Survey: France More Anti-Capitalist Than Communist China?

According to a new survey published Wednesday in La Croix newspaper, 33 percent of French citizens believe it’s time to abandon the capitalist system — a proportion higher than any of the other 10 countries surveyed, including Communist China.
Reuters reports:
In China, which is ruled by the Communist Party but has embraced its own brand of capitalism, just 3 percent of those questioned thought that the market system was working badly. China posted economic growth of more than 10 percent last year.
Some 65 percent of the Chinese surveyed said the current system was working well and should not be changed, the highest percentage in the poll, followed by Australia with 63 percent, Brazil with 57 and the United States with 55 percent.
The survey, conducted between Dec. 8 and 23 from some 600 respondents in each country, also showed that the Chinese were the most convinced that wider international trade was in their interest, with 90 percent answering “yes”.
The United States was the most negative about the impact of expanding international trade on their economy, with just 39 percent of those surveyed in favour of it.
According to another poll released earlier this month, the French were more negative about their country’s economic prospects than even Afghanistan and Iraq.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 9:32pmWas stationed in France in the early 60′s…Worked in Iingrandes, the birthplace of Rene Descartes, and lived in Chatellerault…French hated us…When I paid my monthly rent I had to endure an endless tirade of anti Americanism from my Landlord; one M’seiur Milon…He would invite me in, sit a liter of wine on his kitchen table, pour a couple of glasses and begin castigating me for the evils of America. For us being in Vietnam, for Lyndon Johnson, for the American way of life, and anything else he could think of. I reminded him that the French were kicked out of Vietnam at Dien Bien Phu, and told him that I wasn’t overly fond of Charles DeGaulle either, and usually gave as good as I got, but of course I couldn’t ever win…I lived in his house….Couldn’t go out on Mayday…That was communist rampage day….Other than being considered an untermensch, and treated accordingly, I guess it was okay….

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 10:04pmI spent some time there in the 90’s asked a young French woman I’d met through family why the French hated Americans so much.
Report Post »Her answer
French at one time lead the world in banking, at least linguistically, fashion and wine. America has outperformed the French in everything they held dear.
National jealousy is what it’s all about.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 8:10pmFrance is probably the only country that can get away with such a poor work ethic- it just has so much of everything. I live there from May to October and love it…but I certainly wouldn’t want to have a business there- and that’s the way most of the French feel about their country.
Report Post »BTW: In polls, their President is even less popular than capitalism. Don’t worry about America becoming more like France…Sarkosy wishes France could be more like America.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:51pmI thought Sarcozy was so pro-American(!), I guess that just meant his wife would divorce him because he was having an affair. As for the French people, do they even work? I thought the unions had them laying around, drinking wine, napping and barely working. If they go with the Chinese, they may actually have to work. I think they had better reconsider…..

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:24pmI read an article a few weeks ago highlighting Central Europe and their entitlement woes. France’s citizenry is bound to cause their implosion soon the way the protesters are pressuring their gutless government. The way their “ecomony” has been assaulted by the communists, there is no wealth left to be distributed according to the report. They‘re already gone and don’t know it yet.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:03pmIf anyone thinks that Obama is going to center, will also believe that the sky is falling all around us. There is no way that Obama is going to the center anymore than I am going to vote for a Democrat. He is only trying to make everyone think he is so that he can get their votes. Like the old saying a leopard can’t change its spots.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 6:47pmWho needs capitalism when you have Socialism? Nanny government? If a French citizen is out of work for 18 months he automatically becomes a ward of the state.
Report Post »Snowleopard {gallery of cat folks}
Posted on January 26, 2011 at 6:51pmThe only difference between a nanny state and a prison is that the prisoner is obviously behind bars and enjoys few rights and privlidges other than what the state grants them. The citizens of the said nanny state enjoy the same as the prisoner while having the ILLUSION of being free when they are just as badly off as the incarcerated prisoners.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 6:46pmAt least now we know why Mr Obama has been making words with France lately to have them be the best buddies and friends of America over the long friendship we have with Britian. The people of France are regarding capitalism as a dead subject, and so Obama wants to tie us to them…to have a history of failure and disasters on the same magnitude and ineptness.
So once again the wheels of history turn, and land on the same tired old story of nation collapsing in on itself.
At least one question has been answered.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 6:57pmI’m sure of that, spent a lot of time in France and the producers are discouraged by high taxes. There is no incentive to work hard because then you are taxed to death. China on the other hand has less regulation and probably less taxes, they encourage people to work hard a produce. Communist or not China is as or more productive that anyone. Fight back and BUY AMERICAN.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:15pmI hope those of us citizens of America still have enough time to awaken completely, and to save this country from repeating the mistakes others have made. Mistakes we have made, big and small in the history of the nation yes, yet we need to learn from them and move on so they are not repeated, and learn at the same time from others.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:50pmStill love the food, wine and the women of France, but their socialism is very depressing, on many levels. It was a nice place to visit before when the currency exchange rate was in our favor in the 80s and 90s, but now things are very expensive for us.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 9:36pmIf you’ve ever been to both France and China, the difference is quite apparent. The French hate any businesses bigger than a neighborhood store, but everywhere you go in China, there’s someone trying to make a buck.
I once caught a taxi ride from an illegal cab in Beijing. Had his wife and baby in the backseat. Utter capitalist, right? Hustling people for fares at less than the mandated rates for taxis, and risking jail time to do so. Halfway back to my hotel, he asks me if I’ve heard of Mao, and tries to offer me a copy of the Little Red Book. Absolutely hilarious, and emblematic of China in a nutshell.
