Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan Summoned for Jury Duty

Not only was the newest Supreme Court associate justice summoned for jury duty, but many were shocked when Elena Kagen sat and waited to be picked with her fellow prospective jurors Thursday morning at D.C. Superior Court.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan Summoned for Jury Duty

ABC News reports:

Sporting dark trousers and a checkered patterned sweater jacket, she sat quietly, reading through what appeared to be a legal brief and making handwritten notes in the margin.

Kagan was eventually released Thursday afternoon.

She was seen chatting warmly with a handful of people who recognized her. Then, Kagan dropped her plastic badge in the trash can and left the courthouse without stopping to collect her $4 transportation stipend.

The U.S. Supreme Court will return to session to hear oral arguments at the end of February.

Of course the “wise Latina” has no bias and should be considered for jury duty!

I thought that militant socialist/marxist lesbians were absolved from jury duty?

This is what she needs. Maybe she’ll learn something about the court system.

I have more respect for her for doing this. Pretty cool. Don’t trust her with any Judicial decisions though.

I think this is a poor excuse to improve your opinion of her, she just want’s to learn about the justice system. If she could change her tire, would you think she is a mechanic?

Was she qualified? They relieved her.. I would have loved to see if any attorneys picked her, and if she would have been elected foreman by her peers.

When Kagen was being questioned at the congressional hearings about the 2nd amendment she said she disagreed with the ruling that it is an individual right. But because of that ruling she would have to abide by it. When the first case about the 2nd amendment and the individual rights came up she voted against it. She committed perjury and should be thrown off the bench.

Kagan will just be one of the “12 Angry Men” on the jury.

That’s not Elana K, it was her body double John Lovitz in a dress waiting patiently for Supreme E to use it’s divine supreme court powers and recluse itself from any matters that concern the USA.

Very funny. I like to think of her as just another one of the 12 Angry Men on that jury.

First and foremost, Ms. Kagan is a citizen of the United States, obviously a registered voter who has kept her address records current, and is showing proper respect to the rules of good citizenship. This is another good example of how easy it is to do the right thing, especially when noone is looking. This blogger just happened to be aware of his surroundings.

Maybe she will learn what a judge does in court since she has no experience of her own.

Setting my opinion aside as to whether or not she is qualified to do her job, this story has caused me to have much greater respect for Justice Kagan. She could have rightfully and very easily gotten out of jury duty without ever showing up. This report was filed by a blogger and not a reporter which tells you that she was trying to be discrete (no press pool), respectful and was just fulfilling her duty as a citizen. May God bless her and may God bless the United States of America.

Now maybe she will see what an actual court proceeding looks like instead of just writing about it. She has NO court room experience, only papers she has written. Hopefully she will make a good juror…

I wouldn’t trust her verdicts, good she is gone. Now, we just need to get term limits set for the Supreme Court, so people like her won’t be set for life.

A knowledge of the law is not required to be a juror.

Have to give her credit, she did not try to get out of it just for being on the Supreme Court; yet I have to wonder what it would be like serving on a jury where one fellow juror is a member of said court.

As she should, but Lawyers should never be allowed to be jurors or judges, their training makes them incapable of making the correct/moral/ethical decision about anything.
