Sunday Morning Skepticism: What’s the Real Story Behind Video of TSA Strip-Searching a Boy?

So many stories and videos are flying about terrible things happening at TSA checkpoints.  Many of them are true.  Some are not.  A lot are exaggerations or examples of things that did not happen recently.  We’ve posted about that here and here.

So what do make of the newest viral video purporting to show a young boy being stripped searched:

The video was posed on the 19th by lukemtait.  It’s the only video on that channel right now.  Other people are now copying the video and reposting it of course.

This is the caption on the video:

Lets get the facts straight first. Before the video started the boy went through a metal detector and didn’t set it off but was selected for a pat down. The boy was shy so the TSA couldn’t complete the full pat on the young boy. The father tried several times to just hold the boys arms out for the TSA agent but I guess it didn’t end up being enough for the guy. I was about 30 ft away so i couldn’t hear their conversation if there was any. The enraged father pulled his son shirt off and gave it to the TSA agent to search, thats when this video begins.

For a caption that begins, “Lets get the facts straight first,” it is exactly the opposite of helpful in that regard!  You almost have to go out of your way to not include when and where this happened.  In my experience when video posters leave out information like that there is usually a reason.

We see only 39 seconds.  We don’t know what happened before or after.  The poster says the metal detector didn’t go off but that the boy was selected for a pat-down anyway.  Is that what happened?  The father seems relatively clam.  Would you be?

On the other hand, we hear the announcement in the background for Southwest flight 2706 to Oakland.  If I’m reading the chart right, there does seem to have been a flight on the 19th with that number from Salt Lake City to Oakland.  You may also note that on the lukemtait youtube channel that the “recent activity” section notes a comment made by lukemtait on another video — a trailer for a documentary critical of the Mormon church. Update:  A commenter asked why I mentioned the the Mormon connection — it was to perhaps add support to the idea that this may really have been the Salt Lake City airport on the 19th.  There are Mormons everywhere of course!  But if the person who posted the video is a defender of the Mormon church, and if there was a Southwest flight 2706 from Salt Lake City to Oakland on the 19th…could these be clues to the videos legitimacy?

So is this video something that happened recently and is another sign of outrageous extremes at TSA screening?  Or will there be another explanation?  Post your thoughts to comments!

    Like I continue to say, stop flying and they will get the message. I am truly sorry that people think that they have the right to abuse your freedoms and get away with it. But the only freedoms that you have are the ones that you are willing to fight for. If you stop flying then they will stop this crap. I know that it will be a great inconvenience for you. But which is worse?

      What about the percentage of the populace who needs to fly for their job? If something doesn’t happen soon, this invasive process will be appearing on other forms of transportation, as well as required to enter public places like malls or sporting events. This is big government, folks.

    While your all worried about haveing your JUNK grabed who will be on the flight TPTB decide to blow out of the sky when this gets so bad it starts to fail??

    There is a reason for fondleing kids and woman and it has nothing to do with safety.TPTB tryed to create this fear with a couple of failed attemps and it does not seem to be working……………drastic measures are in order Im thinking.

    President referred to the underwear bomber as the reason. THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!!

    The underwear bomber would just go through the metal detector or full body scanner which would not detect liquids. Thus these pat downs don’t even address the known threats. Also the underwear bomber should have never gotten a ticket because his dad already warned our state department, he brought a one way ticket and he ws from Yemen.

    I don’t really care how unruly the child is. Taking a child’s clothing off – in front of a public audience – and having them stand there with 3-5 agents probing and looking them up and down is unacceptable.

    Even if this is a couple of years old, which I don’t believe, didn’t we have the 4th amendment then????
    There wasn’t much audio, but I did not hear the kid until the TSA agents hands were in the groin area.
    And what have the Mormons got to do with it? You should be ashamed for bringing that into it.

    Myself and another passenger were flying out of Ft Lauderdale airport to Atlanta. We did not set off the alarm going through the metal detector but were still marked for x ray scanner. Pat’s story can be found here. http://teapartyfortlauderdale.com/news.html He is a much better writer than I.

    This morning flight from Ft Lauderdale to Atlanta had a medical emergency in flight about half way through. Upon landing passengers were asked to stay seated while paramedics boarded and attended to the passenger in first class. Our prayers are with the man and his family. I am unsure of his condition.

    Once I exited the plane into the terminal I was spooked by a recorded alarms and flashing lights, the alarm stating
    “”Attention please, attention please, relocate to a safe area within the building near a safe exit and await further instructions, do not use elevators.”

    I asked the only TSA person present if this alarm was due to the medical emergency that happened on the plane, she said she did not think so, I asked if this was a drill, she said she did not think so, BUT “if I see people running then you know it is hitting the fan”. I steeped back as she walked away with a grin and thought If this is what our millions of stimulus have accomplished we are indeed in deep trouble. I pulled ou t my Iphone and began to record. I captured the security warning audio message in full and then stopped recording.

    The trip started in Ft Lauderdale airport where a TSA agent asked me to walk through the metal detector, I did without a beep. I was then lured into one of the x-ray machines, I was not told I was going to be scanned. Upon realizing what they were attempting to do I told the TSA agent I refuse to be scanned. My opt out was announced publicly and then by walkie talkie. I was then paraded to a small roped off area for pat down. My TSA assaulter was gentle compared to the horror stories I have read about to date.. The process took 2-4 minutes. After what I assume was some kind of chemical test I was told I was free to go. I know a TSA agent. They do in fact profile just so you know. The problem is it is left up to the discretion of the agent. If you have a liberal America hating agent you can be sure those who are devout followers of a religion who track record of followers who blow up planes is rather alarming. Then you have the grandmas and children who are being run up the flag pole? Someone needs to tell the TSA you don’t look for oranges in a apple orchard.

That little paycheck, and the false promise of a nice retirement, isn’t worth it. You TSA workers are being placed on the front lines of a war between the government and the citizens of the United States, and the front line is where the first casualties will occur. Count on it.

    Probably so they could say they were otherwise busy and had an excuse so as not to have to “feel up” Oh,,,pardon me… “PAT DOWN muslim looking or muslim passangers boarding the flight. UNBELIEVABLE !!! HEY… detain and “Pat Down” that 80 yr old ,grey haired Granny from Iowa! No ma’am, no need to remove your veil, and no sir, we dont need you to have your koran inspected.     While I would hope folks would stick to actual, recent situations, does it really matter? The “enhanced pat downs” and “forced nude body scans” are still unconstitutional, therefore illegal and completely unreasonable!

    I think the TSA has jumped the shark…. I hope Thanksgiving is chaos enough to get the to re-consider, if not then we need to hit the airlines where it hurts– don’t fly.
    I have used both Greyhound and amtrak to travel the country, and you can be comfortable on amtrak, and cheap on greyhound but something needs to be done with this “unlawful search and seizure”

    Based upon body language of this TSA man along with body language and whining of the boy, my opinion is this was not a strip search rather an effort to speed up the process delayed by an uncooperative child. Easy to see this boy is fighting back tooth and nail.

    However, this TSA fat girl with her arms folded across her chest gives me the creeps.

      I would like you opinion about why the TSA is doing this now. One theory I have is because this is the busiest air travel time of the year I think this is a deliberate effort to decrease the number of people flying. This will decrease the revenue of all air lines and could lead to some of them becoming insolvent. If enough of the air lines are forced to the brink of financial collapse then the government can step in and take them over just like they did to GM and Chrysler. The leftist in control of our government do not do anything by accident. They have been planning for decades the destruction of our Republic and Capitalism. Everyone is angry with the TSA but I haven’t seen anyone asking why they are doing this. TSA could not be doing this without approval from the highest levels of the government. The American people need to find the answer to why is this happening. We know Cas Susteen is a master at manipulating behavior. We know the Progressives in our government view the American people with contempt.

      No socialist conspiracy here. This is simply our government is taken over by former Walmart employees seeking better benefit packages. TSA agents are simply former Walmart stock clerks with badges pinned on their chests.

      Ben Gurion International Airport over in Israel enjoys an excellent track record. Over the past thirty years not a single terrorist incident, not a single aeroliner highjacked. Reason for this is intuitive and a reflection of common sense. Israel employs the best and brightest of people for airport security. Israel has a policy of hiring those who have exceptionally high IQ, who are college educated, who are exceptionally keen and each security agent is well trained in specialized psychological profiling.

      Israel relies on spotting certain telltale behaviors. Security begins by scanning license plates of entering cars for an instant check, drivers and passengers are asked certain questions and given a good looking over for body language which suggests a problem.

      Entering Ben Gurion Airport, fliers are again asked a barrage of questions, simple questions which are designed to reveal a “nervous” demeanor. Additionally, regardless of clothing nor skin color, those with Arab accents are pulled aside for extra screening.

      Israel relies on highly intelligent agents well trained in psychological profiling. This is not racial profiling, this is profiling based upon body language and verbal responses; psychology.

      Ben Gurion International Airport — thirty years, not a single incident; dangerous people are spotted out on the street, and spotted before even coming close to an aeroliner terminal. There are no naked picture machines and no groping hands, just metal detectors and luggage x-ray machines.

      Here in America, we hire former Walmart, K-Mart and 99 Cent store employees whose aspirations are no higher than spending their retirement years sitting on couches drinking beer while watching Opra and Dr. Phil. This hiring of fat ass lazy ignorant people is not restricted to the TSA, every government office, municipal to state to federal, is populated by those rubes, including the Oval Office. Only reason Obama does not have a fat ass is he is cigarette skinny. Michelle makes up for his lacking in fat. However, both Barack and Michelle are ignorant and lazy.

      There is no socialist conspiracy involved in this TSA comedy; those folks are too stupid to pull off anything more elaborate than checking diapers for poop bombs.

      There is only one true conspiracy which is a hapless unintended takeover of government by blithering idiots evidenced by so many villagers taping up missing posters for their village idiots. Humorous those villagers do not have enough sense to go over to Capitol Hill to find their missing village idiots.

      Go back and have another look at her. This is how psychological profiling works. Some fat people will be angered by this. Tough titty said the kitty but the milk is good.

      Her physical appearance, obesity, is a reflection of her suffering poor mental health. People become fat because of a lack of self-confidence and a lack of self-control. Fat people “reward” themselves with food to compensate for their personal inadequacies , and fat people are addicted to eating for the “high” created by released chemicals in their brains. Fat people are drug addicts. This fat girl TSA agent is suspect. She does not fit the profile of a terrorist but she does fit the profile of a person who makes for a lousy employee.

      Look at her body language, legs pressed together, knees locked, belly thrust out and her arms are firmly crossed upon her chest. She is a control freak. She is a power tripper. She is abusive to people. She is this way because she is angry with herself and angry with her life. A resultant is she takes out her anger on other people. She is a “drag down” fat girl. She will deliberately humiliate and abuse people to drag them down to her miserable level of thinking and behavior. She pumps herself up, mentally, by effecting power over other people.

      She should not be a TSA agent. She is incompetent and mentally unhealthy. These conclusions of mine are drawn upon nothing more than her weight and her body language.

      Mine is psychological profiling. This is why Israel so excels in airport security; common sense and aversion to political correctness.

      I respect your opinion but I think there is more to this than stupidity. Obama could stop this immediately if he wanted to. Instead the TSA announced yesterday people not complying with these intrusive searches face an $11,000 fine and jail. They are not backing down, they are doubling down. I don’t like a thing Lord Obama is doing but, he is not an idiot. Have you read Rules for Radicals or The Coming Insurrection? These are but two of the hand books of the American hating radicals actively working to fundamentally transform America. I agree most TSA agents are not the sharpest tool in the shed but this could be easily stopped if Obama wanted it stopped. You are correct the Israeli system is much better and safer than ours, but they deal a fraction of the number of flights in the US. When things like this happen I always ask why is this happening, who benefits from this happening. I hope you are correct; you usually are.

      There is a need to introduce math. This is not comparing a diesel rig hauling cattle to an Escalade hauling kids. Sheer number of aeroliner passengers is not the measure. The measure of success in aeroliner safety is the number of terrorist incidents prevented. Europe and America have a poor track record; lots of successful terrorist incidents. Israel, none in thirty years.

      What you are alluding to scale of operations. Israel does have much less aeroliner traffic requiring less security personal compared to Heathrow in England or Dallas / Fort Worth in Texas. However, a smaller operation is not reason for Israel enjoying success, rather their success is in technique.

      Here in America we could effect the same security measures as Israel. This is simply a matter of hiring highly trained professionals and paying those people well. Some will argue expense but this is easily countered by our higher number of air passengers producing more revenue than does Israel. We can afford this.

      A pretend example. Israel spends ten percent of airline revenue and services 100 passengers per year. America spends ten percent of airline revenue and services 1,000 passengers per year. This is not a question of total monetary costs, this is a question of percentage of revenue costs. Successful operation of any business is not based upon gross revenue rather is based upon gross percentage profit. Israel spends less but spends the same percentage of revenue. America spends more but spends the same percentage of revenue.

      Reason America is a failure at airport security is political correctness.

      None benefit from TSA security policy. All of this is simply idiocy. Islamic terrorists have already switched tactics. America is obsessing on airport security while Muslims are walking across our southern border while carrying backpack nukes.

      Homeland Security is to be a comprehensive policy which includes security everywhere, airports, train stations, bus stations, our sea ports along with our utility infrastructures, water reservoirs and other sensitive vital interests. Most important is closing and securing our borders.

      Highly critical, we need the Israel model of profiling. A three old girl is not likely to be carrying a bomb but a thirty year old Arab man is certainly more likely to be carrying a bomb.

      Political Correctness is killing us, as are those idiots in charge of government.

      It is too simple to explain this away as idiocy. Obama has taken over GM and Chrysler. The government has imposed financial regulations that scare American business into inaction and kept unemployment high. He has forced through Congress the takeover of Health Care. He has a record number of Americans on food stamps and government aid. This is a well thought out plan by people that are misguided but, not idiots. I had a difficult time believing the President and the Democrat leaders in Congress are working against the American people. I believe they are hard core Marxist ideologist that truly believe what they are doing is in the best interest of the American people. You astutely explain how the Israeli security could work here but you only explain why the TSA is doing this as they are stupid. Yes the TSA agents at the airport are stupid but, this is coming for the top. If it was not coming from the top, the TSA leaders would be threatening the TSA agents not the American people flying. The thing stupid people understand the most is brute force. If every TSA agent were told they must stop this brutish behavior or be fired they would stop. Look at all the accomplishments of Obama and the leftist is less than two years, they are not stupid.

Most annoying is Obama is more arrogant than the Queen of Mean, late Leona Helmsley, and Obama acts much like her through his constantly having a sex crazed poodle on his arm, Al Gore.

His ignorance is defeating him and his arrogance leads him to his defeat like Custer led his men to defeat at Little Big Horn. Obama has the power of the presidency, he is effecting some actions which piss us off, but Obama is an impotent lame duck president, a guaranteed one term president like goober pea Carter.

      In essence, Obama is slinging a lot of crap around but it ain’t sticking to any walls. He is causing damage to our America but come January, we will begin repairing this damage he is causing. Come January, Obama will be emasculated not that there is anything masculine about him now, certainly not after Sarah Palin got after him with her political scissors.

      Some see this as a defeat for America. I see this as an awakening of a giant, our America peoples, just like a famous Japanese Admiral saw an awakening giant after destroying Pearl Harbor.

      Benefit is Americans have been slapped around and slapped down. Americans are finally snapping out of their spoiled brat lazy way thinking and shouting out, “I‘m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!” All of this mess is, after all, our own fault.

      We elected our first black president hoping for free handouts, we have learned, and we will not elect another black president for a century or more; we were just as ignorant as Obama. We have learned, Obama remains a blithering idiot.

      Root cause of our American mess is idiocy. Yes, all this Marxism, racism and hatred coming out of the White House and out of Capitol Hill causes us concern, rightfully so. We are suffering, we are damaged, but this will not last. Obama will not win, he is simply too stupid.

      Obama is an arrogant idiot who believes himself so powerful he can do whatever he likes. He is painfully learning different, and in 2012 we will kick his sorry butt clean over the moon. Obama will just be a bad memory, and will be forgotten when Americans roll up their sleeves and get to work repairing the damage Obama has done to our home, America.

      This is true. Taha is no longer allowed to participate at The Blaze since yesterday. Our family has no explanation for this, Taha is not vulgar, hateful nor racist. She is well liked here by almost all. Our presumption is Glenn Beck and The Blaze banished Taha for her being truthful and for her being an American Indian.

      This banishment is shocking and shames Beck and The Blaze.

    If I was the father, I wouldn’t be “clam”. I would be “calm” but incensed, provided I’d be stupid enough to travel under the current TSA gestapo conditions, which I’m not.

    I wouldn’t fly even if their was a 1 in 1000 chance of this happening to my kids. Not gona happen.

    I’d be driving or taking a train, so this scenario would never happen to me. In fact I already have with two trips to Colorado this year, so piss on the TSA, Janet, Obama and the Airlines. And George Bush who gave us this TSA gift.

      PAT, you ‘don’t get it’ because liberalism is all about hypocrisy and reasonable people have a hard time understanding hypocrisy- mostly because it is foreign to Conservatives who deal in truth and reality. How can they oppose the death penalty and support abortion? How do they support Anita Hill but say nothing about Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones, etc.?       There is a difference here in Az about 1070; the law is meant to do what the Fed’s are failing to do under their own laws!! What these TSA agent-molesters are doing is criminal offenses and are also being allowed under the directions of the same fed’s who will not enforce their own border laws.

      “Papers please” will soon be followed by “You cannot travel beyond such and such distances.” Dont think it can happen? We shall see.

      Um…not for nuthin’, PAT, but THAT former security allowed metal box cutters onto 4 different planes on the same day. And since none were found anywhere else on September 11, that means they were 4 for 4…100%.
      I’d call that an EPIC FAIL.

      Let’s see how we got here. Bush created the Patriot Act, Homeland Security and moved private airport security (which worked just fine) into the new agency – TSA. Obama and his Fascist and Racist “Comrades” have moved forward to get us accustomed to our future lives in The Un-United States of “North America”.
      I don’t think Mao, Hitler, Lenin, Mousillini, etc, had the stupidity to visit these indignities upon their peoples.
      Why aren’t the new Tea Party People on TV Day and night fighting against this? Let’s get rid of Napolitano,, her staff and the TSA leadership + ALL CZARS!
      Then close down the TSA and rid the nation of all Fed rules, regs, expectations, inspections, etc.

      GIVE US BACK OUR NATION THAT WE USED TO BE PROUD TO CALL “AMERICA”, NOT “AMERIKA”.

      I’ve really considered this TSA issue, and I have come to several conclusions, they are:

      1. Irregardless of the validity of these TSA abuses (some are some are not valid) we the people need to calm down, and use rational and well thought out arguments to combat a “police state”, if such a thing exists or is in the works. With so much hewe and cry over the TSA thugs, where are the attornies, that flock of “gulls” is usualy right on a green bleeding carcus are they not? But they are not, so ask youself why, perhaps because it is not what we are being led to believe it is.

      2. we the people should use the “power” behind our voices in the same way we did on 11/02/2010. We can do so by calling, emailing, writing our NEW house of representitives as to how we “want” them to handle this TSA (and Patriot Act) issue for us, ststeing that we will accept no other outcome than that which we have instructed you to carry out. That failure to deliver upon our desires shall result in a “tea Party house and congress and President in 2012 should be eneough to get the ”non” Tea Party republicans on board sweating retirement.

      3. and lastly (for those whom belive) pray.

      The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

      “and no warrents shall issue, but under probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation“ means ”you can’t search without a warrent.” You take these collective cases to the Supreme Court, and the TSA will be operating under a whole new set of rules. NO, it is NOT a right to be able to fly, just like driving. But unlike driving, where the officer has to have VERY GOOD probable cause to search you, the TSA only has to randomly pick you. That AIN’T probable cause, folks…that’s harrassment, and unconstitutional.

      @ Nightstalker.. I have to agree however it spans even further than you are reminding people.. it’s NOT just the TSA..the government has been allowed to creep in to everything from our businesses to our cars.. they tell business what they can and can‘t serve take for instance the oils used for deep friying how to list things on menu’s what you can and can‘t serve as well as what you can and can’t allow your customers to do.. they also tell us what kind of equipment MUST be on cars.. that we have to wear seat belts, we have to have insurance, plates and stickers.. than they started random auto checks on the pretext of looking for drunken drivers which has expanded to IF your wearing you seat belt, running your license to see if it’s valid, insurance cards, current plates, stickers, Unless you REEK of booze they don’t bother with checking you for drinking, nor do they even have to have a REASON for stopping you.. just like they DON’T need a reason for what they are doing at the airports.. and the stupid people who allow themselves to be led like sheep all in the name of MAYBE a child is going to blow up a plane are the ones to blame.. they have NO common sense and can‘t connect the dots between what they are doing in the airports to what they are doing in other area’s of their lives..
