Swedish Man Peter Skyllberg Survives Being Trapped in Snow Covered Car for Two Months!

A Swedish man who survived being trapped in a snow-covered car for two months has been rescued and is recovering in the hospital, the Telegraph reported.

Peter Skyllberg, 44, was found in his car Friday off a snow-filled forest road in northern Sweden. He was discovered by passersby on snowmobiles who at first thought the car was a wreck, the BBC reported. When they dug their way to a window they saw movement inside.

Skyllberg said he’d been inside the car since Dec. 19 and survived by drinking only a little snow. It was not immediately clear how he became trapped.

“He was in a very poor state. Poor condition. He said he’d been there for a long time and had survived on a little snow,” policeman Ebbe Nyberg told the BBC. “He said himself he hadn’t eaten anything since December.”

Temperatures outside had been below -22 degrees, the Telegraph reported. One doctor said the air trapped around the car had likely formed a kind of igloo.

“In the car he had very warm clothes, he had a warm sleeping bag, and as the car was snowed under, that would have made it more like an igloo. Down below the snow, you would normally have a temperature of around zero,” Dr. Ulf Segerberg of Norrland’s University Hospital in Sweden said.

He added that it’s not unheard of for someone to survive for so long without starving to death.

“Starvation for one month, anyone can tolerate that if they have water to drink,” Segerberg said. “If you have body fat, you will survive even longer, although you end up looking like someone coming from a concentration camp.”

According to the BBC, one doctor told the Vasterbotten Courier Skyllberg might have survived by going into “a kind of hibernation.”

Skyllberg has not spoken publicly about his ordeal. One of his neighbors described him to the Telegraph as a  “loner” who disappeared after a failed business attempt left him deeply in debt.

“He had got into a lot of debt, and he couldn’t pay his bills, and then he just disappeared,” Magnus Jernberg said. “It was a bit of a joke for us. We said ‘Oh, I think they just found Peter’. And then it was Peter.”

A pic will take care of skeptics, right? And a book deal? Whats it going to say “Oh i sat in a car for 2 months doing absolutely nothing but sleeping to conserve my energy” and he won’t have to worry about his apartment, he lost it 30 days after he didn’t pay the rent….

If you get trapped in the snow out in the wilderness it’s important to kill a deer or elk first. If you make a fire first it will scare away animals. So kill supper first then make a toasty fire. If you don’t have a lighter you can make scary sparks by placing a metal object across the battery posts.

The truth is coming out on this guy… I firmly believe that this guy is trying to scam the public:
“While it was not immediately clear why Skyllberg had been in his car since December, reports emerged Sunday that he suffered numerous personal setbacks recently and may have been trying to take his own life.
“He had a girlfriend but she ran out. And then he also had problems paying bills and the rent,” a source close to Skyllberg said, according to Aftonbladet newspaper.
Aftonbladet’s report, cited by The (London) Daily Telegraph, added that Skyllberg’s debts totaled 1.6 million Swedish Kronor (US$238,000), and a court in December ordered the seizure of his rental properties.

I firmly believe this guy figured that he could produce this scam in order to get a book deal and publicity to get his @sz out of the ringer….

Yea I know what I’ll do. I’ll commit suicide by slowly starving myself to death in a snow-covered car. GENIUS I tell you!

Every year, news stories like this come out. He’s not the first person to live trapped in a snow-covered car for months. He won’t be the last. Why is it so hard to believe?

For all you skeptics who don’t believe anyone can survive on snow alone, it’s been done before, and there’s a movie about it. “Hey, I’m Alive” is a true story about two chubby people who survived a 1963 plane crash in the Yukon, living in the crashed plane on melted snow for 49 days. They were in decent shape when rescued, but they never wanted to see each other again. Very interesting flick with Ed Asner and Sally Struthers.

A human being CANNOT live half that long with mere water alone AND survive in sub zero temps. You need food (fuel) to keep your body temp up.

Snow has a 10 to 1 ratio. Your body would have to use a lot of energy to convert the snow into water.

I’ve heard that eating snow lowers your body temp. You would want to melt the snow first. Then drink the water. That is the extent of my knowledge on this subject.

Saabs were the best cars in the winter BAR NONE. I live in the Northeast so would know. I owned a 5000 that would pass tractor trailors and other cars that were off the road… including SUVs. Too it was a lease and I traded it in after three years. My husband owned several 900s here and drove them into the ground. Basically bought his last when GM took them over. After that the Saabs went to hell in a handbasket. He is now driving a Mercedes.

That is what saved him, if he had tried to walk through deep snow, he would have gotten wet and extremely cold, and he would have used a lot of energy, possibly falling down in the snow at some point where he would have lied till he died. When there is a deep snow, trying walking even the length of a football field.

If he was on a death wish, maybe he still went for water out of an uncontrollable reflex, that is, he knew he would be without food, since he didn’t taken any with him, but the water was something that he couldn’t force himself to not take, even if he did sort of want to die. But for crying out loud, jump off a bridge already, who puts themself through a torturous suicide like that, freezing to death without food in a trapped car? Even jumping in a frozen lake would be quicker.

But that is true about deep snow, just try it for exercise sometime, see how far you can walk, acting like you have to go one mile to get rescued. Each step requires effort.
