Thursday evening much of the New York City and its metropolitan areas were issued severe thunderstorm warnings. As of this morning, more than 30,000 are reported to be without power, and Elmira, N.Y., is suspected to have endured a tornado.
Some are calling this latest severe storm to hit the northeast another derecho, comparing it to the violent storm that rolled through much of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and Pennsylvania earlier in the month and knocking out power for thousands customers for several days during an extreme heat wave.
This is also the second severe storm to hit New York City within the last week.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Nicosia said a helicopter was being dispatched to the Elmira area to assess the damage and determine if it was a tornado.

A state of emergency and curfew were in effect until 8 a.m. in the Elmira, with only emergency vehicles allowed on the streets while fallen trees and power lines were being cleared, Miner said. A shelter was set up at the Elmira Free Academy for residents who didn’t want to stay in homes without power, she said.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared an emergency for surrounding Chemung County to allow the state to mobilize state resources to assist local governments. “This state of emergency declaration will help the state get critical resources to communities that were hit the hardest,” Cuomo said.
About 16,000 utility customers in Chemung County were still without power early Friday. After the thunderstorms had moved over the New York City area, about 160 Consolidated Edison customers were still without power.
The Long Island Power Authority reported that 284 customers on Long Island were without power as of 3 a.m. Friday. About 17,000 other utility customers in the state also were without power early Friday.
Related to the power outages, a New York resident caught shocking footage of a transformer explosion from his backyard that occurred as a result of the storm. Watch it here (via Fox News Insider):

The storm that hit Manhattan around 8 p.m. yesterday was reported by CNN iReport producer (via CNN) to have been “intense but short.” After the rain cleared, it was reported the “lightning show began.”

Posted on July 27, 2012 at 1:49pmMany outrages are caused by the usage of [ALUMINUM POWER TRANSMITION LINES].
Report Post »The power companies used to have COPPER transmition lines which would stretch-out before breaking.
1] Copper is very flexeible and can, when getting too hot or pulled-on by trees&wind(etc) will streatch-out a large percentage before breakage occurrs.
2] Copper melts at a much higher temoerature than aluminum and can take a much-greater electrical or physical overload before melting/breaking.
3] Aluminum-wire, when stretched-slightly, will heat-up greatly from the “streatch”, harden-up and snapp!! Aluminum wire doesn’t “bend-well” before smapping! Aluminum-wire doesn’t streatch far before it heats-up, hardens/becomes-brittle, then snapps!
4] Aluminum CONDUCTS electricity 50%as well as copper and has to be 50%thicker to cary the same load. Plus you don’t want it to melt-under-load, so you add annother thickness-diameter. This is why the electric-motor-industry uses almost no aluminum to wind their motors! Even the cheepest chineese-electric-micro-shaver uses a copper-wound-motor. The electric motors with aluminum-windings would have to be much larger because of the 50> 60% larger windings internally, and the much-larger cooling-fans built-in to keep the “overload” from melting all the wire.
When we had storms in the 50′s>70′s you almost never heard of “transmission-lines-snapping”, and creating 100,000outages or more. The COPPER wires streatched and bent instead of

Posted on July 27, 2012 at 3:19pmInteresting if somewhat less than accurate. Most power cabling with Aluminum are made from ACSR (short for aluminum conductor – steel reinforced). Aluminium is an excellent conductor and because of the increased diameter used the corona effect is reduced in lines under high potential current (no premature discharge of current). It is much lighter than copper so can be used over much greater distances w/o tearing itself apart even without the steal reinforcement used in most applications. Copper is quite expensive compared with aluminum making it more practical economically. Comparing power lines to electric motor winding as an argument for copper power lines is not real convincing.

Posted on July 27, 2012 at 11:21amHeat lightening is common out West but uncommon back east where its humid during summer months. Again I am hearing headlines like “This is the worst we’ve ever seen”. We are told that men will fall dead for fear of the things coming upon the earth. Is it getting worse? Is something inside you telling you that something is about to happen? If so, your not alone! People I talk too, some believers in God and some not will agree something is not quite right. Its nagging at them and they either try to ignore it or investigate. If your in the later camp, this urge to do something is a calling from the Lord. Oh yes! He can reach us collectively in many ways. These signs are meant for a purpose, they are to get you ready! They are warnings and urgings! Why else send us signs and wonders? These things all marry up with what we are told in Matthew 24 from the Son of God who was and is and will always be.

If you live in Texas (summer mega-weather, hot, humid), Arizona (summer mega-heat at 113+), or in Colorado (summer mega storms, hail, wind, tornadoes) then it doesn‘t happen or doesn’t count.

While it’s not normal for NYC in the last few decades, these and worse storms used to hit the northeast coast all the time. In fact, they used to come during the winter as well and kill hundreds of people each year.

I’ve been watching Socal skys for a few years now when this thing called Chemtrails was brought to my attention. We are seeing out here on the West coast a strange….well…absence of chemtrails for the past few months now. Last year and earlier this year they were everyday. Now the skys have been contrail free. We can see correlations in the weather as well! The contrails do not affect us locally other than giving us some shade, but as they move east and over the Rockys things begin to take affect esp in the midwest with rains and tornado outbreaks. This was when they were heavy and everyday! Now that they are absent we see what? Drought! Isn’t that just a lil weird? I thought so too!

At times, I’ve watched SIX different planes in the air spraying over Nashville. Some days they spray in the morning and late afternoon. We are all in big trouble if we have a real disaster. The Huffington post did write an article about the “coal baron” who owns the Greenbrier Hotel. People were actually mad because they wanted to get the power back on for a golf tournament which brings in lots of money and creates jobs in a very small town where it’s located. People don’t have a clue.
