Garett McNamara, a pro-surfer who holds the world record for largest wave ever surfed at 90 feet, is setting out to beat his own jaw-dropping feat and he thinks a new wetsuit will help.
But not just any wetsuit will do. Designed by Camelback — the company that makes those backpacks worn by runners that allow them to stay hydrated without breaking stride — McNamara’s new wetsuit, according to TMZ, would hold an oxygen-pouch to be used in the event that the surfer gets held underwater for a longer-than-normal period of time.
Watch McNamara’s recent record-breaking 90 foot ride:
If the wetsuit wearer were held under water by the wave, he or she would simply sip the oxygen from a straw until it let up. TMZ reports McNamara as saying this could give him a few extra, vital minutes underwater, specifically while he’s seeking out a 120-foot wave in Nazare, Portugal.
Related: Last year, we reported that fellow pro-surfer Shane Dorian also has a new wetsuit in the works, which the wearer inflates by pulling a string to lift them to the surface when they are trapped under water.

Just don’t pee in your wet suit, that wouldn’t be good.

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 8:19amIt’s interesting that TheBlaze would censor “*******”. The name originates from the drivers of mule pulled wagons cracking their whips above the heads of the mules to keep them pulling. The cracks could be heard from quite a distance and thus the term “crackers” was used. There is nothing derogatory about it. Just some hard working south Georgia boys trying to make a living and not mooching off the government’s teet.

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 6:05pmI’m sorry I thought the term represented white people. Didn’t some black guy say they wanted to “kill all the ******* babies?’”

Posted on January 30, 2012 at 11:35pmOk, back in the day, I used to surf, but on nice, normal-sized waves, so when I see this guy contemplating riding a 120 footer, all I can think of is “chum on a *******”……hope he lives…

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 4:17amUmm… strong lanuage warning for the above links for those who don’t like that sort of thing. The “Phil Goff” that Paul Henry mentions was, until recenty, the leader of the opposition. The other person that he mentions is a true and funny story, but too long to explain.

I posted the same link twice. The one that I meant to post and noted in the above comment is this one. It’s pretty funny.

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 8:41pmThe Blaze pulled my previous comment (and I can’t say that I blame them) so the remaining comments seem to come out of the blue with no relationship to anything else.
A note to readers that might be bemused, I was commenting on TXPILOT’s dissatisfaction with being censored for language by noting that NZ television censors are somewhat more relaxed on the subject.
I won’t repost the offending link as you get the idea.

Posted on January 31, 2012 at 9:24amyou could huh?…hmm. I have surfed up to 25′ when I was younger and that was an insane rush. This stuff takes a lot of skill and a copious amount of guts (possibly a pinch of insanity as well).
