Survey: 92% of Young Afghan Men Don’t Know Anything About 9/11

Majority of Young Men in Afghanistan Dont Know About 9/11

An astonishing survey reported today by the Wall Street Journal claims that 92% of 15 to 30-year-old men didn’t know about “this event which the foreigners call 9/11″ after being read a three-paragraph description of the attacks.

A think tank called the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) carried out the survey of 1,000 Afghan men in eight districts of Kandahar and Helmand, the two southern provinces where President Barack Obama sent the bulk of American surge troops.

Norine MacDonald, President of ICOS, said that this lack of awareness among fighting-age Afghan males has created:

“a vacuum—and it’s being filled by al Qaeda and Taliban propaganda claiming that we are here to destroy Islam.”

Of the eight percent of Afghans who were familiar with the 9/11 attacks, many of them could be believers in the conspiracy theories abound in the Middle East.

As an example, the Daily Mail cited a quote from Maulvi Abdulaziz Mujahed, a religious leader who served as chairman of the Kabul provincial council in 2008 to 2009 who recently explained in an interview his belief that 9/11 was a Jewish conspiracy and a fabricated pretext for invasion:

“I saw the photos of all those who have been killed in the attacks, and I saw people bring flowers for their loved ones. But I couldn’t find a single Jew among them. The superpowers wanted a good pretext to invade Afghanistan, and these attacks provided it.”

Majority of Young Men in Afghanistan Dont Know About 9/11The survey appears to repudiate any notion that Afghan public opinion in the ethnic Pashtun-dominated south and east is broadly supportive of the U.S. military presence there.

The WSJ noted that university students in Kabul, for example, believe the Coalition has dramatically improved the country and they do not want the Taliban in power under any circumstances.

While the rest of the country is likely more supportive of the Coalition,  the south and east provide the majority of Taliban recruits, and have been the focus of U.S. military efforts during the Obama administration’s tenure.

Abdul Hakim Mujahid, the deputy chairman of the Afghan government’s High Peace Council, told the Journal that the tide of public opinion has turned, and many Afghans have ceased to believe the Coalition can turn things around.

“Expectations have come down, and now have reached the point of zero. The people are asking: When will the foreigners finally leave?”

Judging by many recent polls gauging support for the war in America, it is clear many of us are asking the same question.

These people are poisoned against the U.S. from cradle to grave. They would not believe it if we did tell them. They dont care. Most of these people dont even have running water. They dont want democracy. They want to be left alone no matter how bad the Taliban is. They like Sharia. They like being in the dark. They like being uneducated. I know that is hard for many people to understand but it is true.

These folks are a product of their environemnt, and indictive of what islam creates. This is not some anti-American decision they made. They grow up in a country where most do not read. After the Mujahideen (pre taliban) defeated the Russians, they ruled via sharia law. The executed teachers, and professionals. Those that were not executed escaped to places like Pakistan.

You then had a religious class rulling over an uneducated group. They use Islam to keep people slaves and keep them ignorant and in line.

By the Grace of God, you were born in America, and not in some place like Afghanistan.

Keeping the masses ignorant is nothing new. The catholic church did it for many years in Europe. The democratic party/libs/progressives/athiests are doing it now. Thus the reason they demand to keep the public schools in the grips of the federal gov. We know for fact that prior to Jimmy Carter putting the public school in the hands of the federl gov, that we were one of the top nations in math and science. The libs know that they will not get a total take over, unless they dumb down America.

Go ask someone in their 20s who put pen to paper and wrote our constitution, and see if they can name Madison. Ask them to name four of the ten ammendments, and see what they say. Ask them about modern pop culture, MTV, American Idol, College and Pro Sprots….. and they can go on and on. How do you think we ended up with a President named Barack Hussein Obama? How do you

You are right they are poisoned against us from the cradle. But you are wrong about everything else, look at the Afghan history; starting with the beginning of the current war and going back. At the beginning of this war it was the CIA, special forces, and the Northern Alliance Forces(an Afghan force) that fought and cornered the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Tora Bora. Is this the actions of people that want to remain oppressed under the Taliban? Then go further back and you will see that the Afghan nation was a rapidly developing country in the 70‘s and 80’s with major strides in agriculture, infrastructure, education, and government. There was during this period a growing modernization of culture and thought in the country. That ended after the communist party took control of the government and began to fail so the Soviets invaded and the country fell into a war that started in 79 and is basically still ongoing.

The fact that afghans are ignorant and backwards doesn’t make them evil-and it doesn’t give you a right to kill them.if they have backward penal codes it is unfortunate for them but that too does not give us a right to kill them. But they have had democracy-their tribal councils were their judicial system and that is a primitive yet democratic system. the taliban was a result of lawlessness that came about after the soviet invasion.

Jews are not the problem. Look at history. When Muhammad made up Islam in Arabia in the 7th century, there were Jewish tribes there, and there were Christians. Muhammad killed the Jewish tribes, cut off the heads of the men, took the women for sex and slavery, along with the children. The Koran contains more anti-Semitic hate speech than Mein Kampf! So it isn’t some sort of tit for tat Jews and Muslims fighting, Muhammad did what Hitler failed to do, there are no Jews in Arabia. Look at Afghanistan, there were other religions there at one time before Islam arrived. Every single place Islam is, other religions, mainly Christian, Jew, Hindu, were there for centuries before. Islam is the aggressor, it will accomplish the same thing in America if allowed to spread here. All non-Muslims must join together to fight Islam.

“coexisted” ROSE-ELLEN? You mean like Christians and Jews being made to wear patches on their clothing of apes or pigs (or colored belts to denote non-muslims) to seperate them from Muslims in Cordova, Spain? Or the Ottomans in Turkey who did not allow the Greek language to be taught in Greece in order to effectively kill off Greek culture and supplant it with Muslim culture. Only the main church in Constantinople was allowed to teach the language forcing the Orthodox Church in Greece to hold secret schools to keep the language alive among the Greek people. The muslim turks also took young Greek boys from their homes at an early age to train for the Ottoman armies. Yes ROSE-ELLEN wonderful coexistence before how did you put it?…ah yes…“western colonialists divied up the land and favored the Christians and the Zionists”. The Hadith (one of Islam’s three holy books) explicitly calls for the killing of every Jew before God reclaims the World. Yes ROSE-ELLEN..that’s some coexistence. You know what your problem is ROSE-ELLEN? You just say stuff as long as it works for your deluded mind. It doesn’t have to be true or accurate..just as long as you believe it and think no one else is educated enough to call your bluff. You’re quite repulsive.

Afghanistan did not have a government except in name only. They had tribes and they are backward. that we went there dropping bombs on these illiterate backward people exposes our moral bandruptcy. the taliban formed after the wars against the soviet invadoers which left these tibes berift of their lawful councils [so many men died in these anti soviet wars]. The taliban defended the people against lawless thugs. They are not anti -education. Bin laden went there to help defend the afghans against the soviets and the taliban rightfully welcomed him.Bin laden turned against the americans after the iraq war which left many defenseless civilians dead and after the sanctions which we knew would result in more civilian deaths. he was anti saddam and he was anti dictatorship-whether american backed or not. he died believing in his heart of hearts that he did not start this war and he did not. he was a freedom fighter for his people. And the arab uprisings against all these dictators many who we backed confirm this;he supported their uprising.History is written by the victors and yes he was a mass murderer but he knew we are too whether directly or by proxy.he brought us to the knowledge that there could be consequences for us for our policies toward them. @RoseEllen

Your facts are twisted. Afghanistans problems didn’t start with our interference or even Russian intervention. It started with the Afgan people themselfves killing each other and trying to over throw the Democratic Republic Party of Afghanistan. A search for the Saur Revolution and its causes will back me up on this. The DRPA was a liberal Marxist/Socialists Government friendly with the Soviet Union. This relationship started after the Russian Revolution. Russia went in to help bolster the DRPA.
The US interfered in what we saw as Soviet expansion, of which we were determined to prevent during the Cold War. If it wasn’t for our intervention by supporting the tribes and the Taliban, Afghanistan would have been a Soviet satellite nation. We were helping Afghanistan to be a free nation, just as we are trying to do today. The US/Afghan war is not all for our benefit, but also for Afghanistan and the whole region. But the IslamoNuts are too braindead to understand what freedom is. Do you think that kooky Sharia Law is freedom? Do you want to live under Sharia Law RoseEllen ? I would really like for you to answer that question for me. Do you personally want to live under Sharia Law? If so, what are the benefits for you? Again ROSE-ELLEN…you’re just saying “stuff” hoping no one knows better. The Taliban did not form AFTER the Soviet invasion to fill any kind of governmental void. They formed DURING the Soviet occupation as part of the mujahideen against the Soviets. The Taliban then proceeded to kill or expell all the educated class, doctors, lawyers etc to have nothing but the books of Islam taught to an already under-educated population and to eradicate anyone that could rally the people against them. They imposed their Sharia compliant version of Islam on the country. Women were no longer permitted to get an education. Buddhist shrines destroyed..etc.

Just like the constituion can be interpreted any way we like, so too sharia law can interpret the koran any way the people like. No -i am not a fundamentalist muslim and don’t want to be forced to cover myself, or have barbaric penal codes. i don’t believe all muslims and all muslim nations do either. right now many muslim nations have been under brutal western backed dictatorships-so your concern about human rights regarding sharia is bogus. The afghans did not ask us to invade them after the soviets left and to call invasion and occupation of people liberation is again a cynical justifiction to kill people who by the way had nothing to do with 9-11 and are too backwards to even have heard of it. When revenge is your motive -then ethics goes out the window-like it has here and in iraq.Using the word freedom as you drop bombs on men women and children does not exonerate you from murder any more then a muslim using the word God exonerates them. And they are genuinely convinced that they are freedom fighters wanting to liberate their homelands from our unjust invasions and prior our unjust meddling via dictators for our oil, and military bases and cold war interests. They have more legitimacy then we do because we have been meddling in the homelands. alquada is no nation state but an organization that committed a crime..What is freedom?if people believe they are free-they are free. the minute they believe they are not ,then they are not.

yes because ROSE-ELLEN would have us all believe that before any westerner showed his face in the middle east, it was a veritable land of milk and honey and tolerance rather than monarchies, political monopolies, theocracies and dicatorships. The Taliban is indeed “anti-education” ROSE-ELLEN and if you ever picked up a history book you’d know it. When the Taliban siezed power, they killed or expelled all the educated class from Afghanistan, doctors, lawyers, professors..etc. Only the holy books of Islam were to be taught. Women were no longer allowed to get a formal education and learn to read. Aghanistan became a rigid theocracy. Buddhist shrines destroyed. Zero tolerance for anything not of Islam. But in ROSE-ELLEN’s parallel universe..”the Taliban were not anti-education”.

My son reciently registered for the draft and just received his draft card. I have great reservations about him fighting under our present Commander-in-Chief. As long as the politicians are idiots who permit our children to be used as pawns and fodder for their political wars I can’t encourage my son to be a part of it. In the end it’s his choice though. I can think of other alternatives for the defense of our country. Enough said.

Selective Service is not a bad thing. My son volunteered and is now serving in the Air Force. I hate the fact that barack is my son’s boss. He is not fit to call boots into battle. With the way things are going, I really don’t think you have any worries about your son being drafted. There just too many volunteers.

Likely because you called it a draft card.

Obama will never call for a draft. His constituents would turn on him faster than they already are. The only way your son will see action is if he signs up himself… or if another terrorist attack happens.

      @Captain

Sorry if it came off that way; my father was drafted in ‘Nam, and his father and uncles in WWII, and I thank God we don’t have the draft any more. As for who wants to fight for Obama? People all have different reasons to do so; most, I would imagine, fight for their country, friends and family. Even during the huge jump in recruits after 9/11, it wasn’t people fighting for Bush, it was for America.

As said, the draft won’t come back. Not with this president at least; he knows it would be the one thing he can’t “hope and change” his way out of.

No offense taken. I know what you’re saying. If one of my children ended up dieing in war for this country I would not feel his life was wasted. Our freedoms and way of life is worth whatever sacrifices it takes to preserve it. Obama is the problem. Even an idiot can heed the advice of his generals. I don’t trust him to do even that. I can see him screwing up so badly that it would cost us a great price in many different ways. I just don’t want my son or your sons to be casualities of his stupidity.

Myth: Most Vietnam veterans were drafted.

2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers. 2/3 of the men who served in World War II were drafted. Approximately 70% of those killed were volunteers. [McCaffrey] Many men volunteered for the draft so even some of the draftees were actually volunteers.

87% of the American people hold Vietnam Vets in high esteem.

91% of Vietnam Veterans say they are glad they served.

74% said they would serve again even knowing the outcome.

It was the media and DEMs that screwed with the draft will change their minds. The draft was needed for WWII…not needed for VN, Iraq, AFG, Libya and Somalia…OMG Obama is moving out in 4 nations now…prob more than we will ever know under Obama.

      Some info for SamIAm2:
I agree 100% with ALL your points, I was just making a different point.

      I am a VietNam Veteran 1972-1975, a volunteer.
I enlisted in 1971, just before the “lottery draft” ended.
I served alongside many drafted men as well as lifers and just regular guys like me (I did 9 and got out with three honorable discharges).
I remember the years and years of riots, demonstrations and civilian outroar that caused the war to be ended by Nixon before we could “win it.”
I think the anti-war movement was based on the fact of the draft, which made everyone a stakeholder in wars.
Today it’s different, less than 1 percent of the country is involved in Military issues, let alone service.
The average American has other things to think about, than “how many of our finest are in harms way, and for what.”
It has never ever been easier for a bunch old wealthy chicken hawks and neo cons to send our best out to die to attain their interests (good or evil). Since 9/11 more than 5,000 have been killed and 30,000 are severly wounded warriors that would have died in the VietNam era).

My point is, not that the volunteers are at fault; but that they are invisible to the AVERAGE citizen who is focused on hanging on to a job. This lets politicians send our Military to endless war.

Not much different the the mindset [we are told] those muslims have when they murder. [at least those muslims really are victimized by our invasions and proxy dictators or israeli occupation].Oh and you americans who like to bully those afghans and iraqis-you wern’t bullying any one when you were falling out of windows. if that’s the only time you stop bullying people well you never know what the future has in store for a nation that takes pride in bullying civilians.

Of course they wouldn’t know….why would they?! And what’s wrong with destroying Islam? I’d be for that, but afraid that can’t be done.,,in fact, it’ll be around until the “end” causing untold destruction & the only One able to zap them totally is Jesus. But I digress……….my opinion is it was wrong to go there and also to stay in Iraq – so of course I’m for bringing troops back…..all – not leaving any. It’s unwinable in Muslim countries. We need them here!
The mantra/reason that Bush Admin. gave to stay there is so we could fight them there and not have to here. That was very naive, ignorant, erroneous What they & so many now don’t want to admit or see is that they were ALREADY HERE. They have infiltrated our society and inserted themselves into political positions, schools, everything. They’re backed by the Muslim Brotherhood and are waiting until they get enough to get their Sharia laws passed and eventually take us over for Allah (check out Dearborn, MI and Detroit, etc.) But I don’t know what the solution is in our “free society” – unless you can prove sedition and then you’d still have them around plotting and planning their evil deeds. We need Divine intervention. Pray on!!! Site: http://www.actforamerica.com

Not a surprise. How many kids here in this country really know about 9/11? Elementary public schools won’t even discuss it as part of their curriculum because it might offend someone.

Then again, the Afghans haven’t even evolved to Stone Age standards so what do you expect?

“Not a surprise. How many kids here in this country really know about 9/11? Elementary public schools won’t even discuss it as part of their curriculum because it might offend someone.”

As the survey in question opined 15-30 year olds, I think your “elementary public school” remark is a bit off.

I think a good analogy would be something like “How many US 15-30 year old know about the Islamic Revolution of Iran.” I‘m guessing it’s not many, but it was a key step in the destabilization and anti-west sentiment in the Middle East, similar to 9/11. Or perhaps more analogously would be the Saur Revolution which led to the Soviets invading Afghanistan.

There’s a lot of information young US males are missing about foreign relations. I think the more telling survey would be “How many US males 15-30 years old can pick out Afghanistan on a map?” (A National Geographic survey from 2006 found that 63% of 18-24 year old can’t identify Iraq).

It’s not for us to impose our culture on them or to deprive them of theirs. even backwards stone age people have the right to exist. We have our own problems and are no more moral then they are.And i was there in the 70′s just prior to the soviet invasion. there was hardly any food in the freezing winter and no medicine[i got an infection and was told at their hospital that no supplies had arrived from the USSR yet so they could not treat me]. the people were so poor it was like going back into the old testament bible times.thoug they had beautifully colored clothes. in the summer there was lot of fresh frits .Water seemed scarce as we had to shares glasses in the reataurants. oh and i never had to pay for a thing- as a foreigner i was treated with the utmost hospitality accorded a stranger. They had no animosity toward me for being an american -i traveled with other westerners.Being female in western garb aws tolerated .Women there were covered in burquas-very very bizarr to behold but this was before the taliban. hence the burqua is a cultural thing-not a taliban thing. That you all want to kill these backward people who gave me tea, free lodging and food when they had it- shows how crass and ugly you americans for all your might are!.shame on you-and especially you who claim to follow Jesus Christ! unbelievable!
