Which Sweat-Drenched Congressman Showed Up at ‘Day of Service’?

Rep. Louie Gohmert Builds a Better Future at Restoring Love in Dallas

Exclusive Live & On Demand Coverage of Restoring Love Available Now on GBTV Plus — Click for Details.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) rolled up his sleeves Friday to help with “Restoring Love,” paying no attention to the sweltering Dallas heat.

“Glenn made a wonderful call…you can’t come together and talk about restoring love in America without talking about, as a servant, helping our friends. This is an area of Dallas that needs help,” Gohmert said.

Watch the entire interview, featuring a lot of manual labor, below:

“You see so many people and it’s just so crazy…there’s no other way to explain it, it’s just a blessing,” Blaze contributor Lisa Paige remarked.

After explaining his role in government, Gohmert concluded: “As individuals, the government’s supposed to keep us safe so that we can go about loving our brother, being meek, being peacemakers…Two different roles, and I really kind of enjoy this role better.”

The Blaze’s Benny Johnson contributed to this report.

We need to elect people that will keep their oath of office and uphold the Constitution. While I like to see a congressman actually work to help others, for me his unconstitutional votes for NDAA etc. put him on the wrong side from the Constitution. The Constitution was written to limit the power of government. We must stop playing the two party game which side wants more power for government for their sides projects. We created this government to secure our rights, we have allowed it to grow into an overbearing monster from whom we must get permission to catch a fish. We must get back to where we tell them what they can or can not do. They were never supposed to tell us what we can or can not do.

Every time Glenn puts on one of these events, first the media declares them an un-event, and refuses to report on them. Regardless of the millions that attend.
Then the left will stage their own version somewhere, with bus loads of paid attendees of with complete coverage a great media event.

Eventually someone in Congress will call to investigate how Glenn’s event is racist, and everyone is speaking in code, or dog-whistle, their latest way to explain their unexplainable position.

Glenn Beck is a visionary we can all respect and support. Glenn knows the best of us comes out when we serve others and not selfish causes. Gohmert is a powerful example of walking the talk. Too bad there are not 535 of him in the congress of the United States. Maybe we can move towards this goal if we pay more attention to electing better people.

So, in a world where everyone is so cruel to one another, you see a man step out of his normal role to join others in doing charitable work…

…and you hate him for it?

By your logic, we should all just ignore each other and let one another die. What a beautiful world you will build if left unchecked, I’m sure.

Go occupy something and let the adults talk…

I saw your user name and got all excited for a moment — thought you might be a true patriot and a civilized human being, might have something interesting to say. Then I noticed what you chose to symbolize yourself, your views, and I lowered my expectations a bit, but not enough. Was that “playing to the lowest of the low” remark the best you’ve got? I doubt you‘ve ever done much hard work or you’d know that NOBODY, least of all a politician, works that hard and sweats that much just for a photo op, or to “play to the lowest of the low.“ I find nothing ”low” about Beck, so I’d be interested in what you find “low” about him. You may disagree with him, but that doesn’t make him wrong or “low” and it doesn’t make you right, although it may make you LEFT. Your trivializing Beck and the volunteer work that Louie did for him is ignorant and juvenile. It also is a clear indication that you have no idea of how much effort that kind of work takes, or why Louie’s help and that of the other volunteers was so appreciated. It’s ironic that you criticize and reject Beck and his Restoring Love program when you need it so much.

Generally the folks surrounding this event are remarkable people doing remarkable things. This congressman obviously has some good qualities too, but his voting record on civil liberties is bad. We can’t forget that every time we hear about the TSA abusing us, he was as responsible for that. We can’t give him a pass on those actions because he did something wonderful one day while the cameras were rolling. He has to be removed from office if he refuses to aknowlege his errors and doesn’t work to correct them.

I always appreciated how we volunteered in the military. We Army dogs were always out in the woods anyway so “beautifying our barracks” took a lot of volunteer work.

      Went like this:

“I need a couple of volunteers. You and you.”
The next several hours would be hunting down rare trees avoiding ticks and chiggars. We did a lot more than just that though in service of others.

Memories I have of my military days before the crazy times there are now are ones I have kept close and practice frequently.

Most of us take our oaths far more seriously than politicians and are deeply patriotic.

Not a marine vet but I salute you other vets as former Army, anyway.

I’ve never seen anything anywhere describing your accusations. I guess like your idol Obama you also have to make stuff up. Possibly if you were to show up and help make your community better you wouldn’t have to lash out at others who sacrifice volutarily. Or, your waiting on Government to mandate it so you won’t be the laughing stock of your lib friends. Maybe you should find new friends and experience the joy of helping others. But you would see that as being backwards and extreme. As I type this it’s about 105F outside (yeah, I’m in Texas) and these volunteers aren‘t laboring because it’s the healthy thing to do.
