Suicide Bomber at Mosque in Iraq Kills 29

Suicide Bomber at Mosque in Iraq Kills 29

A suicide bomber blew himself up inside Baghdad’s largest Sunni mosque Sunday night. Iraqi police and hospital officials say 29 worshippers have been killed by the suicide bomber.

Officials say 38 more people were injured in the 9:40 p.m strike on the Um al-Qura mosque during prayers in the western Baghdad neighborhood of Al-Jamiaah. Parliament lawmaker Khalid al-Fahdawi was among the dead.

Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, a spokesman for Baghdad’s military operations command, confirmed the attack happened inside the Um al-Qura mosque during prayers in the western Baghdad neighborhood of Al-Jamiaah.

The blue-domed building is the largest Sunni mosque in Baghdad.

The attack hit Sunnis who were praying in a special service during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, which ends Tuesday. It demonstrates anew that security measures to protect Iraqis as U.S. forces prepare to leave remain riddled with gaps, and shows the extent to which militants want to extend violence even as the eight-year- U.S. presence winds down.

That the bomber detonated his explosives vest inside the mosque is particularly alarming, because it is reminiscent of a 2006 attack on a Shiite shrine in the Sunni city of Samarra that fueled widespread sectarian violence and brought Iraq to the brink of civil war.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for Sunday’s bombing. Suicide bombings generally are a hallmark of al-Qaida, which is dominated by Sunnis.

The mosque’s security is provided by the government-supported Sunni Endowment, and al-Moussawi raised the possibility that the bomber had inside help.

“For sure there must have been someone inside the mosque who helped the bomber,” al-Moussawi said. “It must have been someone who is protecting the mosque.”

On Saturday 33 people died across Iraq, including 24 that were incinerated on a bus carrying vacationing families through northern Iraq that collided head-on with a car.

Sharia law: is the body of Islamic religious law. The term means “way” or “path to the water source”.
The path to the water source??? I was wondering if the verse below could be a possible reference to sharia law. This was written before Islam existed.
Could there be a connection here????
Rev 12:15-17 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

I bet you call yourself a “Christian” too.

    Matthew 5

    44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

45 That ye amay be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

Don’t doubt the power of ones and twos. Since 9/11 Muslims have committed nearly 18,000 unique jihad terrorist attacks with many many times that number of dead bodies. They don’t need to kill hundreds every time, they are killing ten or twenty every day of the year, year after year, and it adds up. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/

Where is good ole Rose Ellen when you need her? Good example of the Muslim’s peaceful way of life. When they aren’t hanging nine year old children for sport or hiding bombs in their girly skirts they kill each other. That’s their mentality. They all have the same little allah and simply kill for the sport of it. That’s the way they have have been taught by their father Muhammad. Where is their arab spring now? Biggest bunch of drunkards and hypocrites that ever existed. They wipe their noses on the sharia law and then condemn the Christians.

      FireRose:
You got that right and when you look into it the two sides are really fighting like the Jews and Arabs after Abraham’s wife kicked out his first born son Ishmael with his mother because she screwed up and gave the slave woman to Abraham to fulfil G-d’s Promise to Sarah that at her old age G-d would provide them with a Son. And that lineage has been fighting ever since.

But was is really peculiar is that they don’t fight over religion, they fight over the lineage of who can be an Imam in the sect of Mohamed. Because if you break it down to its basic parts Mohamed came 600 years after Jesus so there was at least some verbal tradition about Jesus’s life and times and his followers would have been in the area.

The also fight over which City in the Peninsula of Arabia whether it is Mecca or Medina is the true Holy City and on and on and on.

trueone55, that is not true about Ishmael. At most a small portion of Arabs were from that line, and in any case it is highly unlikely that Muhammad was. The only reason Muhammad included Abraham in his Koran was to attempt to glom onto the stories of the Bible, to try to legitimize his own new religion he was inventing. The same names are used as in the Bible but the stories are entirely different, including of course Jesus who Islam denies died on the cross, denies he rose from the dead, therefore denies the entire Christian religion. The differences with what is in the Torah are also significant. Meaning they can’t all be true, the Bible and the Torah agree as to Abraham, the Koran is the outlier.

firerose, look at the history of islam, muhammad was worse than hitler, he massacred all the Jews of Arabia, just what hitler tried to do in Germany but failed. Islam and Muhammad are worse than Hitler by any rational analysis. Hitler was stopped, Islam continues. The Koran contains worse than the post you were responding to.

Steve, to say “forever” would include all of the thousands of years BC plus the years AD up to the 7th century. Muhammad was the instigator to the fighting, it started with him, and as soon as he died his immediate followers split into two factions and have been fighting even among themselves since. If Muhammad had never been born Arabia and the other countries controlled by Islam would have developed more or less like the rest of the world, as Christian, Jew, Hindu, other, and those parts of the world would be normal. This isn‘t to say there wouldn’t be wars, that happens, but with Islam it is literally part of the religion, war against infidels, and due to the two major sects in Islam they also fight between themselves. When people say they have been fighting forever they seem to dismiss the unique aspects of Islam that cause fighting.

Am beginning to join the “let’s leave and let them kill one another” club. Thought Bush was a bit naive when he thought that by removing Saddam, those people would relish freedom. But thought that it was worth a try. Guess what? Didn’t help. They didn’t change and maybe we should leave. One thing for sure, we need to protect ourselves from these crazed, suicidal fanatics. Think this is Mother Nature’s way of curbing the population. Hopefully, them and not us.

Uh, its a mosque… do these blood thirty killers and murders have no kind of line not to step over, I mean… its just pathetic and then we are supposed to somehow feel sorry for these people, to “feel their pain” gimme a break… they all act like children, they can’t sit down and get their way through normal, grown up means, so they resort to murder and killing, yeah, that’s really productive.

Exactly right, Nation building is a joke and should never be tried again! True Freedom must be earned and will never work if the people are not ready for it. That peace loving religion knows no bounds, they kill infidels and muslims alike, the young the old, no matter. Islam is a cult of intimidation, subjegation, death and destruction. History has very few examples of muslim peace and harmony.

Let the world remember, American soldiers did not even fire on mosques, but these muslims blow them up.

Quite frankly, no matter how much we help these countries, how much food, medicine, money we provide them, they hate us…

We end up getting bad feelings from the global community no matter what… It gets to the point where we should just carpet bomb the whole damned region with tactical nukes, wipe the entire region out completely and then we’ll get judged just the same as helping them… .the difference? instead of 10 years an a trillion spent and over 5K of American soldiers dead…. 1 day, a few billion in nukes and done.

Getting so sick of trying to help these ungrateful pieces of garbage, let them all rot and die in their own hatred and filth.

They hate US but they seem to hate each other almost as much. We have enough problems in our part of the world without trying to fix something that has been broken for thousands of years. Get out now, let them marter their own and deal with whatever is left. By deal I mean step back and push that big red button and turn them into glass if they still want a piece of us.

Muslims have no interest in compromise for the sake of a nation state. It’s all about domination of whatever view the sect holds, and settling scores that have been around for generations.
