him mad and he would go out on her when he though about her being mean to him, just to get even. Then the war is on. That is why people need to deal honestly and treat their spouses as Christ treats the church. It is all a matter of if people want a lasting relationship or a good dose of some kind of STDs. It is better to marry than to burn.

      These studies are complete bull-crap, because people quite often lie to themselves for what they want to believe themselves are like, and therefore they will really lie to another person, and they won’t even really know they are lying because they believe their own B.S.

      Interesting interpretation of the picture–from a female perspective completely insane. An interpretation we all accept, and play “the game with” but beyond stupid. Women are people. Women are people. Women are people. We are pretty much just like you. But we carry the burden of children, the profound burden of children which contemporary men have completely abandoned. Somehow birth control has become an entirely “female” issue–really? Hey Buster if you don’t want to have a kid with me?, wear a reliable condom. You don’t like condoms? Sorry sorry sorry baby……

      Moreover, most so-called scientific studies are complete B.S, because if the person‘s studied can’t comprehend their own spiritual honesty to themselves, meaning if they can’t comprehend that whatever level in life they start their own children out at, that that is what the minimum is their child expects out of life. And if they can’t comprehend letting the invisible hand of Liberty “Of the word” “God” teach their toddlers a thing or two, to show children that a parent can teach them invisible lessons, moreover a parent denies it is true, then they are a liar. If a parent can lie in the face of the Lord, then they easily deceive themselves, making scientific studies based on lies that are made to be true.

      Being more empathetic != being more moral.

      Let me restate that.

      Being more concerned about how a decision impacts others IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE EQUIVALENT to being more moral. What’s interesting, of course, is that this is exactly the sort of assumption you’d expect from liberals. If there is no God, then good and bad is not absolute, it’s relative. And if you’re a strong humanist, it’s relative to humans. So, of course, they equate being more sensitive to other humans as being more moral.

      What’s a real world situation where these two viewpoints would lead to very different conclusions? I hate to go to this example because of it‘s controversy but it’s the only one that comes to mind: abortion (and I’m concentrating on the 90%+ of abortions that are not because of rape, incest or health concerns).

      I think an empathetic humanist is going to connect much more with the impact an unwanted pregnancy is going to have to the grown woman because you simply can’t empathize with the first stage of human development. None of us have memories from that stage. And the argument they tend to use is that it’s not a “real person” at that point.

      A christian (and there are many other religious views that assume a God but I have to go with the one I’m familiar with here) will quote the verse about God forming us in the womb and how He knows the number of hairs on our head before we were ever born. To a christian there‘s no question it’s a real person.

      @Ghost, Excellent point!.., in a civil society, both the man and the woman should not only have equal say, yet also equal accountability to the abandonment of a child. It has been far too convenient in our present society where we allow the woman to burden this alone. This is a choice that weighs heavy on a woman whereas she has become defensible, both legally and morally.

      Ghost–here is the thing–you want a say? I say right on, you should have a say. Except if you can’t be bothered to control your sexual activity, or take measures to limit your own procreation. So for instance–you and me we meet at a club and the spirit (and alcohol) moves us. You don’t bother to take precautions, nor do I. Pregnancy occurs, and the girl decides she doesn’t believe in abortion, so the game is on. You didn’t bother to protect yourself, and you somehow magically believe that the girl should protect you?, because it didn’t mean anything to you? Do you think it meant anything to her? Men need to grow up. You want to have sex but think women should protect you from the consequences? Are men really so infantile that they think everyone with a uterous is their Mommy? I simply can not get behind the belief that Men are so infantile as this.

      @woebegone, I believe you’re proving my point… because of the legalities, women have become defensive, and defensible… because men do not have a say and are not always held accountable. Under your example, it still took two, each needs to take responsibility for their actions. Just because it is the woman who carries a child to birth, she should not have to burden the moral responsibilities alone. Birth control is just a precaution, not a guarantee… Children are a gift.

      It‘s my body I’ll do what I want with it.
      However, If I get drunk and loose up at the bar, it‘s now the man’s responsibility to make sure you don’t get knocked up.
      It is the woman’s choice all the time, after all a woman can stop a sexual act in mid stride with a word, it is her body, as established by the courts, so it is her responsibility to stay childless.
      If you have the right to say no baby no baby no baby, you have absolved the man of all responsibility.

      If you look at your relationships with your women over the decades, starting in your teens to where you are now, How does your own integrity stack up against your girls. You’ll find, I will bet, your woman was better behaved in about half and you were the better half in the remainder.
      i do know that any woman who won‘t stand by you when you need her ain’t worth having around. Myself, I won’t commit to a woman that I am not willing to fight for. Most of the women I meet these days have no grace, and rarely any inner reflection. It was in the cards that the genders would on one hand become the same culturally, and grow apart in intimacy. This is because most people are or have been ‘intimate” with too many. This has jaded these individuals to the point that real intimacy is not available…so love suffers. Morality on the scale this “study” was done is a “relative” type of morality. As such it does not tell us anything new, except that in our brave new P.C. world a man can’t find a place to be himself…except behind his drumset, or on his scooter.

      Vanity and self-interest are the hall marks of womanhood so what ever does not support womens’ interests are not moral. This is because of the motherhood thing, Men on the other hand wear the mantles of protector and provider and these are gross, dangerous and physically difficult. Fatherhood makes these “ugly(immoral)” activities necessary.
      Without family ties there can’t really be any justifiable morality. Untamed men and unbridled women don’t have a rudder. They will end up where the tide takes them. Flotsom.

Its done on a whim, and doesn’t take into consideration the complications, not only of unwanted pregnancy, but the emotional complications that make people less trusting and more desperate. Establish a RELATIONSHIP first and the intimacy is healing not destructive….women’s lib, the pill, and the resulting sexual revolution made fools out of men and harlots out of women. How many hot sweaty sultry hours of lustful passion have you forgotten? Can you pull up all of their faces? How many people got hurt? How many times were you hurt? It’s a saving grace to find a loving mate.

    The question I have is whether having an abortion and supporting others to have abortions makes you moral or immoral…..Some churches these days which the state has taken over,say you are immoral if you oppose abortions….So the answer to that question may change the results of this study.

    Such BS…the underlying message is that it is more moral to make decisions based on the collective, so therefore, women are more moral. I am not buying it because the principle enunciated in the article gives perfect plausibility to taking from one by force to give to another. So as a loving father and husband, it is OK for the government to appropriate via taxation to pay for folks that do not possess the virtue I exhibit daily to provide for my family, love and support my wife, to be diligent in my work, and to care for my fellow citizens via voluntary charitable giving. This is a sharply dressed attack on individual rights and an expansion of unrelenting external responsibility for things I am not accountable for…either ethically or morally.

    Of course women are more moral although not much more. Because 120 years ago they began making women unlike their mothers; thus began women not to look for good father traits; thus began women not raising the sons up to the fathers. Then the fathers fell away from the sons, and the sons away from the fathers; thus the sons grew up into men who are not loyal to their sons, because if they are not loyal to their fathers then they can not be loyal to their son. And if a father isn’t loyal to the son which is the light of the father and of the mother, then a father will not be loyal to the mother. They really screwed up America huh.

      Maybe another reason men are not moral is because they would like their wife to like them the way the husband already is rather than get molded into a woman’s favorite romance novel or whatever she “Dreams” a husband should be. At any rate, I know where all this goes, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. Additionally, I would not call 50% of women under 30 years old having children out of wed-lock the epitome of morality. And what’s the other 50% doing, having abortions? A good portion of them are.

    People who study mating behavior among humans and the ape family have long maintained that without promiscuous behavior on the part of males and females, the gene pool would suffer and the species also suffer. That explains, they say, why the human species has been so successful, with seventy percent of men and thrity to fifty percent of women being heartily promiscuous.

    It has been my experience that the 70: 30-50 ratio is more liekly 70:50.

      The conclusion the “men are more moral than women” would NEVER be allowed to make it through the peer review process. It would be considered mysoginistic and never even be seriosly reviewed.       Does it ever occur to you that some women abort because they have the temerity to hope that may can make a contribution not based on passing on genetic material???? Does it ever occur to you that men in the greater segment of society are completely without any integration of the gravity of real responsibility regarding reproduction?     I don’t have a hard time believing that women are more moral than men today. However, these same women are less moral than their mothers and grandmothers were. Unfortunately, that doesn’t speak highly to our society as a whole (i.e., we are decreasing in or morals and values).

      What the story fails to show is that as women become a bigger part of our government entitlements have grown to the point where the system is collapsed. Can we imply that by the writer coupling morality with taking from the individual to give to the masses that women are at the root cause of our economic woos. Can we all so imply that since most of these entitlements are the spawn of Elanor Roservelt playing a large role in leading the country during FDR reign that she is ROOT CAUSE OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE FREE SOCIETY.
      Is it pure coincidence that the strongest man in the bible was taken down by a woman. And the strongest nation in the world is being taken down by women and their quote unquote moral superiority.

      For every man who left his kids to let a woman raise them, there is a woman IMMORALLY robbing me of my money through welfare, housing, food stamps and sitting on their a@@es.
      Morality? Hell we have no morality from those who I support with a welfare check. If we did we wouldnt have to see them using drugs, whoring and dinking….Women are more moral? Sure..That should nmake you feel good as you rob the taxpayers…

    That explains it all. The women took the time to read each question thoroughly and take the time to answer each question. On the other hand, the man was distracted after 5 minutes, answered “C” for everything, then went to the bar.

    The only thing this test proves is Man’s attention span is 5 minutes unless beer, food or sports are involved.

    That depends…if you have a Godly man than I agree…If you have a union member…not so much…these guys traded their sould, when they joined the unions…no work ethics…cheat their employer out a days wage…will steal anything they can…thinking the whole time that they deserve it and the “man” makes too much money…showing their wives “boobies” via text…these are just some of the “experiences” my hubby brings home..Thank the sweet Lord I’ve got a Godly man!

      I would say the same about my golden retriever…..I know she is a democrat its obvious. Free healthcare, no rent, no work, free food and wants snaks like bonz….no doubt a democrat….I think when she stares at me, is she just waiting to pick the meat off my bones after I die? She knows I am a conservative…..maybe its that moment of wolf memories and she will just kill me right there? Just wonder about those things. Moral…never trust a democrat.
