Stunning Leopard Attack in India Caught on Camera

KOLKATA, India (AP) — A leopard that mauled 11 people in a fierce showdown with Indian villagers has died of knife wounds after being captured.

The snarling adult, male leopard leapt at locals and forest officials as they tried to drive it into a wildlife sanctuary in West Bengal state.

Forest official Dharma Dev Rai says villagers used knives, stones and batons to beat back the cat. It injured six villagers, a policeman and four forest guards before being hit with a tranquilizer gun Tuesday.

Leopards are protected in India though more are straying into villages for food.

This is in response to your belief that the earth will be over run with humans in the near future…
1st, this has been a long held belief and the free thinkers of the world, dating back as far as the Roman empire there were men who proclaimed that we would be like locusts on the land and suck it dry. Hasn’t happened yet.
2nd, the Georgia guide stones proclaim that the carrying capacity of the earth is 500 million, that means that we need to exterminate 5.5 billion people, or about 95% of the world’s population. Who will choose who should live and who must die or be sterilized? Are you up to that task?
3rd, There are advances in technology every year and every once in a while there are breakthroughs that allow us to support even more people than we have. This is the natural cycle of human invention and it has served us well. Today, there are more large game animals in the US than there were in 1900 despite having an vastly greater human population. To throw some numbers out, ~ 500,000 deer in 1900, today, 1.5 million car-deer accidents a year, ~ 20+ million population. Bison, 100,000. This is a trend due to the fact that man has evolved in his needs for land and how food is obtained. More people live in cities and that leaves alot of farm land with little human population and alot of food.
Finally, as countries become more advanced, the birth rate drops drastically due to decreased child mortality and other factors.

      You are being simply naiv

Probably, over-hunting in the forest caused this cat to find another source of food. Too bad they weren’t able to tranquilize it quick enough.

Couldn’t agree more. Humans are the ONLY species who doesn’t belong here. Humans are the ONLY species who is over-populated. Yet we have the audacity to move THEM out of their habitats.

@Erica – Humans doesn’t belong here? Where does we belongs? Your planet?
Humans are the ONLY species who is over-populated? That not true, too.
Aside from your lack of grammar, you don’t know anything about life on THIS planet. Many species are over-populated at times. When that happens they are brought back into balance by disease, starvation or preydation.

Actually you could fit the entire world’s population within the boundaries of Texas. Doesn’t sound too overpopulated then does it. The problem of resources could be remedied if the corruption of government could be remedied.
