Surprise! Rachel Maddow‘s Claim About Fox News Proven ’False’

This may not come as a shocker, but MSNBC host Rachel Maddow made a false claim about Fox News a couple months ago. So false, in fact, that one fact-check website just concluded “we couldn’t find a single case” of what she said being true. For someone who likes to hate Fox, that’s big.

You might remember that last December Maddow appeared on the “Late Show” with David Letterman. During that appearance, she said some nice things about Glenn Beck, but she also attacked Fox News. “I of course think that [MSNBC is] much more true than Fox is true,” she explained to Letterman, and as an example pointed out that Fox had reported “ dozens and dozens of times” that “the New Black Panther Party decided the election for Barack Obama.”

But did Fox really report that? “No,” says the the fact-check group PolitiFact.

“Acting on a PolitiFact reader’s suggestion,” the site explains, “we fact-checked Maddow’s statement that Fox News ‘said the New Black Panther Party decided the election for Barack Obama.’”

Here’s its conclusion:

The transcripts we looked at showed that there was indeed lots of coverage on Fox. However, the discussions focused on the legal side of the story and whether other media outlets were derelict in not giving it enough attention.

In all the coverage we examined, we couldn’t find a single case in which the discussion revolved around the political impact of the incident, including whether the New Black Panther Party had helped put the Obama campaign over the top in 2008. So we rated the statement False. [Emphasis added]

“I of course think that [MSNBC is] much more true than Fox is true,” Maddow told Letterman, after explaining that MSNBC has never had “that guy” who made up stories and reported them as fact.

We’ll just leave it at that.

    It probably is the “truth” in the circles in which she runs. She is lazy, like most reporters; therefore, she neve fact checks her own beliefs and just reports her “Upper West Side truth” as fact.

    I agree that Rachael’s comment is incorrect, but accepting Politifacts research is a double edged sword. They declared that Obamacare is a government takeover: False. They declared that the claim of “death panels:” False.

      sigh…no believing that reform bill is a government takeover without having evidence given by a source is believing propoganda. Do your really not understand how a proposition, logic and understanding works? Question: what is the minimum requirement for a website to be a reliable source and not propoganda? Is wikipedia a reliable source? How about Utube? My point is that if there is evidence that is credible, than i would believe it before someone calling it “12imamcare.”

      There are no actual death panels in either the current healthcare system or in the reform bills from congress, unless you feel that the courts issuing death sentences to both innocent and guilty people counts.

      The college class I was in had this very nice kind hearted women. She told us how good Obama care was, She described it as wonderful for everyone. I asked her would the there be enough medical supplies, doctors, nurses, and enough space hospitals, etc. she said to me “we didn’t figure that part out yet”

    Rachel Maddow is blinded by her ideology. She cannot resist speaking out when it would be better to remain silent. As is illustrated in this case, the result is that her credibility suffers – what she sees as “true” is not.

    Since this story is using Politifact as a source, it’s interesting to compare Mr. Beck’s record with Maddows. Neither are perfect. Adding up the “true” category, from true to barely true, then dividing by the total shows Maddow true 70% of the time vs. Mr. Beck’s 55%. It is somewhat ironic this site is dinging Maddow for not checking all her facts.

      GayDem times have changed,there was a time you could pretty much trust any net work to report the news honestly,things were checked and triple checked before it was aired, any more most of them seem to go for ratings regardless if the story is fiction or fact,i think CNNN can be saved but i have no hope for MSNBC

      Me too Grandma, I always thought that Rachael was a very credible source……..lol. Maddow is one of the craziest people left at MSNBC, and that’s actually quite an accomplishment in itself. I was especially disturbed by her mocking of Beck over his reporting on the Muslim Brotherhood recently.

      With the crew of MSNBC making claims that turn out to be unsubstantiated, that would not be much of a suprise at any time. While all of them may not be supporting the Obama agenda, I still can see the chiefs of the company putting their feet to the flames to tow the line when anything can be done to advance the progressive agendas of their own and the administrations.

      Did I miss the comedy in that late night “comedy” show? EVERYTHING is about politics and where you stand in the arena.

      Here is a thought, when you have a group of people that call themselves….lets say, Republicans, and they have a very firm belief in their positions and can back their beliefs up with facts to verify,right or wrong that IS their belief and if you don’t agree, YOU are WRONG. Then you have another group of people…..lets call them Democrats, who have there own beliefs that they believe in just as strongly as the Republicans and can back their beliefs with facts to verify their beliefs as well. If you disagree with them YOU are WRONG. Either group can produce SOLID evidence that their positions and beliefs are correct which proves EACH is wright and the other is WRONG! Everything today is SPIN. Is that glass of water half empty or half full? IT IS BOTH!! Both statements are correct and factual, but one statement can be spun positive, “we are half way there, keep going guys we can get it full”. OR negative “we are now half empty and if things don’t change soon we will run out.” Both sides are correct and accurate?

      Neither side wants to give ANY credibility to the other because the struggle for dominance is SO tight that any power or credibility given to the other side could lead to the belief that if they were wrong on that, maybe they are wrong on a lot more? And so it goes. So WHAT do we do????

      One of the many things that recently made me want to throw in the towel was when an elected government official said on camera in an interview ” we all say what we need to say to get elected, BUT once elected, we have to govern.” and NO ONE said ANYTHING about a statement like that!!! What the HE**!!

      Maybe, just maybe, it is time to get away from D or R and get back to right or wrong, get back to what the majority want? I guess me personally, I want someone (R,D,I,L,Red,Blue,Green,Purple,Yellow, I don’t CARE) to stand up and say these are MY beliefs and this is MY proposal to you the American people, and mean what they say and do what they promise. If my values are like yours and my proposal sounds like the plan of action you think we need to take then vote for me and I WILL proceed with the action plan I have submitted to you for your approval.

      When asked if he or she was Republican or Democrat or whatever, their answer would be “I AM ME” here are MY beliefs and this is MY plan for the future of America! The D’s have some good ideas, the R’s have some good ides, the I’s have some good ideas and so on, and believe it or not I actually have some good ideas of my own.

      I understand the concept is that the back and forth keeps us in the middle.(in theory) But no matter who you are, at some point you get tired of arguing your side,( who has time for it, I’m to busy trying to support my family) then you disconnect from the whole thing and whatever happens, happens, it will take care of itself, I don’t need to worry about it. I am SO tired of the arguing, the spin, the LIES, the my dad is tougher than your dad, the you’re so stupid CRAP!

      I am at the point of disconnect but realize that if to many from either side disconnect at the same time, the “balance” will be thrown off. Almost like a game of “chicken” who slips first? Then the “other side runs wild with their ideas uncontested.

      We all have our individual ideas and beliefs, but deep down, I think we are all VERY similar. I believe the MAJORITY of people want the same things. If we are such intelligent people, why cant we seem to come together and accomplish what MOST of us truly want?

      Could it be the D‘s and the R’s? Just a thought.

      Yeah, Maddow, we all watch Fox because we liked to be lied to and are too stupid to tell the difference. Maddow, I hate to break it to you but you’re pseudo-intellectual, everybody know its and most of your audience are those who want to see what stupid thing you’re going to say next.

      I’m with you on this, it’s not a shocker to me, and also reinforces that fact that MSNBC is dead last as far as their ratings go. Also is why FOX news is kicking everybody’s butt in ratings. Americans want to watch honest news reporting, and it angers me to see that the mainstream media ( MSNBC,CNN, ETC ) can’t give us Americans ( We The People ) credit for having a brain and making up our own minds on what is true or not true. I just hope someday the mainstream media will pull their heads out of their asses and start paying attention to what’s going on in the real world.

      Washington’s plugged the **** with $’s for as long as I can remember, they‘re becoming drenched so quickly now that the presses can’t print them fast enough (Qe2 anyone) so now even the common people can recognize what’s flooding our nation. God willing, that means that America will stay awake and unlike when Katrina hit, the Congress not only will have an Emergency plan in place, but that they are working on implementing it as we read. May God have mercy on us. We’ve believed the lies too long, because the truth wasn’t nearly as fun, nor easy to go along with. Any nation which would endure, must first be governed with self control, honesty, integrity, hard work, a caring for your neighbor, regardless of skin color, personal beliefs, or gender (With all it’s extreme rhetoric God calls on us to show love as he shows love and forgiveness for {our own} sins and shortcomings.) Most of all equal justice regardless of rank, prestige, lack of the same, or ability to pay our way out of any given situation. We must have a true rule of law, or the lawless will destroy us.
      With the above, we can rebuild the **** of Truth, and integrity which made this nation great. (Founded by those primarily who came here for freedom to worship their God in their own way, but sat the stage that no one could be put to death for not doing so.

      don’t you think that people still have delusions of grandeur? that a pig and a liar can still have access to the air waves? After all of the revelations we have seen of past ‘icons’ of proclaimed ‘journalistic integrity’? Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Barbara Walters, Walter Cronkite, Chris Mathews et al all being outed in one way or another as socialist provocateurs? Why would Rachel Maddow be any different?

      IMHBLO it takes time before trust can be earned in a personal relationship, it takes even longer for a news personality to earn my trust. O‘Reilly has lost some of my trust as he attempts to mince words for Fox’s new majority stock holder. Beck on the other hand has my highest level of trust (for a TV news personality). Because he doesn‘t ’interpret‘ or ’opinionize’ (is that a word?) his show. He uses their own words and actions. And you can only conclude truth from those.
