Swiss Minister’s Giggling Fit Becomes Online Hit

(AP) — Switzerland’s finance minister has sparked hilarity in the Alpine nation by collapsing into giggles while answering a parliamentary question about imports of cured meats.

The video showing Hans-Rudolf Merz convulsing with laughter at the unintelligible bureaucratic language in his script have created popular sympathy for the outgoing finance chief.

Merz was widely criticized in recent years for signing away much of Switzerland’s banking secrecy and failing to secure the release of two Swiss citizens held by Libya.

His speech has been viewed by more than 300,000 people on YouTube and other websites since Monday and prompted one maker of air-dried meats to advertise their wares with the slogan: “Never lose your sense of humor.”

I speak pretty good German, and can absolutely attest to the fact that this is unintelligible. Mostly because he’s giggling, but also because it is the densest load of bureaucratic horse manure that I have ever attempted to translate.

    Here is the correct translation:
“I can’t believe how stupid some Americans are! They actually think that Obama is doing a good job and that he really cares about the American people. Furthermore, those same ******** believe that they will win in the upcoming election in November. They are so blind that they can’t see that Obama and the Dems are trying to turn the USA into a Communist Nanny State like Switzerland and the rest of Europe. Wait, I should not be laughing, I should be crying, please turn off the camera now!”

Eliminating bank secrecy laws that have distinquished Swiss Banking for many years is NOT a laughing matter but is to those who don’t understand how important secrecy is in a wolrd where Big Govt is looking now at every transaction. Sure call me a person without a sense of humour

The odd thing is nothing was really funny about what he was reading:

    translation:
Referring to addition 6a in capter 2 of the KN (?), the customs administration has additionally published the so called Swiss explanations about the customs tariff.

According to that, certain products, that have spices added during the production, are added to chapter 2, if he character of a product of this chapter ist not changed (for example ‘Bündnerfleisch’). Meat, that has spices on the whole surface of the product and that is noticable with the eyes, is excluded by the chapter.

Yup, now that you mention it Red often cracked up when doing skits; he was a good man that never had a harsh word to say about anyone; I’m sure if Glenn Beck was up and running back then Red would have been one of his biggest fans.
