Sword-Wielding Teenager Stabs Great-Grandmother to Death After Being Told to Turn off Video Game

A common argument between family members and teenagers turned deadly Monday afternoon.
A 14-year-old boy is in custody after stabbing his 77-year-old great-grandmother to death with a sword, and allegedly cutting his grandmother, police say. Family members say the attacks started after relatives asked told him he would have to turn off his video game soon.
Police in Douglasville, Georgia responded to a call from the grandmother Monday evening that she made as she barricaded herself in her room to get away from her sword-wielding grandson. When deputies arrived, they said the boy was standing in the doorway with a “full-sized sword” and a pellet rifle.
‘He came out with a pellet gun and shot two windows out of a patrol car that was sitting there. He was shooting at us with the pellet gun and swinging the sword around in the air,’ said Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller. The local CBS affiliate reported that officers showed a lot of restraint by not shooting the boy and using an explosive device to distract him instead. Eventually, deputies had to taser the boy.
CBS takes a look into what the sheriff is calling one of the worst cases he has seen in his 40 years of law enforcement in this video.
Police said it was the third time in the last three months the teen had been arrested and they already confiscated another sword off him. . Each time deputies arrested the teen, they took him to the hospital for evaluations and doctors released him.

Posted on August 17, 2011 at 4:14amI don’t get it. If this story had been about a teenager shooting his grandmother, nobody (except the trolling libs) would be calling for the banning of guns. Nobody would be saying that it is the gun’s fault. No one is saying that it is the sword’s fault. So why are people talking like it is the fault of the video games? Come on. Don‘t blame the video games because people can’t be bothered to have any real family life.
Also, the saddest part of this story to me is that the kid still had access to a sword even AFTER he’d already shown he was willing to hurt people with it. To be fair, he probably would have hurt his grandmother and great grandmother with something eventually (be it a steak knife, a brick, or a heavy textbook), but it almost seems like they didn’t take his first sword attack seriously.
I collected edged weaponry growing up (still do, in fact) and if I had ever even scratched someone with them I can guarantee that my dad would not have let me keep so much as a pocket knife.

Posted on August 17, 2011 at 3:37amI always do my best to negate “religion” out of my posts. I’m a staunch Catholic, but I mostly use logic over my religious beliefs, unless the topic is about religion.
First of all, this teenager has grown up in the technology of his times. I’ve worked as a computer programer in the “olden days”, when all the computers were in “clean rooms”. The computers were huge, back in those times.
My little granddaughter, who is six, plays with mommy and daddy’s, I pad, all the time. She doesn’t know what I know about how computers work, and why should she?
She’s just proud that she reached the next level in the game. This is “Society” in today’s World. People used to actually talk to each other, face to face. Today, people text each other.
Anti-social people love this new World, where they don’t have to interact with another human being. Maybe the solution is to have Wi-Fi wipe out by an electronic pulse.

More importantly, what went wrong here??? Dig deep into this & take steps to prevent it from happening to others. We need to restore good order & discipline to society.

It is the corporate think tanks and research facilities that spend tens of millions of dollars developing and perfecting products and services that addict young folks to their use that is responsible. iPhones, iPads, xboxes, playstation, deranged video games that glorify shooting and murdering. Grow up and pull your head out. Video games did not do this, lack of discipline did this.
I’ve been playing violent video games since the days of DOS-based first person shooters – Wolfenstein 3D was my first haunt, and I still have the full version on my present PC. Add it up, that’s over two decades of violent video games, some more violent than others. Back in my young years, I spent whole school years grounded from video games, and not once did I stab or shoot someone over it. In fact, I have no criminal record whatsoever, juvenile or adult. Doesn’t exactly fit your scapegoat theories, does it?
Oh, to add more fuel to your fire, I have been a firearms collector since I was 20. Real firearms and violent video games don’t mix, right? There are no accidental shootings, no weapons mishandlings, no improper conduct whatsoever in my household. I have ready access to over a dozen loaded guns throughout the house in case of break-in or attack, and no person that comes into the house messes with them. Again, another incongruity with video game hater logic: by the numbers, I should have shot someone by now, and it has not happened. Where is your theory now?
Oops. Looks like your logic has a blue screen or two. I grow wearied of the whiners and apologists who blame video games for violent outbursts. Stop blaming the entertainment sector and blame the dumbarse that has no discipline. You are not fixing the problem with your stated logic fail.

#1 no one can properly keep all of God’s laws and commandments. The law’s purpose is to point to sin (Romans 3:20), we wouldn’t be human beings if we could perfectly obey ALL the commandments every single day. Only God can.
#2 we’re no longer under the old covenant that the Jews followed (Jeremiah 31:31-34) ,that‘s the reason why we don’t still have animal sacrifice, public stonings, ect, ect. Jesus, being the only perfect man, fulfilled the requirements of God and took our punishment for sin so that we could be reconciled to the Father.
#3 context, context, context. You’re list of verses make no sense…because you’re obviously a witless God hater.
Nice try.
As for this tragic story, in the last days the “…love of many would wax cold.” (Matthew 24:12)
“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28) Maranatha!
