Swedish Sports Car Reaches Whopping 250 MPH!

Last week, Germany’s Nurburgring Nordschleife — a 13-mile, curvy race track for the most elite vehicles — hosted a Gran Turismo event featuring all the big names in fast and fancy cars: Ferrari, Lamborigini, Porche. But one that really stood out was the Swedish Koenigsegg Agera R topping out at 250 MPH.

Business Insider reports that with its “notoriously twisty” nature on the course there isn’t often room for the vehicles to “stretch their legs” except a one mile stretch at the end. This is where the 1,000 horsepower Koenigsegg had a chance to shine.
Check it out (Note: skip to 1:25 to see the monstrous speed or watch through the whole thing to get a sense of the course):
According to the Gran Turismo blog post on the event, the owner of the car, Bård Eker from Norwa,y said before he had to slow the vehicle down on at a bridge and the tarmac was a bit bumping making it “quite exciting before the left turn.”

Gearing up to push the pedal to the metal.

Coming from another angle.

This is what zooming by at 250 MPH looks like.
More than 120 “super cars” made it out on the track and Gran Turismo reported Dennis Noten from the Netherlands as saying ”I have never, ever in my life seen so many nice cars in the same place. This is unbelievable.”

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 10:41amMost Southern States have 75 mph speed limits and don’t really enforce the limit much like in Germany. In big states like Texas, Arizona, etc. people need to go fast to get where they have to be. Its safe driving over a 100mph with anti-lock brakes, steel belted radials, seat belts, air bags, etc. The national speed limit should be 100 mph on interstates.

At the same time you are right about the only factory 340 and 440 6pac setups for Dodge and Plymouths, 1969 and a half, through 1971.

But yea, anyone can stuff a “6 barrel” on any engine with the right intake, but Mopar never made a 363-6 for sale to general public. And for 140 MPH streetlight to streetlight, unless you have 2:73 gears and the street light are 2 miles apart, that ain’t happening… I won’t tell you about cars I have and do own, don’t brag, and don’t want to embarrass you. Report Post »Matt
Posted on April 12, 2012 at 5:09amBro, A bugatti tops out at 268. This car is one of only a very few existing models that can even top 200.
It makes me laugh to see all of the horribly ignorant comments on this site. You people obviously know nothing about cars, so dont post about it. Some guy was happy an f250, souped up, could go 178. That is not more impressive than ANYTHING going 250 because the amount of extra horsepower required to go from 178 to 250 is more than the entire amount necessary to go from 0 to 178. You have to have more than DOUBLE the horsepower to weight ratio. PLUS once you are going that fast, one of your biggest issues is not your speed, but not having your car lift up off the roadway and flip backwards, killing you. The Veyron has special flaps that come out the side to make the air create downward pressure, keeping it on the track. I am willing to bet this car has that too.
And what impresses me the most about a non ford car? Even if a 250 can go 178, any other car will still have to be fixed less often. They might as well build Fords out of legos. Sure, modern ones are a bit better, but still not as sturdy as anything oriental.

I think Ford is kicking butt all over cars in that price range and beyond. I have a 03 Mustang Cobra making 500+ hp at the tires and it still roasts 98% of the cars I come up against. There is always someone faster but I bought it new in 02 and it is still going strong to this day with no problems! It cost $35K and another $2K in modifications. Great bargain for that hp level, imo.

And in 1989 the fastest production car in the world was the Ferrari F40 at 201mph and in 1991 it was the Bugatti EB110 GT at 209mph. And you can look at every year from 1949 to 2007 and you will find the fastest production car at any given time was European. in 2007 an American took it with the SSC Ultimate Aero TT at 256mph but lost it 3 years later by the German made Bugatti Veyron EB16.4 SS AT 267mph. Don’t get me wrong I love many American cars and would love to see us hold the record again, however European cars have setting the standard for some time.

Posted on April 11, 2012 at 10:43pm@ Youmuststand, Don’t get so cocky or high on your horse lest you want someone to push you off and down a peg or two. American cars have been going faster than 200 mph for more than a half century. What we haven’t been doing is building over-priced toys for the jet-setters, or at least if we do, they truly are a one off creation by artisans of the car craft and not some expensive volvo or fiat. Ever heard of a turbonique drag axle? They’ve been pushing cars to over 200 mph in just under a quarter of a mile for more than 50 years and they were American made. Of course, now we want more flame and some drama so they use old helicopter turbines or jet engines to accomplish nearly the same thing.

Posted on April 11, 2012 at 2:15pmThis car has always had the potential to go over 250mph, and some say it will go 270. I have seen it on BBC-America’s Top Gear (the only BBC show worth watching) at least twice. In it’s first appearance it actually went off course because of a lack of rear down force. It is the only time I have ever seen the Stig (their in-house “tamed” racing driver) put a car in the weeds. The second appearance was with a newly added rear wing and the difference was pretty obvious and impressive. This is a very respectable super-car, and expensive, brought to you by the same country that builds the SAAB Gripen fighter. Both of these Swedish products are pretty Bad A**. I’d still buy the Ford GT instead…200+ mph, All American and and the engine out of a Ford pick up truck….it’ll smoke a Ferrari and it can be serviced at a Ford dealership…and best of all, you can pick one up for less than $200K (yeah I know, but I can dream…right?) as opposed to $1.7M for the Konigsegg…maybe if I win the lottery…zzzzzzz, oh sorry, dreaming again.
